Both are taken from the Silverdome screen.....The Who from December '75, and Bob Seger from '76. Past articles suggest that Peter Grant did not want to provide a screen for the '77 Silverdome show, but stadium management insisted.  They knew the venue, and they knew what people expected from seeing past shows.  So why do we have these and not Zeppelin ?  Because I personally believe the rumors that Grant & Co. barged in the control room and confiscated the tapes.  They were made to provide the visuals, and it makes perfect sense that Grant wouldn't want anyone else to have the film except the band itself.  They paid for it.   Remember....portions of that '75 Who show has appeared on an official release, both audio & video.  That's one reason I still hold out a bit of hope that it still exists.  I also remember specifically hearing more than once on the radio before the show that it was going to be officially recorded for a future live release.  This was also mentioned on the radio after the show, for the benefit of those that didn't or couldn't attend.  It just seems strange that we've seen Seattle, we've seen recordings from the two shows above, yet absolutely nothing from the Zeppelin Silverdome show.  To me, that leaves only two possibilities....it was destroyed and it no longer exists, or they still have it.  I'm going with it's still in their possession.  Why destroy tapes of anything when Jimmy claims to this day it was a good and unique performance ?

    Interesting stuff.

The Who footage is a lot brighter and better quality than Zep at Seattle, and there is superior camera angles with full-shots of the band, etc.

So if Pontiac has been recorded, it's a shame the tape was destroyed or is being horded by some rich quarterback 😉

Then I guess its a huge loss. Oh well....

    I agree.

my contribution to the urban myth camp is that I spoke to someone reputable, who is very close to the Showco camp, that claimed to have seen a 30minute pro shot rehearsal from the 77 tour at a private party.

Could be bull shit or true. Just like the rest.

  3. Why would Page only provide the Seattle footage - dark and average performance - to MTV for their 1990 special, and also for the Travelling Riverside Blues video, if better quality 77 footage existed.

Why would Dave Lewis never mention in any of his books seeing pro footage other than EC, Knebworth and Seattle at the SwanSong offices.

Likelihood is Page doesn’t have any more pro 77 footage.

Private collectors are another matter. This would mean the footage had escaped from the clutches of Grant during the tour or had been recorded when it had been forbidden by Grant and horded for all these years.

  4. Okay, so nearly half way through the anniversary year and so far we've had the announcement of a book and a hint of new music from Jimmy.

Checked Plant's tour itinerary and it's pretty constant but he has no gigs listed between Aug 2 and middle of September 14:

    Tipsport Arena
    PARDUBICE, CZECHIA
    Aug 1, 2018
    Junge Garde
    DRESDEN, GERMANY
    Sep 15, 2018
    Telluride Blues & Brews Festival

So is this when we might see some activity? Is this why Plant's left it free or just coincidence?

Jason and I edited through several hours of his 8mm home movies, selecting clips for use on the JBLZE tour.

The wedding jam was recorded but wasn't relevant for this purpose, since rare footage of his father was the main objective for the video screen.

Always been fascinated with this wedding jam.

Sam, how would you rate or describe the "performance"? I take it everyone was pretty sloshed but was there any moments of magic and was Jimmy in good form in it?

Do you think it is something that Jason might put out there one day for the fans?

Maybe at a Zep convention or such like?

Okay, so this is not Led Zeppelin related, but I just received 7 shirts that I bought on eBay, all shirts with "Breaking Bad" And "Heisenberg" Logos. "Br Ba".  I also purchased 5 Sopranos shirts that I will receive in the next few days.  On top of all that, I just ordered 7 different  "Game of Thrones" Shirts (all on E-bay).

All said and done, I have bought over 135 shirts of all of My  favorite shows/groups/etc...

How great is that?  Money to buy what I Want to display in Public

    LED ZEPPELIN

    RUSH

    Dio

    Iron Maiden

    Judas Priest

    Breaking Bad

    The Sopranos

    GAME of THRONES...

Were the Mary Tyler Moore ones sold out?

  7. We all wish the news reports were about Page releasing a monster Zep live box set or, heaven forbid, soe new music.

Instead it’s about a planning squabble with the fat dancer from Take That.

    What a load of guff.

Coming up on the 30th anniversary of Outrider released June 19,1988. Unless you had a cassette player and were attentive listening to the radio and recording Outrider specials/songs when aired, you would have to wait for the album to hit record store shelves, no youtube instant play back then. Still would absolutely love an expanded box set with a show from the tour.

I remember reading about Page being crestfallen when the original demos for Outrider were stolen from his home and it was originally intended to be a double album.

Were these demos ever recovered or did they ever surface on bootleg?

These demos could make an interesting Alt Outrider as part of any anniversary boxset.

I think demand for an Outrider re-release would be minimal however, and it would have to be a Page website only job, like DW 2.

I've listened to both of his last two albums a lot more than a couple of times.

Your comment about Plant as a songwriter is purely subjective, in terms of melody, I think he's as good as any singer out there.

    Good for you.

Couldn't give a monkey's tadger what you think or do.

Ever since I posted a link to an article about Page in The Sun - which sent you into a political sanctimonious frenzy - you have disagreed with every single thing I have posted.

It's very sad and petty that you're still holding a grudge.

And even sadder that you introduced politics into the Zep forum in the first place.

I can see the direction of this thread turning on just crapping on anything.

Someone wants to pay why not ?  You may think it's some crap cardboard for $40 but I see a beautiful addition to a Zeppelin shrine.  I'm very certain there are tons of Zeppelin fans who would love to have that and especially put the Record Store Day Record in it and add it to their shrine.

I think it’s a case of fans don’t want to see people paying over the odds for items, rather than them being negative about collecting.

I'd agree with this haha. I don't think Carry Fire is really all that great. The reality is that if it wasn't created partially by Robert I'd probably have a harsher critique. I actually like their previous album a lot better.

There's something about signed pick guards I really dislike. Unless it's on a guitar I'd never plan on using, one that is only for show.

His last couple of albums are the sort of fair that gets rave reviews from papers like The Observer and The Guardian, but how many people actually listen to it more than a couple of times after they’ve bought it?

Talking to non-Zep heads, the Plant album they rate the most is Raising Sand.

And I don’t think it’s any coincidence that Plant wasn’t the boss in that one and he had to relinquish a lot of control to T-Bone Burnett, and to a lesser extent Alison K.

plants not a great songwriter from scratch, and is at his best adding lyrics to a basic structure or contributing to a work in progress.

I made a post a while back (which, of course angered some for being too presumptuous) about how I thought John might have had a touch of Bi-polar depression, judging by his expression and mood in a lot of his photos. Then combine that with his drinking and rowdiness backstage and it kind of adds up. He always struck me as someone who probably had a great appreciation for percussion and being a drummer, but realized that what he was doing had turned into a circus act.

Then there's the other side where he strolls out on the stage with an acoustic guitar or Jones' bass strapped on just to get laugh. I don't think it would be too uncommon for musicians, especially in over-glorified rock bands, to quickly become jaded and see the whole thing as a charade. Bonham strikes me as that type.

    You could possibly be right.

Def a complex character - seems to be a mix of deep insecurity, machismo and kindness.

  13. That was a good read, cheers for posting.

I didn’t know that he was still hammering the sauce into the late 90s, I thought he had cleaned up by then.

Also interesting that he was in an emotional trough after the O2 gig.

Shows how much hope he had for a full reunion.

glad he’s in a better place now. He’s a great drummer and has nothing to prove anymore.

I agree. That's probably exactly why LZ didn't work more on it. Had they not dissolved the band they might've eventually turned it into something great.

Bonzo’s drumming is just one of the highlights of this work in progress. I think Swang Song is infinetly more interesting than alt mixes that have slightly more cowbell and are virtually identical to the original.

When are we getting the third alt mix of rock ‘n’ roll. I mean, come on, we’ve dug a hole in the bottom of the barrel and are now dunking for turds.

Do we have any sort of indication as to when an announcement will be made on what we can expect to be released for the anniversary?

    Not yet, mate.

Even in this social media age, Zeppelin still manage to keep things very shtoom.

All we have is titbits about a live album in interviews and some speculation.

September is when it's rumoured it will kick off in earnest.

Personally, I think any release will be in the Xmas run-in to maximise profit.

Wow, they were considering getting the Firm back together.

He seems like a really nice gentle soul.

I thought he’d be a bit of a bovver boy with the bald head and drumming style. Ha ha.

Would have been interesting to hear a new Firm album, sans Boss chorus pedal and fretless bass.

If you take the photos in the SDBS and the LZ photos from the JP book then surely you have enough photos without this new book?

im struggling to see what is to be gained by more photos?

perhaps it’s because I’ve not see how it’s going to be done....

It's a lazy way of the band making money without much effort.

A proper ghost written biography would require them committing to several days of interviews and carefully reviewing 300-odd pages of text.

In comparison this is minimal effort for maximum gain.

They also don't have to go into the nitty gritty of who did what and all that uncomfortable stuff.

I am confident we have multiple live official releases in store over the course of a few years. He cares too greatly about Led Zeppelin for it not to be the case.

Any release has to be approved by jones and plant as well, and plant is picky about his vocals.

Staggering live releases over a decade is selfish and designed to maximise income. They’re not short of cash. Do a dogs bolloks release of all existing multtitracks, and an official bootleg series of all soundboards in a year. But it will never happen.

Plenty to be excited about. Page said new live release and that it won't be the last.

File under I plan to be playing live next year.

Page has said lots of stuff over the last 17 years that have been complete bunkum.

How odd that only Jimmy is quasi-celebrrating the 50th Zep anniversary.. I myself find it strange to even call this "anniversary" anything at all, as Jimmy, Robert and John Paul are practically living in different universes now, and

for a long time now. Also mondo bizarro IMHO is that how much more enjoyment are you going to get from gigs/ boots

from this endless technological crunching ?? I mean I guess even the Bath Show could be salvaged by second to second

scrubbing away and then triple re-eq'ing, whatever that means.

I think Robert does want to celebrate it, but gets frustrated when he gets interviewed to promote his solo gigs and gets asked more about Zep and the 50th anniversary.

As for Jones, I think he generally likes to stay under the radar and the media wouldn’t seek him out for comment as he’s less recognisable. That’s pretty much been his modus operandi since 1980.
