I am hoping a soundboard recording exists for Atlanta.

That would be sweet. I have always wondered how many soundboards Page has that hasn't made its way to the people.

More like trying to do their best version of Van Halen-Kiss-Aerosmith. Hair-metal had nothing to do with Led Zeppelin, no matter what revisionists try to tell you.

    Point taken

  3. Warren Demartini is a very underrated guitarist, imho. There was a lot of great hard rock musicians in the 1980's that unfortunately were part of the glam thing. All of those bands, musically anyway, were just trying to do their best version of Zeppelin.

I am an Atlanta guy and so maybe I am just a little biased.

I wish I could say that I saw this show but I was the ripe old age of 9 the last time Led Zeppelin graced my city.  When I would go to other concerts at the Omni I never forgot that Led Zeppelin played there and I always wished I had a time machine to go back in.

    The Atlanta 1977 show:

Excellent show but, for the most part, horrible recording.  People complain about some of the problems of the 1977 tour but I am going to brag here and say that Led Zeppelin were at the top of their game, and maybe the top of this tour, on Saturday night Apr. 23, 1977, in Atlanta.

I wish the recording were better.  If this recording could be cleaned up I think this would be one of the greatest recordings of the 1977 tour.

Something that I don't understand, though, is that parts of the recording seem to be pretty decent.  The guy making the recording had to be messing with the tape somehow.

The closing with Trampled Under Foot was awesome.  That may well be the best live version of Trampled Under Foot ever recorded if not ever done.

I know a guy that is now 64 that was at this show and he tells his grandkids hot great it was!  Oh to go back in time and see this show...!!

I was 3. So I can appreciate what you are saying. I listened to that show recently. It didn't sound as bad as it could. The 77 tour killed all the way around in my opinion. I have been searching all over the place for an Atlanta '77 tour poster.

Tend to agree, Burn is DP's best album and Blackmore's playing was at it's best in this period.  MK II is obviously legendary, but the MK IV lineup with Tommy Bolin is unfortunately neglected.

Tommy Bolin is one of my Top 5 favorite guitar players. 'Come Taste the Band" has stood the test of time, imho. I was furious that the Rock Hall shunned him when DP was finally inducted.

I never quite understood why he was allowed to share live vocal duties with Coverdale in DP.  Some of his commentary to the audience between songs is really asinine as well.  That said, his musical legacy is very impressive.

From what I have read, I think Glenn thought that he would play bass and sing as well. DC was an unknown working in a clothing store when DP advertised for a replacement for Gillan. I am a bit partial. I have always been more of a MK III and MK IV man myself.

  7. I bought them and to be honest, primarily for the bonus discs. I dig them, but I would like some type of live box that covers the span of their career. I have boots and whatnot, but look at what he did with the Forum shows for HTWWW. He could do the same thing in the studio with audio from any of the tours and release them. I would buy them just to have a somewhat cleaner sound.

My only complaint, though not a big one, is I wish they had a somewhat fluid setlist at live shows, 60% set and 40% change from night to night. I know most bands don't and play the same set night after night but...just a thought, and a moot one at that.

I fully agree. I wish the sets would have changed up more. Maybe play some more obscure cuts...
