  1. Wasn't sure where to put this but Paul Martinez is listed on wiki as having passed away yesterday. As a quick Google does not reveal any other sources confirming this, I shall take with a pinch of salt, but has anyone heard anything through the grapevine?

An American musician of the same name died last month and I wondered if someone updating wiki had got the wrong end of the stick.

Has there ever been any proof or confirmation of anyone "trying out?"  As far as I know it's been just rumors.

Peter Grant was quoted as saying people left messages on his answer phone as soon as the announcement was made. And that "certain people really went down in my estimation". Afaik, there were never any try outs, and I've never heard Plant Page or JPJ mention otherwise.

I thought it was great. What surprised  me the most was that last bit he put together using a drum piece Bonham never used . I was expecting something cringey  but man he added a riff to the beat  and it was quite freakin good.

Is this the thing that's appeared on You Tube as "Bonzo's Bhangra"?

    Mr. Jones,

In Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann's  book "Deal", he repeats the well known story that the two bands met at Herb Green's studio on 14, January of 1969.  The book adds a detail I'd never heard, that Grateful Dead front man Pig Pen pulled out a gun and "accidentally" fired it into the ceiling!  The Dead are well known for their love of guns and were often photographed with them, California being an "open carry" state at that time.  Is there any confirmation of this story from the Led Zeppelin camp?

In the official Zeppelin book, JPJ says he recalls Pigpen having a gun at that photo session. Nothing about him firing it though.

No he definitely isn't in the video and I've searched for a while trying to confirm it but haven't been able to do as yet. I can just recall spotting him on some tv news reports at the time, he didn't appear alot and was always in the background. I guessed that as Phil Collins had recorded with him then that is how he may have been involved.

I will keep trying to find some confirmation of this, unless it was my memory playing tricks on me and I'm thinking of something else.

Given what a huge star Robert was in 1985, it'd be odd if he hadn't been involved.

  6. Hey Steve, be interested if you could shed any light on this.

Years ago I commented on a thread on a Detective video on YouTube. Someone else responded last week claiming to be the bass player from Detective and that they had sorted out contractual probs with Swan Song on January 1st this year.

So is Swan Song still a legal entity?! I'd assumed it had been wound up years ago.

His exact words are as follows

Jon Hyde and I are opening a new version of Detective. We, Detective, were given our full rights by Swan Song on Jan 1st. This year.
