I was lucky enough to see them on the 4th August 1979 and every year since I have had a little celebration on that date and I was even luckier to see them on the 10th December 2007 and for 10 years I have had a celebration on that day as well. Great memories both.

Be interesting to know why this project has always been confined to gigs the US and a few in Canada ? It would certainly be popular in the UK and Europe. I wonder if there is some agreement that Jason will only do this venture in N.America?

I can provide a bit more info on the General Wolfe gig as I was there. I lived just around the corner from the pub in those days in my family home. I don't know the exact date but it was definitely either April or May 81 on the first Honeydrippers tour. There are 2 pictures from this gig in Dave Lewis's Tight But Loose Files book. In fact in one of them you can see the back of my head! He only ever played there this one time. It was a slightly surreal experience for me to be seeing Robert play in my local in front of less than 200 people as the last time I had seen him had been on August 4th 1979 in front of a slightly larger crowd. In those days The Wolfe was Coventry's major live music pub and over the years hosted many big names including U2, The Eurythmics, Bo Diddley and of course The Specials (they used to rehearse there regularly as well) The iconic place finally lost it's battle to be a pub last year and is now Mushtaqs sweet centre and cafe.

Locarno Ballroom Coventry. The Locarno was a legendary venue in my home city. The 1971 gig was famously interupted by a bomb scare and a PA failure. The story goes that Robert refused to leave the stage during the bomb scare. The gig was also attended by members of Fairport Convention. During the 1960s the resident DJ was a certain Pete Waterman who went on to become a third of the Stock, Aitkin & Waterman producing team in the 80s. The Locarno played host to just about everybody in it's day. Another little known fact about this place is that Chuck Berry's live single My Ding-a-Ling was also recorded here in about 1972 I believe. In the mid 70s it changed it's name to Tiffany's and throughout the late 70s and early 80s hosted many well known bands of that era including The Clash, The Stranglers, AC/DC, Blondie, UB40 and our local heros The Specials and The Selector. The Glass entrance Atrium that can be seen in the old photograph is long gone but the main part of the venue still exists and is now home to Coventry's Central Library.

A big one today of course! August 4th 1979. 32 years since Knebworth. I was lucky enough to be there and over the years it has become an aniversary that I always remember and celebrate in some small way. As someone else mentions over on the TBL website 'It was our Woodstock 69 our Isle of Wight 70' I would agree and as the years go by I increasingly feel the same way. The importance of that concert does not diminish as time goes on.

Yes it was 31 years ago today that I was fortunate enough (along with a few other people) to witness a bit of history in a field in Hertfordshire. Time passes but the memories are always there!

I seem to remember reading somewhere that The Senators once had a residency for a short while at a pub in Coventry. Can anyone throw any light on this?
