I believe that they have always been good friends, but someone once told me that part of the reason that they ended(not just because of Bonzo) was that Page had always wanted Zeppelin to be mainly about the guitar,but Plant wanted it to be about the vocals. I think that the contrast between guitar and vocals is a huge part of what makes them so awesome
