  1. Hi. I'm new here but I wanted to join so I could share something. Am I allowed to share links for downloading it from my cloud storage or do I only offer them if people PM me? Long post - deep breath! Been working on it since the summer when it started to become apparent that Jimmy Page was not going to deliver the 50th Anniversary Live boxed set that we all hoped for. Well, if he wasn't going to do it, then I was certainly going to give it my best shot! My starting point was that for 1969-1973, we have near-complete live shows for each year: Paris Olympia from 1969 Royal Albert Hall from 1970 BBC Paris Theatre from 1971 How The West Was Won from 1972 Madison Square Garden from 1973 As the years 1975-1980 are only represented by the DVD's highlights from Earls Court '75 and Knebworth '79, I decided to concentrate purely on these years. Unfortunately, as much as I love Led Zep (they have been my favourite band for years) we all know that during the second half of their career their performances were sometimes inconsistent. Plant had vocal issues, Page had certain other issues and even Bonham could have a dodgy night. I knew that if I was to construct a live album for each of these years that was anywhere near definitive or near the standard required for an official release, it was going to involve a lot of editing. Plant's vocal squeaks and cracks needed sorting, Page's flubs needed to be addressed and a few band timing issues needed smoothing out. If I was to make an edit within a song and use a better performance from another night then I also wanted to match the EQ, reverb and stereo separation. Some soundboards varied so much in these areas! What I've ended up with is a 2cd or 3cd soundboard compilation from 1973, America and Earls Court 1975, America 1977, Knebworth 1979 and Europe 1980 to approximate a complete show from each of these tours/shows. I've also done the same for L.A. 1977, trying to use only Mike Millard's recordings wherever possible. I know they are audience recordings but they are so good and so legendary that even Page saw fit to use one for a menu on the official DVD set. I've sprinkled a few extras here and there just for kicks. As a bonus I've created an alternative version of The Song Remains The Same soundtrack. This one comes from my frustration at what we were officially given for the 50th Anniversary. The flawed 2007 version of The Song Remains The Same was reissued, despite Page having the opportunity to finally give the soundtrack the treatment it deserved - for example, by using the superior 1976 album versions of some of the songs and ditching the film versions with their awkward edits that sometimes even added or took away beats of the bar. A complete Black Dog would also have been nice! This is the version I wish had been issued. Many thanks to The Garden Tapes website which provided invaluable help. I've included a compilation (entitled 1973-1980) of songs which were some of my favourite performances but which didn't meet the standard I was looking for in terms of a near-perfect performance or sound quality. This compilation consists of 6 cds of honourable mentions, mostly soundboards but with a few top quality audience recordings that compete in terms of performance. Oh, and Volume 10 consists of 3 DVDs: the 1st is my version of what an official Earls Court compilation could look like, the 2nd my presentation of the Seattle gig with better sound + some extras and the 3rd is my version of what an official Knebworth compilation could look like. Note: If the edit I've made is just for a beat or two, or for a couple of seconds then I have not listed which show it has come from (there are many!) but if it is a large section of the song then I have detailed the source. Apologies for the few fixed tracks. Hope it's pretty self-explanatory for which track replaces which track. Finally, muchas gracias to the YouTuber Led Zeppelin Boots and the remaster wizard Liriodendron. I used a lot of their ideas in compiling the setlists and the 1977 sets and 1973 set especially contain a lot of their work. Here is a tracklisting for the set: Volume 1: 1973 CD1 01-Rock And Roll (Fort Worth 19-5-73) 02-Celebration Day (Fort Worth 19-5-73) 03-Black Dog (Fort Worth 19-5-73) 04-Over The Hills And Far Away (Fort Worth 19-5-73) 05-Georgia On My Mind (Salt Lake City 26-5-73) 06-Misty Mountain Hop (Salt Lake City 26-5-73) 07-Since I've Been Loving You (Mobile 13-5-73) 08-No Quarter (Seattle 17-7-73) 09-Dancing Days (Southampton 22-1-73) 10-Bron-Y-Aur Stomp (Stoke 15-1-73) CD2 01-The Song Remains The Same (Seattle 17-7-73) 02-The Rain Song (Seattle 17-7-73) 03-Dazed And Confused (Seattle 17-7-73) 04-Stairway To Heaven (L.A. 31-5-73) CD3 01-Moby Dick (Mobile 13-5-73) 02-Heartbreaker (Detroit 13-7-73) 03-Whole Lotta Love (Detroit 13-7-73) 04-The Ocean (San Francisco 2-6-73) 05-Communication Breakdown (Denver 25-5-73) 06-Organ Solo - there is no complete video of this song from the 24th). Audio sources: 24th - audience matrix audio (thanks rickm1964) for Rock And Roll/Sick Again because it took a few songs for Plant's voice to warm up on both nights as per the norm. The audio for the rest of the show is largely untouched except for a few vocal flubs here and there. 25th - King Jimmy and the West Bromwich Blues Band (Bluecongo audio matrix) synced to video. Video sources: 24th - In The Court Of King James (EV) up to Bron-Y Aur Stomp. This has a noticable improvment in picture quality, particularly for Tangerine. - Heavy Metal Kids (EV) from Trampled Underfoot to the end as there are no audio drop outs, and not much improvement in picture quality from King James, which has audio drop outs on its 2nd disc. - Return Of The Kings (WOW) for a tiny portion of That's The Way to make it as complete as possible. 25th - Demand Unprecedented In The History Of Rock Music (EV) DVD2 - Seattle 1977, Europe 1980 + Promos Seattle 1977 01-The Song Remains The Same (soundboard/audience audio matrix) 02-Sick Again (soundboard/audience audio matrix) 03-Nobody's Fault But Mine 04-Ten Years Gone 05-The Battle Of Evermore 06-Going To California 07-Black Country Woman 08-Bon-Y-Aur Stomp 09-White Summer-Black Mountain Side (soundboard/audience audio matrix) 10-Kashmir (soundboard/audience audio matrix) 11-Over The Top (soundboard/audience audio matrix) 12-Guitar Solo (soundboard/audience audio matrix) 13-Achilles Last Stand (soundboard/audience audio matrix) 14-Stairway To Heaven (soundboard/audience audio matrix) 15-Whole Lotta Love (soundboard/audience audio matrix) 16-Rock And Roll (soundboard/audience audio matrix) Europe 1980 01-Rotterdam 8mm with soundboard audio 02-Zurich 8mm with soundboard audio 03-Munich 8mm with audience audio Promos 01-No Quarter (complete version, MSG 1973) 02-Over The Hills And Far Away (L.A. 1975) 03-The Song Remains The Same - Sick Again (MSG 1977) 04-Sick Again (promo, L.A. 1977) 05-Achilles Last Stand (promo, L.A. 1977) 06-Whole Lotta Love - Rock And Roll (MSG 1977) 07-Ten Years Gone (VH1 promo, Knebworth 1979) 08-Hot Dog (promo, Knebworth 1979) 09-Kashmir (MTV promo, Knebworth 1979 - not the same as the 2003 DVD Knebowrth version of Kashmir!) NOTES + SOURCES: This disc requires quite a bit of explanation. I believe that Seattle 77's negative reputation comes from a) the dry video feed audio that is extremely unsympathetic to Plant's voice and Page's guitar and b) the fact that Over The Hills, Since I've Been Loving You and No Quarter are very underpar performances early on in the show. The rest of the concert, I think, is in some places spectacular. The acoustic set was always very enjoyable; even with the dry audio mix, Bonham's drumming is awesome throughout (is there a better Over The Top?) and Page performs one of his finest Stairway solos. All that is even more apparent with this audio matrix mix. Thank you to Sue Dounim for that wonderful piece of painstaking work. Audio sources: The Song Remains The Same-Sick Again - Sue Dounim audience/soundboard matrix synced with Video by Randy Butternubs II Nobody's Fault But Mine-Bron-Y-Aur Stomp - The Year Of The Dragon (EV) White Summer-Kashmir - audience/soundboard matrix (thanks, Randy B!) Over The Top to end - Sue Dounim audience/soundboard matrix synced with Video by Randy Butternubs II Video source: The Year Of The Dragon (EV) The Europe 1980 section comes from the fact that this is the only year in the box set for which there is no pro video. However, sounboards are in abundance. These 3 pieces of 8mm film represent the best of the 1980 footage and are from LedZeppelin.com. Munich is particularly enjoyable with Plant in fine voice. The Promos section consists of a) all the bits of broadcast film I could find that were used as official promos for songs on VH1 and MTV in the 80s and 90s which did not turn up on the 2003 DVD set, b) all the complete songs synced together from 8mm footage and bootleg recordings also found on Led Zeppelin.com and c) a wonderful fan-made edit (thank you, Rainson Zeppelin - yours is the superior version) of No Quarter that combines the superior Soundtrack album version with the film version and film footage in a very satisfying way! I felt I just had to include it as I probably enjoy watching it more than almost any other Led Zeppelin performance. This is the one! DVD3 - Knebworth 1979 No chapters (caused sync issues - feel free to amend!) 01-The Song Remains The Same 02-Celebration Day 03-Black Dog 04-Nobody's Fault But Mine 05-Over The Hills And Far Away 06-Misty Mountain Hop 07-Since I've Been Loving You 08-No Quarter 09-Ten Years Gone 10-Hot Dog 11-The Rain Song 12-White Summer-Black Mountain Side 13-Kashmir 14-Trampled Underfoot 15-Sick Again 16-Achilles Last Stand 17-Guitar Solo 18-In The Evening 19-Stairway To Heaven 20-Rock And Roll 21-Whole Lotta Love 22-Communication Breakdown 23-You'll Never Walk Alone 24-Heartbreaker Once again, like the Earls Court DVD, I have avoided using any performances that are on the official 2003 DVD (apart from an un-messed-with-in-a-studio version of Achilles from the 1st night - they completely messed it up on the 2nd night, hence that was unusable). Sources are: Knebworth 4-8-79 - Knebworth Masters (30th Anniversary Edition) - this uses the Winston soundboard/audience matrix for audio Knebworth 11-8-79 - Return Of The Dinosaurs (Genuine Masters) Both of these sources are still considered to be best by most fans. Once you have all 10 volumes (30 discs in total), I truly believe that you have all you need from 1973-1980 as a regular Zep fan. If this was released in a similar fashion to the Pink Floyd Early Years boxed set, it could be presented as the final word on this period of their live career. Or that was the idea, anyway! They barely made a false move from 1968-1972. Almost every concert is a winner. You should have them all as you lot probably know! It is definitely harder navigating through 1973-1980 and this 30 disc box set came from a desire of mine that all began when I heard my first Zep boots back in 1993: BBC '71, Destroyer '77 and Zurich '80. I hope it helps new fans wade through the tapes and provides old fans with a solution to the problem of there being no official 50th anniversary live box set from Jimmy Page. Enjoy!
  2. A couple of months ago I started to pull out the MSG 1973 tabs by ear and they really fit me, if you want any of them to send an email 😊 hugofissh@gmail.com
