Black Dawg
I don't know which movie you base your opinion on, but what you write there is absolute kaka! We do have welfare programs here in the Netherlands, in case you might lose your job.....and it is getting more and more difficult to get that welfare, lots of paper work. Also once you get welfare here, you have to try to find a job a.s.a.p.else you will get less and less money. As far to drugs: it is still illegal to have more than 5 grams of softdrugs, it is also illegal to transport drugs, harddrugs are completely bad stuff to have. It is illegal to grow more than 3 plants. And as far as beeing subsidized as beeing a pot smoker: bollocks......most smokers I know, including myself do work. With sober regards from the Netherlands (yes, I am not always high) (and also yes....the Netherlands are not Holland, Holland is just one province in the Netherlands) Reswati. Thanks for clearing that up.. I appreciate it when people have good inf to offer. I was always curious to why they called The Netherlands Holland. We have a neighborhood in my home town that is pronounce Hollandtown but it is spelled Highlandtown. Maybe we could pronounce Hollywood as Highlywood, if this legalization ever passes. wanna be drummer
Holland and Canada have massive cradle to grave welfare programs so the pot smokers are being subsidized by those who work for a living. You'll never see it legalized in the United States because Big Business can't/won't tolerate the work force being lawfully permitted to get high. Its none of their business if I smoke before I go to bed.
Reggie29
People will smoke and drink regardless of whether it's legal or not. Why do you think prohibition was repealed? Because too many people were indulging to successfully eradicate it. Moonshine and other illicit alcohol products were on the incline and there were deaths and people losing their sight hence the phrase "blind drunk". Legalisation may not happen but decriminalisng it is the way to go. It is ludicrous that smokers get charged with possession of small amounts and prosecuted the same as those committing theft or violent crimes and getting a criminal record. And yes there are other by-products like textiles and fuel to be gleaned from crops. All that bullshit about "welfare" recipients being a drain on economies is just that, bullshit. I know plenty of professional people (myself included) who smoke pot on their own time but most definitely not in the workplace. This is for my mate Reswati. What's the difference between a length of pipe and a crazy Dutchman? One is a hollow cylinder and the other is a silly Hollander! trm989
In theory it sounds nice, but the biggest reason I believe it remains to be illegal is not because of stereotypes, but because it threatens the plastics, paper, and various chemical corporations. A lot of companies banded together to prevent the heavy competition from hemp growers.
trm989
With the economy showing no signs of recovery is it time to legalize marijuana? The state of California makes over 10 million dollars a year from medicinal dispenseries. Imagine the money that could be made countrywide if it was legalized. We're talking hundreds of millions of dollars generated by sales that would be taxed, not to mention all the jobs created for farmers and people to run the shops. I always thought one of the biggest reasons for the "war on drugs" (which has been a miserable failure) was that the government wasn't getting their piece of the pie. Instead they want you to take their drugs. The kind that killed Michael Jackson. It's not a war on drugs, it's a war on personal freedom. Look at Amsterdam and Vancouver. They don't seem to have a problem. When's the last time you picked up a newspaper and read, "Man smokes weed and goes on massive killing spree"? The answer is never. I think it's time. The number of annual deaths caused by marijuana=0. Legalize. Regulate. Educate. True, but TONS... and I mean TONS of power plants would crumble and you'd be back to square one all over again. reswati
Hi Reswati, You were better off under the Germans mate, i mean Deutschlanders, sorry i mean the Bosch or is it the Allemagneians? Tried that, was even born among the Krauts, but I would be more like Klaus Meine if I still lived there. I prefer smoking pot instead of smoking Sauerkraut with Knödels. (And I can't stand woman moaning "Jawohl fick mich hart im Arsch du geiles Luder" while making love to them......German B-porn-lingo is possibly the worst turn-off on the planet, haha) I'll have a beer on you (though I personally prefer Brand, though Grolsch ain't bad either)
Bong-Man
10 years ago I would have said yes. Now I think differently. The gov't will never supply any weed as good as I get right now, nor for as cheap If you are going to sit home and use it properly than yes by all means. Oh I always use it properly ! There was another thread about this exact same subject just a few weeks ago: Should Marijuana Be Legalized? Sir....I think it's time you came to the realization that this board as a whole has the attention span of gnat.

Bong-Man
Yeah tell that to the people who've been caught... A simple misdemeanor for under an ounce in Michigan.....and just because I don't want it legalized, doesn't mean it shouldn't be decriminalized. Damn right to the second part. But to address the first half of your statement, I'm just going to say that its a major understatement. I smoke and I too have a job. You just have to keep them seperate. I would love to visit the netherlands some day, not just for obvious reasons but my great grandparents are from there and it would be nice to visit the "homeland". I'm also curious about the potency of the pot there because in Colorado medicinal grade stuff is expensive and sometimes not as good. Nathan
Police Delve Into Mind-Set of Drunken Woman Whose Crash Killed Eight Investigators revealed Tuesday that she had been drunk and high on marijuana as she drove a minivan 1.7 miles in the wrong direction on the Taconic State Parkway in Westchester County. Key word right there. Sure, she had been smoking pot, but she was also DRUNK. Once you throw alcohol into the picture, things change. If she had just been high, you'd have a point. But she was also drunk.
cryingbluerain
Sure, she had been smoking pot, but she was also DRUNK. Yes, her faculties were impaired due to pot and booze combined. So now she, her 2-year-old daughter, her three nieces, and three men are dead.
Nathan
Yes, her faculties were impaired due to pot and booze combined. So now she, her 2-year-old daughter, her three nieces, and three men are dead. Okay. Great. So pot and booze were combined. Who said combining drugs was a good idea? the very fact that booze was involved negates the point you're trying to make, though. This one can't be pinned on marijuana, quite simply because alcohol was involved. As such, it's a combination of drugs, which is something the study wasn't considering. Marijuana, by itself, combined with no other drugs, has ever killed a single person in its recorded history.
cryingbluerain
Okay. Great. So pot and booze were combined. Who said combining drugs was a good idea? Nobody, but that's what you will probably get more of with legalizing weed. the very fact that booze was involved negates the point you're trying to make, though. This one can't be pinned on marijuana, quite simply because alcohol was involved. As such, it's a combination of drugs, which is something the study wasn't considering. I wasn't trying to pin it just on pot, but the combination of pot and booze. Marijuana, by itself, combined with no other drugs, has ever killed a single person in its recorded history. It wasn't marijuana by itself that killed them. It was an auto accident caused by pot and booze.
Reggie29
Nobody, but that's what you will probably get more of with legalizing weed. I wasn't trying to pin it just on pot, but the combination of pot and booze. It wasn't marijuana by itself that killed them. It was an auto accident caused by pot and booze. The accident was caused by the driver being on the wrong side of the road. How she got there is another matter. What about the others in the car how could she have diven so far without someone alerting her? What was the composition, 50/50 alcohol / pot, 60/40, 70/30, 80/20 etc.? Was it more drugs than alcohol or the other way round? Until those facts are made clear it is all supposition and speculation. The best thing to do whether you're smoking pot or drinking booze, don't drive and eliminate the risk altogether. Do they have drug testing incorporated with alcolysers where you are? We have, for about a year now. There are people who don't drink and smoke pot and visa versa and people who don't do either and some that do both. Many fatal accidents around the world occur where there are neither alcohol or drugs involved, they are the ones not considered newsworthy. Fatigue is a major cause of accidents too. zosodude13
I think the final, whole point is it's stupid to be impaired/under the influence when you're driving. Stories like these are why pot for recreational use will not be legal. However, medicinal marijuana I think will be more and more common, on a state-by-state level.
