I'd never heard of "Petey" Greene so this movie was largely an educational experience for me and an enjoyable one at that. However, it seemed to lose steam around the time of Petey's Tonight Show appearance, probably because he did as well. After that it just never seemed to regain any sort of momentum.

I've had this DVD for over a year, maybe longer, and never took the time to watch it.

I bought it at a Blockbuster that was closing down.

Watched it last night, and it was very good.

Had some incredible disaster scenes that were very grisly and slightly disturbing.

Overall a definite "would watch again."

I'm on the go today so no time for indepth post, but if you're looking for a great, adult movie to see this weekend, you can't go wrong with "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy"!

I saw "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" last night and it is a crackerjack of a film. Don't be put off by those who say it is confusing...only those who have never read an honest book or are half-wits would have trouble following the plot.

Gary Oldman, John Hurt, Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Tom Hardy...anybody that knows their movies should be salivating at the thought of seeing all these actors in the same film.

GO SEE IT! A perfect film to take your honey out to on a Friday or Saturday night. Or if you have family in town for the holidays, take your dad or an uncle who loves spy stories.

Strider, thanks for the heads up about this movie. I wanted to go see it on just the title alone, and, that Gary Oldman stars in it. The title, of course, reminds me of the Page/McCarty Yardbirds song "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Sailor" (from Little Games).

I'd like to find some time go and see it, as I won't be going to see any Matt Damon, Daniel Craig, or Leonardo DiCaprio films anytime soon... :)

The last few movies I watched this past couple of weeks and thought were great movies:

Casino Jack: Kevin Spacey, Barry Pepper, Jon Lovitz

The Company Men:Tommy Lee Jones, Ben Affleck, Chris Cooper

Fair Game: Sean Penn & Naomi Watts

Not sure if I could explain but I'd say it's my favorite of all of the movies I saw in 2011.

Wow! What am I missing? I can't fault the photography or location but???

To me it seemed another slap at the 50's lifestyle.

 Definitely one of the better films from earlier in the year. Only thing is, films released early in the year tend to be forgotten about when it comes time for the Oscar nominations...all the November and December releases get a disproportionate part of the attention.

Hopefully SOMEBODY in the Academy will remember this little gem from Mike Mills. Certainly Christopher Plummer deserves a nod for Best Supporting Actor.

Jahfin, if you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend you check out another small movie that kind of got lost in the shuffle early in 2011: "SUBMARINE", a fantastic movie from Wales.

I'm not sure what to tell you. The impression I got out of it is that it's more of a think piece where everyone that watches it gets something different out of it. One of the things I got out of it was how it took me back to my childhood when I first learned some of the differences between right and wrong away from the confines of home and school.

Saw that a few months ago and really enjoyed it.

Watched this yesterday:

I always like to remember my childhood in the 50's (I was born in 1950) and I was fine til I turned 13 and things went downhill for the next 10 years. But if I could ever go back to those kid days in San Francisco that would be heaven to me. Maybe the shots of the heavens from 'The Tree Of Life' has something to do with that? Also, the beach scene with all the people could mean??? Much to interpret in that one. Hell, I may just watch it again.

SPOILER ALERT

Like I said, I think the movie is meant to be open ended so that the viewer can interpret it on their own terms. I thought the creation of the universe sequences were meant to give a different viewpoint to the creation of life in general and to the beginning of time. As for the beach scene, I took that to be the afterlife where the family is reunited with the son that is killed in the beginning of the movie. You also see Sean Penn as one of the other sons as an adult. I don't claim to grasp it all but those are some of my impressions. I'd like to watch it again too but it'll probably be a while. I wish I had seen it in a theatre so I could have really enjoyed the creation of the universe sequences on a grander scale.

Yes, that would be awesome on the big screen. I thought of that when I watched 'Le Mans' with Steve McQueen and they had this great close-up of his blue eyes.
