GLOSSY CELEBRATION OF DAVID BOWIE’S LEGACY

STARS from the world of music and broadcasting gathered in London’s Dover Street Arts Club on Tuesday night for the launch of Speed Of Life – a celebration of David Bowie from 1972-2009 – a lavish hardback book by Japanese photographer Masayoshi Sukita.
Led Zeppelin legend Jimmy Page, Newsnight host Emily Maitlis, Radio 2 stalwart “Whispering” Bob Harris and Spandau Ballet singer Gary Kemp were among those at the event in Mayfair.
And Gary, who has previously confessed to a long-standing love of all things Bowie, was also full of praise for publisher Genesis, which specialises in this kind of limited edition.
“To me this is about two things I respect,” Gary, 52, tells us.
“One is David, obviously, and everything he did in the Seventies, and Genesis publications I think are extraordinary. What they offer to history is a visual feast of the legacy of rock and roll.”

One wonders if Bowie was afraid to show up because of Page's presence.

It may have been the other way around - Jimmy turned up because Bowie was not going to be present! There has been a history of antagonism between the pair, which I am sure most folks on this site know about. I looked on the Genesis Publications website, and the book certainly looks excellent because Bowie was such a visual artist.

I'm speculating but I don't think they harbor any animosity towards each other these days. I think that was a result of some drug induced paranoia on Bowie's part back in the 70's. It did make for one of the most memorable passages in Mick Wall's book!

Wouldn't it be a great pairing these two working together?

That would be completely left-field.

I thought that Bowie was quite ill recently. Perhaps that's why he wasn't there.
