It is in their own country, and it's probably the only time (except for Page who played Whole Lotta Love at the Closing Ceremony for Beijing) that they'll get this opportunity. I understand though that Robert wants to honor John Bonham, but do you guys think that if Bonzo could tell Rob, Jim, and John to play, he would? Let me hear what you think! If there is indeed another Zeppelin show (and I can't see that ever happening) it should be for a good cause. The fact that Free and The Sex Pistols turned down the chance to play says it all really as well as the fact they seriously asked The Who's manager if Keith Moon was available. Stryder1978 Posted July 18, 2012 Share Posted July 18, 2012 I wouldn't want to see Zep re-unite for the Olympics, but I wouldn't mind seeing a "supergroup" organized to play "Fanfare for the Common Man" similar to what was done at the Ahmet Tribute concert. Get a member of Zep, Yes, the Who, ELP, Beatles, and the Stones together to do a couple songs would be pretty cool and a fitting tribute to show what England gave the world musically! When you look at the huge range of musicians who are supposedly playing at the closing ceremony, it's hard to believe that none of them were asked. I can see there might be huge issues over the prominence each act was given ( and the arguments must still be going on ) ...so a request might not lead to an acceptance. But not to be asked at all ? Really ? I must say I am glad Jimmy wasn't in the opening ceremony. I loved the show but the way it was structured gave no real build up for the Arctic Monkeys and Macca... and personally I found that Hey Jude moment a great anticlimax. Think I might have gone along with that comment a couple of weeks ago: the London Olympics seemed commercialised as never before. But everything that's happened since it began has seemed to eclipse that : I don't feel at all that the commercialism has won out. As a Londoner ( and a typical British cynic... and generally no fan of sport) I'm slightly amazed - in the best way - at what I've found these Olympics to be . Actually, classy is exactly it. I also have high hopes that the classiness will extend to the closing ceremony. In spite of the secrecy, it's already clear that many very key British musicians will take part .. and its director Kim Gavin has let the rest of them off the hook by saying it won't be a comprehensive list of the last 50 years . The other suggestion is it won't be one-song-after-another but a bigger musical conception. I also still believe Jimmy might yet play. A lot of this ceremony remains under wraps . Given its scope, and his appearance in Beijing, I just can't believe he has not been asked to participate: they've asked every key Brit musician out there and half of them have said yes. Maybe what they offered didn't suit JP. But he's evidently proud of the Beijing appearance and would surely have considered an offer very seriously. Not long to wait ... Listening to people from around the world talking about it on the radio right now actually, and they can't seem to praise it highly enough. My points (as a Londoner) are still valid, they sponsors were avoiding tax, civilians had NO CHOICE in weather they wanted surface to air missiles on their houses, Unhealthy eating was promoted by one of the main sponsors, LOCOG were refusing people entry into spaces like Hyde Park and Victoria Park because they had brought their own refreshments i think i also posted that BEFORE the G4S scandal we may have won the bid in 2005 but the world (and we all know what makes its go round) is a different place now, some people cancel holidays as they cant afford them, some people forgo University as they cant afford it, some people like our elderly are facing the choice of heating or food as the pensions have gone down but the utilities have gone up, they no longer belong to the public, we get our Gas from Russia and our Energy company is French Our government, who nobody in democratic terms voted for, thought this spectacle must be protected at all costs, costs being the operative word. Its D Day plus one, lets see how long this legacy lasts as the country is still yet to recoup its losses, this all whilst our economical growth is at a whopping 0% , in the midst of a 4 year recession and paying nearly £10,000,000 per day to be in Afghanistan alone now the diversion is over for the masses who willingly wave a flag with limited but commercial meaning, time will tell if it was really worth it all Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

This has not been the case. Local residents have been evicted and moved out to new locations, and brand new houses and properties been built. These are priced for middle class families. In no way is that regeneration, if anything it's social cleansing. We are already seeing the same thing happen in Brazil in preparation for the 2016 games. I was a bit sceptical at first and would rather have had the football world cup in England but I was won over by what I saw. It helped that the British athletes did so well.
