The Beatles' 1962 music now in public domain

The Beatles' "Love Me Do" and its b-side "PS I Love You", released in 1962, are now in the public domain within Europe after its copyright lapsed on 31st December 2012. Under existing E.U. law, copyright for recorded music expires after 50 years. Recent changes to extend the limit to 70 years wont retrospectively cover music released in 1962.

And it should be noted "You Need Love", recorded by Muddy Waters in 1962, is also now in the public domain in Europe. The copyright in the US is still retained due to the 95 year limit there but the situation in Europe is different. Interesting.

No chance, this is The Beatles. Just let some mickey mouse operation try and put their Parlophone music out. It's not going to happen.
