redrum
Do books count? Can't count how many books I 'lent' out for someone to read, never saw them again.Jeez! Hell yeah they count. I saw a copy of Woody Guthrie's book on Amazon going for $2500. I would hate to have my books stolen or the inconsiderate jerk who borrows them not return it. I lent out an old WW2 book to a guy and he returned it with a round water mark on it as he must have used it for a coaster. Never appoligized for it either. But i don't think many thieves would want to cart books around. Like Chris Rock said: Books are kryptonite to thieves.
redrum
Can't believe I forgot about this. It involved a so-called motorcycle company called 'Nostalgia Cycle' in Huntington Beach, CA. Back in the mid 80's they got a bright idea to build a v-twin that used all GM internal parts (pistons, bearings, valves, 4 lobe cam, etc.) Well, it sounded like a great idea at the time mainly for the simplicity and ease of working on the motor and availability of parts from the local parts store. You'd think that wouldn't you? Their first 'experimental' motor was actually a 350 small block and they had cut the front 2 cylinders off and somehow got it to fit in a frame. It was then featured in the magazine 'Supercycle' (published by the owner of Nostalgia Cycle) and was given rave reviews even in its crude form. The owner/publishers name was Steve Iorio (Big Steve) and he was counting on Harley to go out of business at that time and he was looking to make a killing by projecting 50,000 sales of his motor in the first year. HAH!! But, to his chagrin Harley came out with the Evolution motor and pretty much killed Mr. Big's plan. Also that year the Yamaha V-Max came out and it would blow all competition away right out of the box. Anyway, I was then smitten by the idea of the Super Vee and I saved my money to get one. I loved the idea of the motor as I was a Chevy fan anyway. I sold my old Harley engine and frame and kept the other usable parts for the Super Vee. Me and my brother drove down to Huntington beach to pick up the motor and drove back all in one day (800 miles). But to make a long story short, let me just say that I had no idea what a nightmare I had gotten myself into with that motor. Here's a list of some of things I encountered: Bad oil pump (no pressure at idle) Flat lobe on the cam Timing gears out of alignment Valve seats all loose Valve springs all loose and missing shims Used connecting rods Piston tops had been ground down to lower compression Oil leaks in valve covers, oil pan and timing cover Heads and block not milled Engine was advertised at 94 cubes and was actually only 82 No steel inserts in aluminum heads and block ( sparkplug holes and head bolt holes stripped out after trying to torque heads) And to think, I payed $4,000 for this wonderful new motor. When I asked mr. Big how many he had sold by then he said 600. A paltry figure after his big projection. Anyway, despite the problems I was determined to make it work and got some help from other owners who had also suffered the same as me. I got it to work after many hours of cussing and screaming at that bastard Iorio and I actually got some decent long distance rides out of the thing. I sold the bike about 8 years ago to a guy in Indiana and he sold it to another guy who is also determined to make it work. A group of us tried to get a class action lawsuit against that little prick but nothing ever came of it. I still have some nasty letters from him that I've been saving for some reason and if I ever meet that asshole on the street I'm going to kick him right in the balls. The little prick did sell the tooling to some guy in Chicago who was supposed to be in the big money and was going to fix all the problems but I never heard anything about it as it must have taken the Iorio curse along with it. The bottom line is that there are many scumbags like this in the motorcycle industry and I pray that everyone of them gets run over by a train. DIE you bastards! The pic is of my friend Jim's Vee. Charles J. White
My home was robbed a while ago, electronics and music collection were cleaned out. I had to start from scratch plus I had to replace doors in my home. I actually had The Tea Party indie release and it was autographed by all 3 guys and it was taken as well. Was not a happy camper... Deborah J
kipper, agree with ally, what a nice thing to do, and I hope you told that cow to get her ass up!! That was disrespectful of her! In 1983 I had a Marantz sound system stole from my home in New Orleans, but I found out who did it, went to his house and got it back with a couple of friends who let's just say asked me if I wanted them to put him in the hospital , break a leg or two. Of course I said no and let everyone of our circle of friends know what he had done. This guy who stole from me hung out in the same clubs we did. He lost all of those friends and had to live with the shame. He was a moron!! Then after Katrina, two flat screen TV's , my sound system, a few hundred albums and another few hundred CD's, a black leather coat (I mean you need this in August in New Orleans ), my box of ticket stubs and a few other items. I had insurance and photos of everything as proof but still, the tickets for the most part can not be replaced and a lot of the albums I have been trying to replace since then and was very sad to not have those. Since my family and pets were safe the most important thing was my family photos and thank God those were not touched.
