This year's show at Red Rocks was the best I've seen yet.  You never know what they'll open up with and this year blew everyone away. Opening tune was an 8+ minute version on War Pigs complete with pyrotechnics, both a first for the band. The pyrotechnics were tongue-in-cheek but their cover of War Pigs was stellar and the first time they ever played it live. .. then without saying anything to the crowd, they go into a 5+ minute cover of Cinnamon Girl !

The tone was set for a magick evening.  No rain again, second year in a row... the only clouds in the sky were emanating from the audience ...filled with THC 😎

Set list....

1. War Pigs (Black Sabbath cover)
2 Cinnamon Girl (Neil Young cover)
3 New World Arisin
4 Turn the Light On
5 Hidden Charms - Willie Dixon song
6. Bittersweet
7. Damaged One
8. Wipeout Turn
9. Poor Miss
10. Josephina
11. Resignation Superman
12. Long Coal Train
13. I Wanna Know Everything
14. Tomorrow Never Comes
15. Detonator
16. Dirty Juice
17. Broken Hearted Savior
18. Roomful of Mirrors (Jimi Hendrix)
encore:
19. Boom Boom Boom
20. Circle
21 Hey Joe

A video I took of a blazing solo in Wipe Out Turn, the sound is a little distorted,  but gets better as I pan around to get footage of the Red Rocks crowd:

The New Orleans show was rocking. Tipintinas is such a cool place to see a show. Very small , beer is cold 🍻 and there's room upstairs to chill and watch the band.  No guest appearances,  I was hoping Trombone Shorty would show up and jam, but nada.  The opening band, Los Colognes was really good.

BTW... marijuana is decriminalized in New Orleans 😎

The opening band last night was The Main Squeeze.  I didn't know anything about them and was very pleasantly surprised.  Hard rock meets P Funk is the best way I can describe their vibe.

Jeremy Lawton of the Monsters sat in on lap steel during their last tune. A kick ass rendition of Whipping Post.

Big Head Todd's set was rocking and they didn't waste any time bringing some of the guys out from The Main Squeeze.  Third tune in thier singer Corey Frye and Ben “Smiley” Silverstein jumped in on the keys for a tight ass cover of Bill Withers , When I'm Kissing My Love. I managed to take a quick vid of that.

They closed the show with Ace of Spades , that took everyone by surprise. Might be the first time they did that, certainly I've not seen it appear on the setlist before.

Great time, with great music and a side of gummies 😎.... a perfect Saturday night!

I’m going to see JBT at the Botanical Gardens in Atlanta this summer too. No Red Rocks date for Big Head Todd this summer?  Funny how our two groups consistently mirror each other’s summer touring schedule and venues.

The Red Rocks show is this Saturday,   Colin Hay and Toad the Wet Sprocket are on the bill also.  Going to have to start the tailgate party early. Colin goes on at 6:30, no way am I missing a second of his set.

How is the venue at the Atlanta Gardens?

Were going up there at the end of July. The 26th is the date of our show. Looks great from their site.

Very envious of you going to RR. Definitely one place on the list to see a show. Colin Hay is going to be great I’m sure. Enjoy the edibles, etc! Looking forward to hearing about the experience.
