Complete RE-EDIT of The Song Remains the Same ORIGINAL /ACCURATE setlist on way! (proposal)

*****NOTE: I am new to this forum; I am NOT new to anything Led Zeppelin. Please, I ask you to ignore the first part of that sentence, and consider the second. Appreciated. ******

***The Song Remains the Same Complete Re-EDIT On Way! *** [Note]: Individual evaluation only, not a means of piracy; this will NOT be distributed in any such way; again, my individual evaluations

I've always preferred original TSRTS footage, be it a bootleg or 8mm. However, the actual viewing experience is rather limited by the subpar quality even terrible for 1970's cinematics. Honestly, the "film" portions of the film (I know, that sounds redundant, whatever) are pretty ugly. When one compares the close-up concert sequences re-filmed, the viewing experience becomes exhilarating. Add original panoramas of the actual crowd; the experience is timeless. And, of course, 1920 X 1080 resolution is absolutely stunning. The producers made their best intentions to create the best viewing experience possible during the time.

The only reason I bring this thought up is because of a project I am working on to re-edit TSRTS (film) as close to original setlist as possible, while still retaining an apex entertainment factor. The fan-edition looks great, but I wish to make it even better. The plans are as follows:

1. Rip 2007 Blu-Ray release as a main video reference for best consumer-attainable quality as of 2013

2. Integrate my FLAC vinyl rips as much as possible to cover the abridged / shortened scene performances and restore original song length.

3. Somehow attain the best quality original footage / bootlegs. This includes the abandoned gaps in Black Dog, The Song Remains the Same, The Rain Song, etc.

4. The whole point of #3 is to eliminate psychedelic/fantasy sequences limiting attention on the band itself.

The problem really arises from point no. 3; attaining footage to fill the gaps. I have some, but not enough. If anyone knows where to access the originals in best quality, that would be a great help!

Plans for release are late December/early January 2013/2014, though this is extremely tentative and subject to change. ***This is for experimentation purposes only and NOT for personal gain, resale, or profit or mass-release and or reproduction; only individual evaluation.***

If any of you are of interest, please don't hesitate to inform me as soon as possible! Thank you for your support.

My hunch is this thread may become locked or pulled as your proposal, though noble, does directly constitute piracy as well as bootleg production and as such is generally discouraged on this, the official forum. Having said that, bear in mind one reason the fantasy sequences exist in the first

place is to cover gaps in film footage. The reality is one will never find enough outside source film footage to cover those gaps in their entirety.

As a veteran with editing this stuff, I can agree with that statement with full certainty. Even mixing the 8mm films and various sources, there isn't enough to compile one continuous concert.

Indeed; that's where the trouble come in play. My intentions are simply to use as much stock footage as possible and NEVER make irrational or in-continuous shots as "fillers" so to speak. Of course, even the producers had to break continuity for quick shots, and the fantasy sequences.

If the fantasy sequences cannot be fully replaced, I will leave them in. Stock footage, however, is very promising. If I can tinker around abit, I might just have enough despite what you claim. I'm not looking to replace most re-shot Shepperton scenes, albeit ANY of them, moreover, make the film more unified and original. Got your PM. Gotta say, despite doubts, your help is a great contribution.

As long as you're not making profit from it, I'll help you as much as I can. ;)

Heck no; I'm a one man army on this one lol. I'm a firm believer against making money off a work that is entirely someone else's efforts. Zeppelin is too close to me to evade my conscience like that and then still be able to listen to them.

Welcome to the forum! If you (or any of you guys and girls here) find footage of Page's solo for No Quarter (yes.. THAT part)... I'd be forever thankful and will send some beers your way

I'm working on it - I'll tell you that. We might just have potential extra footage coming our way, perhaps in particular to what you mentioned in the very near future (not a joke), but you'll have to wait for now until more news is spread. Any and all details and lenghty questions you would like to know more, please send to LedZepFilm or me and we will be quick to inform you if we have further word.

Cheers mate

Alright, don't get me wrong, I love the idea, but can you please stop bumping this thread? The only way you can get the extra footage is if you get Jimmy Page to give you the original

master footage, wich I believe are not only in his posession, but possibly also in Peter Grant's estate, and just that almost makes it impossible to do, and if somebody asks on a Led Zeppelin forum if they could get original footage, you obviously don't have the right contacts for doing it.

But with this in mind, keep trying, I'd love to see your idea come true because it's not a bad one, but I really believe that if there was actual usable footage, by now we would have a complete "no bullshit" version of TSRTS.

Prez,

There is no footage existing from the solo unfortunately. Didn't mean to send out a false alarm, but would be thrilling in theory if it ever surfaces.

Was this directed to me? I'm the guy who asked for the NoQuarter solo bit. Anyway, that's too bad! It's the definitive piece of missing footage... Let's hope some vaults are opened in the future.. Cheers to you, man!

You'll need a lot more than just a vault to be opened..... You'll need a time machine and a cameraman too. That footage is missing for a very good reason.

UPDATE!

This project has turned into "The Song Remains Unchanged," a fan edition like no other, brought to you by ledzepfilm and anodizingstatic.

The main goal is to get rid of ALL of the Shepperton and non-concert bullshit and present the concert with only 100% real MSG footage. Using 8mm, the outtakes, and the various official releases involving this footage, we believe that this will be the best way to enjoy the concert.

Hopefully there's some interest for something like this!

This would be cool, if it could be done. but unfortunately there's quite a bit of footage missing even with the outtakes. But, I'd also much rather have the Shepperton footage than the fantasy sequences. Even with as much as possible that could be filled it, it still probably won't be complete as far as performance footage and audio from start to finish. You guys can try and perhaps you may surprise yourselves/ Would be interested in seeing the final product!

I have really wanted to see the intense lead in to Since I've Been Loving You more clear, without the camera effect applied. I am really hoping this is available. That is after all, the most intense angst filled thrashing of emotion dropping into that ballad you could ever hope for. It perfectly illustrates Jimmy's uncanny ability to communicate such a clear, and intense feeling. Almost like a language I did not know I could speak.

Here's hoping.
