A New Rocker in 6/8

Nice song, well recorded & performed, but sadly smashed to bits by waaaaaaaaay too much compression - to the point of distortion at a few points.

The great woz70 and his comments about compression strikes again!

Just kidding with you. I'd agree to an extent.

Thanks for the comments guys...on the compression, that was done by the mastering engineer (not me), and seems to be the norm these days. Soundcloud probably does additional compression when they convert files for their servers. Glad you liked the song at any rate...I suspect you are not a fan of the Zep compilation Motherlode!!

Get yourself a new mastering engineer! If he's introducing that amount of distortion (especially to cymbals & drums) he's either not listening to his own work properly or he's just not very good. The 'loudness wars' thankfully seem to be coming to a gradual end, so this sort of think should not be the norm for too much longer (outside of the identikit pop world, that is). It's a good song - get it mastered properly! Soundcloud doesn't actually add any compression in ,my experience - just converts to an mp3 format for playback.

Ok, the mix and master were tweaked a bit, so there is now more transient detail in the drums...it is still loud though, since that is what 99% of the competition is doing. I also finished another new track below...check it out.

Much better! The distortion seems to be gone from the loudest points now, and the cymbals no longer sound like tam-tams...
Don't have a problem with loud mixes, but when it's been squashed to the point of distortion it's not pleasant. There's still a fair bit of dynamic range in here and the louder bits actually get louder rather than denser. Good job!

Thanks so much for the feedback...it actually helped me out, as I am learning as I go, and now I know what to look out for in the future!! Thanks for taking the time to listen...these days, getting someone to just listen

to a rock track seems like an accomplishment.
