"Jimmy Page needs to have a good rest"

I think ignoring Jones for the Page and Plant stuff was as big a dick move as one can make.

Well maybe that was Roberts compromise in doing the Page Plant thing, even then he did not want to do the whole Led Zeppelin thing.

Thanks JTM for the first coherent post in this thread in a quite a while. The utter nonsense and Page fanboyisim conveyed in this thread is borderline comical.

Page has dedicated a good portion of his post Zep career blaming Robert for crushing everyone's dreams of a tour. Robert finally responds and everyone can't wait to pounce on him for being mean to poor Jimmy.

Jimmy wants to get paid and wants control. He is and has been the problem. Read Hoskyns book, it's all in there.

Thanks, but like I said I borrowed the comment from MT at R O, for exactly the reasons you stated in your post.

This whole drama reminds me of 92-93 Page & Plant media jabs. Like others, I've accepted that there will never be any tour, or even music. This latest crap is leaving a grumpy old men media shark fest that I hate to see come of my favorite band. The only good is that maybe Jimmy will get a little motivation from Robert's comments. Time to move on James. A few steps since 1980, but let it rip. Bobby went Nashville, and so did my admiration for him. Thank you John Paul for doing your talking on stage

Some suggestions and clarifications:

1. Let's not use crude language to talk about people whom we idolize, at least as musicians if not people.

2. Speaking only for myself I do not "hate" Robert Plant. I think he probably has a personality disorder, but that's partly genetic so it is what it is.

3. All members of the band are/were deeply flawed people and this was apparent even in the 70s, so if you're just catching on to this now...not sure what to say.

4. The problem is that they didn't communicate clearly with each other after the O2 and this seems to be continuing. They should hire a therapist who can do family/group therapy and clear the air. (I volunteer my services--+20 yrs experience and I work with creative people).

5. The issue isn't "art" but giving fans a chance at an experience many of us missed, due to being too young, too poor or not in the right place at the right time. I see the purpose of art as being for others, not for the self, anyway. Otherwise, it is self-indulgence.

Agree.

Recently a reporter friend of mine met both Jimmy and Robert for interviews. She asked me afterwards "What IS it with Jimmy Page?" Wrong question. Another person fooled by Robert's "free and exploring" schtick, and the charming, witty, but questionable self-deprecation about all he did with Led Zeppelin.

Scarlet Macaw, I don't know anything about personality disorders - though plainly they both have complex personalities.

But as we're chucking theories about, mine relates to astrology. Robert has Sun conjunct Saturn - I have the same thing so that puzzled me once..

But to have that Sun/Saturn conjunction means that for you, to win the lottery for example, or perhaps to be plucked from relative obscurity as an asphalt layer/ part time singer in 60s Birmingham and launched into sudden stardom, isn't as good as it sounds. Stuff that "happens" to you never counts, and even if you make a huge contribution to it, you conveniently forget your own part in it, because you tell yourself it's not of your making, and that whatever you achieve has a level of fraudulence...In your own mind, only your own authorship and graft count.

Somewhere in the timeline, between the moment when the authorship was Jimmy's and the time when it all fell apart so badly, there was a golden time when RP and JP were completely aligned and creating so much as a close partnership. Most people would recognise, celebrate, and miss that, even if they felt it was too far in the past to resurrect.

The only way this can end is for Jimmy to come out with new music and SHOW Robert that he doesn't need him. Robert is good at manipulating the press and knows how he can get to Jimmy.

I agree with Superdave, this thread needs to have a rest.

I agree with The Chase also. Robert needs to actual say its over.

You're right. It seems to be Robert's way of telling Jimmy off. This is the worst of Robert's cracks against Jimmy. His last one was in his interview in November when he said that he was in the band too long with Jimmy. I really hope that this makes Jimmy really do something as he has been promising. Jimmy doesn't sound like he wants to be retired. I understand that he didn't want anyone else to remaster Zep as it is too important to him, but it angers me that Robert picks the day after the releases to make his crack when he has not lifted a finger to help Jimmy promote them!

I don't want a Zep reunion -- I do want Jimmy to move on.

Plant said he'd been in a band with Jimmy too long? That is REALLY disturbing. Robert really should retire all of Zeppelin from his set if he feels this way. As it is, Zep is over 1/2 of what he performs. Maybe he should return the Grammy for 'Please Read the Letter' as well, since he wrote it with Page.

Robert has always been quick with his tongue. You'd think someone who is as good with words, as he doubtless is, would be a little more thoughtful. I did enjoy Don Henley's response to his dig at The Eagles in the RS interview though!

I believe in an interview with the BBC in April, when asked if there was any chance of a Led Zeppelin reunion, Robert replied "Zero". Pretty clear and to the point. He should just stick to that answer every time he's asked.

Makes perfect sense to me.

I remember that too. But those comments don't stick for whatever reason.

When Zeppelin first disbanded ... it was slammed home (by all 3 of them I might add) that it was over.

Without Bonzo it wouldn't .. couldn't happen. Well.. 30+ years later.. it's still over..

He (JPJ) is out parking the car.

Jimmy needs to have a good rest ... or Jimmy needs to take a nap.

Ask the Capricorns. I'm doing nothing in 2014.

The Eagles are bored.. I'm not bored..

These are a just few of the many throwaway Robert Plant one liners that have had negative impact...

Just say.. It's over. I've moved on...

The Eagles have nothing to do with it either... why drag them into it...?

They didn't lose 1/4 of their band tragically... Did they?

They reconciled. The one guy that they couldn't reconcile with, Don Felder was let go.

This whole affair is what my father would call "making a mountain out of a molehill". Both Mr. Page and Mr. Plant in most interviews speak respectfully and admirably of each other. However when one is repeatedly asked the same stupid question over and over again despite receiving the same answer over and over again, it can make any sane person irritable. Mr. Page has done umpteen interviews these past few months and without fail he is asked this inane question. It appears Mr. Plant was recognizing his workaholic brother was exhausted and agitated by once again having to respond to this stupid question.

Mr. Page is quite skilled in refusing to answer questions about Crowley, Thelema, & his personal life. Perhaps this should be one more question he hones his cold icy stare and states "that question has been exhaustively answered"

Being a big Eagles fan ,myself, I thought that was pretty low of Henley and Frey. I did see them again in 2003 in Buffalo. Great show. Joe Walsh really helped. This things will blow over hopefully. I saw a commercial today on a local show that sells local homes, its was for the remastered albums. So Jimmy is really putting the advertising out there.

To leave T-Bone/Krauss and the rest of that cast would have been instant blacklist for Plant in Nashville...... JTM this is ludicrous. I posted a article

on another thread that would show the complete fault in your thinking. Buddy and he had met in the sixties. I think Nashville was a little in awe of

him doing music locally, even as an outsider here. I am pretty sure Nashville would welcome him back with open arms.

The best comment I have read on this matter comes from 'Midnight Toker' over at R O where MT hits the nail right on the head. Hope he does not mind me posting his comment here,if he objects I will remove it.

Here is his comment.

Perspective is EVERYTHING in this quarrel.

For the record.

Plant had been in contact w/ Krauss and T Bone for years prior to Raising Sand....then it came to fruition in 06. Both being WAY WAY up there as far as collaborators/producers go. As big as Plant has worked with since Zep. Add a cherry picked lineup of Nashvillle's best musicians (the rock equivalent of picking musicians from Zappa and Steely Dan to fill out your band) ...and you have Raising Sand. They record...and plan a tour. The single Gone Gone Gone drops early enough to win a Grammy by itself while the album release will have to wait another year to be eligable. Meanwhile....not so long departed Ahmet Ertegun's fundraiser...Ahmet having been much closer to Plant on a personal level than any Zep members, throws out the BIG gig offer....to Plant...who having loved Ahamet coerced the others to do it....all while taking off time from press/promotion/tour plans of what was already in the worlks for years....and already heralded as THE album of the year. Then comes the 02...goes off great. Afterwards, press corners Jimmy into "what about a tour?" Jimmy says, "Well we reheased like it was for a tour...we really should".

That right there is dick move #1. (he might as well of said whatever Plant is doing now is not important)

While Plant is touring the world w/ Krauss to raving reviews (and trust me, I saw it from the 2nd row at a sold out Merriweather...it was fucking great!! eusa_clap.gifeusa_clap.gif ) Page, Jones, JPJ announce they are rehearsing for a tour..."we just need a singer eusa_whistle.gif "

Dick move #2

Plant's tour takes him all the way into Noverber of 2008!

JPJ..."I quess Robert just doesn't want to play loud music anymore."

I ask you...what is worse than literally pissing on your supposed friend's biggest parade for your own monetary interests? Huh?? icon_rolleyes.gif

Maybe it all really comes down to Plant having lived well beneath his means all these years while the others have literally lost their asses in real estate and stocks. eusa_think.gif (I once heard Page was major stock holder in WEA...this was back in the late 80's)

Just saying...the way 07/08 went down was really unfair to Plant IMO...downright cutthroat if you get right down to it. To leave T-Bone/Krauss and the rest of that cast would have been instant blacklist for Plant in Nashville and beyond. You just don't do that to those caliber of musicians. Not for a reunion that was never once talked about before Dec 7th 07. I bet that pissed Plant off pretty good...and it damn well should have.

Meanwhile....blind Zep fanboi nation was on the Planthatin wagon (again) full force come Dec 9th 07. eusa_naughty.gif

I'm sorry to say...but Plant's right. The only way for Zep to go is down....and Page seems willing to do just that... at 70. icon_eek.gif For what? $$$$$$?? Definitely not for "art"....as there's no chance in hell of improving on it, much less coming close to what's been done already. Plant seems content. He's done quite well for himself and could easily live off of just non Zep royalties and touring. JPJ honestly hasn't had a major arena tour paycheck since US 77...but I'm sure lives a nice life w/ all he does producer/collaborator wise. Page....it seems no one but Halfin can get a honest clue as to what's going on in his mind.....all I know is...if it's not Zep...and it's not on a grand scale...it's not in his interest. IMO that's bullshit...and the opposite of what a real "artist" strives for. icon_confused.gificon_sad.gificon_sad.gif I used to worship the guy...literally....today...disheartening to say the least. I've had relationships with women break off less painfully. icon_razz.gif

What actual evidence do you have that JP and JPJ were in it for the money? Don't you think the reason Jones hasn't done an arena tour is that he DOESN'T NEED TO? Them Crooked Vultures easily could have done arenas. The man is writing an opera for christ sake! If he really needed money, if any of them needed money, don't you think they'd be doing all they can like half the other artists from that era; touring crappy casinos and such.

Exactly, and they got together as Page + Plant not long after. That's why I'm slightly hopeful: when they're bitchy and mean to each other, something could happen.

Huh.

Dick move #1 - I don't see how Jimmy's saying that could make Robert feel that the others thought what he had going on wasn't important. If it was Robert who 'coerced' the others, wouldn't it have occurred to him, before the concert, that they may really enjoy playing together again and want to do some more shows? How does this poster think the other three had felt? Robert gets his bandmates all worked up (granted it was for Ahmet) only to drop them like a hot potato? In that case, they all felt a kill-joy.

Dick move #2 - Didn't someone say that Robert abandoned his brothers and guests immediately after performing the show at the O2?? That looks to me like someone who is totally disinterested. And maybe he was disinterested because if that were my band, I'd be on the phone with a quick "Hey! F*** this crap! I'M THE SINGER OF THIS BAND! I'm busy right now but we'll be talking a.s.a.p."

As for John Paul's "I guess he just doesn't want to play loud music anymore." Why did John Paul have this impression? Lack of communication maybe?

I get the feeling Plant's attitude at the O2 show was...."Okay, I did your Zeppelin concert. We absolutely nailed it. Now enjoy the feeling, because I'm done with it. You got what you wanted, now I'm moving on—starting immediately." Clearly, Plant was in no mood to bask in the glory of an amazing performance—and he still isn't.

I'm not sure if this was before or after ... I read that Robert went to see Them Crooked Vultures and enjoyed it. But said he thought it was very loud.. And that's all well and good..

The Thundertheif was rocking like there was no tomorrow... morrow... morrow....

Now JPJ's writing an Opera and jamming with Seasick Steve .. So obviously he enjoys doing whatever he pleases..

Robert likes being his own boss. He has a very cool, trippy sounding band going and he likes to mix things up every couple of years.

So obviously RP enjoys doing whatever he pleases ... Again, all well and good.

Jimmy needs to let go and get his own thing going..

I love that he is the keeper of all things Zeppelin. But I can't wait for the SOLO ALBUM..

Time for Jimmy to do WHATEVER HE PLEASES...

I'm most likely in the minority in that I don't want to see a reunion happen... not without John Bonham...

I'd be curious, but disappointed..

I'd love to see them stop bickering.. period.

Peace out..

I'll just echo what a lot of others are saying.

JP needs to get out there with some new material and slam it! Show his former band mates he's still got it.

Plant is happy in his new life, JPJ looks to be in the same book.

As for the O2, I remember Plant saying BEFORE the show "[paraphrasing] everyone is thinking of more Zep shows, but I will be rolling my way back to nashville and my girl Allison as soon as the O2 is done". I think he was pretty clear about this being a one off gig.

And I thin Percy is right, he and Page will sort this out, they are like brothers. They fight every once in a while, but still love each other.

What is it that makes some of you think you are clued in to what Page/Plant/Jones/Bonham think, feel, are motivated by, want, should do, and owe you as fans? There is an undercurrent here which believes that if a Led Zeppelin reunion tour doesn't happen, these guys will have failed somehow, will die unfulfilled, and you as fans will be shortchanged. Really. The bucket list concept is sad and pathetic and it's crazy to think these guys need one now all of a sudden. They may not be done creating and entertaining, just accept they'll be doing it on their own terms, not necessarily yours. Accept that already. Consider also that maybe it isn't Jason Bonham's sole purpose here on earth to live in his father's shadow, to live vicariously through his father's past life to create an experience for selfish, thoughtless and demanding "fans". There may be a chance that's a possibility.

Ever seen the SNL skit where Shatner tells the trekkies to get a life? It may hit a little too close to home for some of the people here.

A pity there isn't a thumbs up or +1 function on this site so....:thumbsup::thumbsup:

OK, again stop, the bickering between the band members should stop, and so should we.

There's a million options out there, but only they get to choose, and each to they're own.

Let's just appreciate the different things we're getting from each........

and a pub stand up for a song or two, when the chance arises, but that's on them.

I think Jones is definitely happy with things, but i feel like if Plant and Page called him tomorrow and said hey let's get going, he'd be on board. I recall reading that after they visited the O2 and decided that's where their reunion would take place, Jones ran up and down the stairs in excitement.

I'm with you on this one Morgan. It's is all becoming (once again), terribly undignified on a public footing between Jimmy and Robert. They are both in their twilight years and life's too short for all this.

Robert has many more valid reasons to be resistant to the Zeppelin legacy regarding performing again as 3/4 Zeppelin. He was extremely close to Jimmy in the early to mid-70s, as Jimmy's and John PJ's recent interviews testify to; they travelled together and hung out together a lot when not on tour. This clearly changed after Robert experienced family tragedies and when Jimmy became lost in the fog of heroin.

Jimmy is palpably stuck in the past, I'm sure fuelled in no little way by his intense, periodic phases of post-1982 production duties to create - the LZ DVD, HTWWW, the SRTS remaster, Celebration Day and two sets of remastered studio releases, as well as the extensive media promotional activities attendant to them. Robert did not have the same exposure to this heritage immersion process and combined with a hugely successful solo career and the personal relationship dynamic shift with Jimmy, it is thus easier for him to be nonchalant and relentlessly resistant to another live reunion. Jimmy has nothing else of real consequence to currently hang his John Varvatos coat on to, as far as creative output, so it is understandable he is still embroiled in a sustained, unrequited yearning for Zep to head stage ward again. Jimmy being older than Robert probably has a heightened sense of his own morality, which is likely another driving force provoking this longing for one more run at Zep live.

I think Jimmy should simply get his manager to book a series of "Jimmy Page: Acoustic" shows at smaller theatres in UK and USA, to get him in the rhythm of playing live and catalyse his creative muse on instant audience feedback, then get a farewell electric album out with a supporting tour.

Cheers,

Indi
