This is another one of those songs when people hear it; they are sort of surprised that it's them. There is something about the drumming bit in the first 2 minutes that I can't wrap my brain around; almost like there are multiple drummers, but they don't sound like drummers, it almost reminds me of the sound in John Lennon's Give Peace a Chance that sounds like drumming but isn't, I can't figure out what it is. And there is an E-bow thing going on:

Holy shit, Def Leppard just announced a pretty big tour for the summer, but the big news is that they seem to be getting ready to release a new album which I'm shocked, because Halley's Comet has not come around yet, I have been hearing comments and rumours for 8 years now that they were going to record a new album. Now they are saying late 2015 which really means early 2016 so we wait a while a longer I guess:

When I was a kid, I actually followed them around on part of a tour once with an older family member of mine. My dad wasn't impressed at all, but my mom signed off on it.

Here are 3 songs I always liked a lot

The slide guitar intro on this with the lyric worked so well

Joe gave a great interview and he talked about something he did for the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame years ago and they still ignore him., What a bunch of dicks, he really does strike me as one of us, a genuine music guy:

I love him to bits but sometimes he drives me fucking batty with his view on vinyl. The reason I think a lot of people love vinyl is because of the album cover art and the liner notes, it's something that you can actually hold and just sort of stare at it when alone and the music is playing. I get his point about the ipod and I own an ipod and love it as well. But there is something very unique about the album cover art and liner notes whenever someone has a few minutes late at night to listen to music of whatever album by whatever artist. - which in my humble opinion adds to the experience of listening to music.

By the time you arrive at the 3rd song from the new Def Leppard album is called “Man Enough” I discovered a new Def Leppard, a modern sounding Def Leppard that reaches back to some of the best elements of Queen or Michael Jackson with a driving bass line and combines it all with a groovy R&B sound with lots of tasteful guitar bits and a very swagger like blue collar vocal from Elliott.

For anyone who loves Led Zeppelin and The Tea Party the song “Battle of My Own” is what you have been waiting for. The lyric is so amazing, Elliott knows how to tell a story- I’m not saying this is what the song is about , but anyone who has lost someone to suicide and the anger and frustration that comes with it will find comfort in this song. It has a Sloan/Queen style backing vocal.

Last Dance is the perfect mix Oasis meats the Beatles (You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away). The guitar riffing and solo later in the song would make Noel Gallagher blush – the quintessential British guitar solo. Takes you back to being a kid. The perfect campfire song or early Sunday morning acoustic guitar strumming kind of tune - a real warm vocal on it!

“We Belong” is a song of genuine hope and a song where all 5 individual members of the band showcase their own individual tremendous vocal abilities and once again it is littered with tasteful and fitting guitar bits showcasing why Def Leppard was always a step up from most of the 1980’s and early 1990’s rock music scene.

“Invisible” is without a doubt the most modern sounding Def Leppard song and one which I’m 100% certain will age very well in decades to come. And once again Def Leppard pushes itself lyrically leaving behind past times and becoming more mature in the process; probably the most surprising song on the album that brings a smile to your face.

“Sea of Love” has this almost country sounding opening which I’m certain I have heard from somewhere, and the vocal harmony in the chorus is equal to anything which Queen had done but it combines with a grungy sort of chugging guitar vibe right out of Seattle. Throughout the song is a cool almost gospel like howling in the background.

“All Time High” is a song that really drives the message home with a positive outlook you can win at whatever it is you do for a living. The guitar fest later in the song is pure madness!

Broke n Brokenhearted is a really angry rocker that kind of speaks to me for some reason, the lyric is fantastic. Another great song is “Forever Young” has a pleasant David Bowie surprise for anyone else who might be a music junkie.  The guitar riff is raw and fantastic.  "Wings of Angel" and "Blind Faith" are 2 of the best songs I have heard in the last 20 years.

I actually think it is the best Def Leppard album I have heard.

Terrific band, comfortably the best of the '80s glam metal genre. Love the stories of their contemporaries spending three years trying to catch up with what was done on Pyromania...then just as they were about getting there, Hysteria was unleashed! The drummer is an absolute miracle. And it's not hard to see where the inspiration for a name like Def Leppard comes from... B)
