Robert Plant & the Sensational Space Shifters - 2015 gigs/tour dates

In the recent USA Today article, it states that Robert and the SSS have some shows already lined up and, "More tour dates are expected soon."

I thought it would be good for the sake of clarity regarding gigs and tour dates in 2015 to create a space to post about and discuss a musician who along with his collaborators is in the news for actually making and performing and discussing music.

So far:

VIVE LATINO, March 13 - 15, 2015 (RP & SSS on the 13th)

BOTTLEROCK, May 29 - 31, 2015

BONNAROO, June 11 - 14, 2015

Here's hoping for more great live shows and new music :D

Hoping Robert and co. play some more UK shows this year. He was incredible at Glastonbury Abbey last year. Gutted I couldn't make the fall dates in London as it seems they were even better! He and the band seem to be going from strength to strength at the moment. I seriously think he's doing some of the best shows of his career now. Plus, I thought the new record was incredible :)

From the interview:

Plant makes it clear he has no intention of losing sight of his lifelong pursuit of setting his life experiences to music. "I hear the sound of time roaring past me," he says. "And there is no time to lose. "

I love RP's thoughts on life!

It's a good article that reiterates his pov on the never-ending journey (with some added other details for spice) and gets the news flowing of their playing again (plus a great B/W photo - I'm wild about them!).

Another series of performances at LOLLAPALOOZA:

CHILE, MARCH 14 & 15, 2015 (RP & SSS playing on the 15th)

ARGENTINA, MARCH 21 & 22, 2015 (doesn't say yet which day they're performing)

lollapalooza-argentina-2015.jpg

BRASIL, MARCH 28 & 29, 2015 (RP & SSS show on the 28th)

JULY 16, 2015 - MOLDEJAZZ FESTIVAL, NORWAY

Festival runs July 13 - 18

1200x400_croped.jpg

Moldejazz' are thrilled to present rock-icon and world-musician Robert Plant alongside his band The Sensational Space Shifters at Romsdalsmuseet on Thursday July 16th. The former Led Zeppelin-singer, a creative and playful musician anno 2015, plays his very own mix of folk-rock, roots and blues - intermixed with west-African music - and is not afraid to reinterpret his Zeppelin-classics. This will be a two-part concert, and first to take the stage is American jazz-singer Gregory Porter who has seen a quick rise to stardom since his 2010 debut. The man with the velvety voice is one of the worlds most sought-after jazz-artists, and Moldejazz are exuberant to be able to present him at Romsdalsmuseet.

I will be at the Cannock Chase show.

That's awesome. I checked out the other venue sites/forests listed on the Forestry Commission site, and hands down The National Arboretum has the most stunning scenery. If I had my druthers, that's the one I'd go to (and whisper to every tree - I know it's cheesy, and I don't care) and the concert would be a bonus. Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how the set list changes and whether they introduce any new songs along the way.

Robert is always the busy bee and loves touring and showcasing his music to new audiences! Hope he returns to the NYC area shortly, but probably not too soon as he played a few shows in the area last September. Glad I got to see him at the historical Capitol Theatre in Portchester. Great show and venue!

Anybody going to that Sasquatch Festival?? Holy crap is that a great line-up--Robert Plant and a lot of other fun live bands. Hmm maybe should plan a trip to see my peeps in Seattle & Vancouver and check out the fest too?--coming up quick--but it looks like you have to get the $350 pass for all days. That kinda stinks.

^Yeah it seems they're doing the festival circuit, which is smart - ready-made slots where they get a more diverse crowd and expose their music to more people. Still, it IS a steep ticket price. Too bad they don't have a one day pass option (though depending on the festival set-up, the logistics for that might be a nightmare). Have a great time, if you decide to go.

Anyway, some more dates have been added in late summer:

Please note that RP's site has this show listed as being on July 28th, but that seems to be incorrect (when you click on 'tickets' on RP's site, the date on the ticketing site is is 29-7-2015, just like on the Jahrhunderthalle site). As they say in the Scouts, be prepared.

Greek Theatre Unveils 2015 Lineup: Robert Plant, Wilco, 'Weird Al'

By Mike Barnes, The Hollywood Reporter

| March 06, 2015 12:43 PM EST

As the drama over who will run The Greek Theatre continues to play out, the shows must go on, and so the iconic L.A. venue this morning unveiled its lineup and subscription program for its 2015 season.

Among the acts set to perform under the stars are Robert Plant & the Sensational Space Shifters, Boy George and Culture Club, Latin pop divaGloria Trevi, alt rockers Wilco, Beach Boys legend Brian Wilson (appearing on his 72nd birthday), SoCal punk godfathers Social Distortion and newly minted Grammy winner "Weird Al" Yankovic.

How Live Nation & Nederlander/AEG's Battle for the Greek Became a Political Time Bomb

Blues-rock dynamo Tedeschi Trucks Band, which closed the Greek season last year in spectacular fashion, returns on a bill with soul sensation Sharon Jonesand the Dap-Kings and guitarist Doyle Bramhall II.

Swedish electronic music maestros Little Dragon kicks off the subscription series May 16, and EEK! At the Greek!, the annual family favorite featuring Symphony in the Glen and music director Arthur B. Rubinstein, wraps things up Oct. 24.

Also heading to the famed Griffith Park amphitheater: Jackson Browne, Peter Frampton (with Cheap Trick), The Gipsy Kings, Sugar Ray, Ben Folds, guitar great Joe Bonamassa, violinist Lindsey Stirling, electronic act Hot Chip and country stars Little Big Town.

The Greek's Premier Access Season Subscription (P.A.S.S.) program enables fans to create their own concert series (buying at least three shows is required); it comes with exclusive amenities and without a membership fee.

Los Angeles City Council Votes to Reject Live Nation's Bid for The Greek Theatre

The program also includes the option to buy tickets at other venues promoted by Greek operator and manager Nederlander, including the venerable Pantages Theatre in Hollywood and the City National Grove in Anaheim.

The 5,900-seat Greek, which opened in 1929, has been run by Nederlander since 1975, but its contract expires after this season. In an effort to fend off concert powerhouse Live Nation and keep control of the landmark venue, Nederlander has partnered with AEG -- and the tussle has been messy.

After Live Nation won the early rounds in the bidding process, the L.A. City Council voted Feb. 11 to oppose the selection of a new operator. Now the decision's back in the hands of the city's parks commission, which could stick with its original choice of Live Nation, change to Nederlander/AEG or start the bidding all over again.

This season, once or twice a month when the venue would otherwise be idle, Nederlander and AEG Live will launch a new "At the Greek" series in the plaza area that will feature live music, specialty programming, workshops, food and more.

Head over to THR.com for the 2015 Greek P.A.S.S. lineup, with additional shows to be added throughout the season.

http://www.billboard.com/articles/business/6494714/greek-theatre-unveils-2015-lineup-robert-plant-wilco-weird-al

Another article:

Robert PlantFew venues in the United States are able to pull in the eclectic mix of talent that the Greek Theatre rounded up for its upcoming run of shows. Robert Plant, Little Big Town and Social Distortion will all stop by the notable Los Angeles venue in the coming months. The announcement comes on the heels of a dispute over who will run the venue after this season -- longtime owner/operator Nederlander or Live Nation., Little Big Town, Social Distortion and More to Play the Greek Theatre in 2015 [FULL SCHEDULE]

There are currently 31 different acts scheduled for the Greek starting in May and ending in October. Interestingly enough, Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience will perform May 23 ahead of Plant and his Sensational Space Shifters. Other classic rock outfits include The Doobie Brothers, Peter Frampton and Cheap Trick, Brian Wilson, and Jackson Browne.

On the pop side of the roster, Sugar Ray, Uncle Kracker, Better Than Ezra and Eve 6 will all perform together on July 19 with Boy George and Culture Club scheduled for July 24. Check out the impressive lineup below.

In February, the L.A. City Council voted to oppose Live Nation's bid to operate the Greek once Nederlander's contract expires (the organization has run the venue since 1975), according to The Hollywood Reporter. Nederlander has partnered with AEG, so now it's up to the parks commission to decide who will run the venue.

ROBERT PLANT Tapping Into Same Sources As In LED ZEPPELIN Days

robertplantsolo2014live_638.jpg

According to The Pulse Of Radio, Robert Plant has been getting great notices for his recent shows with his SENSATIONAL SPACE SHIFTERS along with their work on the band's debut album "Lullaby And… The Ceaseless Roar". Plant spoke to Relix magazine about his current music and how it connects to his early days in LED ZEPPELIN, explaining, "I want people to know I'm pulling points of reference from other times and other places — incongruous and out of step and kilter — into another world. I've done it with ZEPPELIN lyrics, as well — 'if the sun refused to shine' and 'the road remains the same' and all the shit. There's so many bits like that, because I like the idea of spinning the bottle. And if one or two people pick up on it, that's the justice — that's about right."

In regards to recording, Plant admits that his studio process in tracking vocals has remained unchanged: "I think, quite often, the first two vocal takes are all I need. Whether it's good or bad, I don't care. It was the same with ZEPPELIN, really — 'In Through The Out Door' or 'Physical Graffiti' — there's so many places I could've done better, but I'd have lost the feel, you're closer to the all the great god up there — (Howlin') Wolf and Charley Patton and Mario Lanza and all that stuff. You've got to get up there and reach for it, and have the essence still on board."

Despite his public misgivings about reforming LED ZEPPELIN as a live act, Plant can't deny the power and quality of the band's classic works. "When I hear the ZEPPELIN records now, they've been hawked and whored to such a degree that you start to wonder what in God's name is going on. But then, when you hear it in isolation, in one minute of calm quiet, you remember what the actual spell was and how it was cast."

Robert Plant has always taken pride that regardless of the era and its influences, he always meant whatever it was he was singing. "I just get into songs and live 'em out," he said. "And I think that's true. All I do is get into great songs."

Robert Plant and his SENSATIONAL SPACE SHIFTERS will next perform on March 13 in Mexico City, Mexico.

On April 25, Plant and Alison Krauss will be among the headlining artists scheduled to perform at Lead Belly At 125: A Tribute To An American Songster. The event is being organized by the Kennedy Center and Grammy Museum.

Plant's next SHAPE SHIFTERS U.S. date is set for May 30 in Napa, California at BottleRock Napa Valley at Napa Valley Exposition. After that, the band will play on June 5 in Hunter, New York at the Mountain Jam festival at Hunter Mountain.

Hi Deb  Thanks for posting. I wish I could +1 ^ but write simply to say again that those who think Robert hates his Zep past or whatever because he doesn't want to repeat it are simply not listening to what he is saying about it. It's a fine balance to tip your hat and yet move along. There it is in black and white. Again.

Some interesting insights about the recording process (I love knowing the details of how anything artistic is shaped into itself). lullaby has many finespun layers of musical influences and allusions yet the vocals actually sound understated, so I had the impression that they were maybe done as many times as it took to get them just so, but it turns out that wasn't that way. I guess it's some blend of having an idea of how you want to complement the songs without it being too stale from too many takes. It sounds fresh, so I guess we have a better idea why. Good read.
