Do I Have All The Essential Bootlegs?

Hey guys first post on this site after being an avid reader the last several weeks researching everyone's bootleg recommendations and downloading them, I just wanted to confirm that I have all the best performances and recordings. If you see one that I am missing (or have one that isn't top tier) please comment on it. I am a guitar player, so any shows with Page in the front of mix (1/26/69) are appreciated. Thanks.

Hi mate, you've basically got most of my core collection...I'm pretty picky when it comes to sound quality. I'm also not a massive fan of 1975....so others will give you a better view on the best gigs. Same applies to 1980, which I never listen to. In 1975, the set list just didn't do it for me. Like Nutrocker my favourite tour is '77 despite the inconsistencies. After that, it's '69 and '70 for me.

Just a few more I reckon - for Denmark '69 the dates escape me for now - I'll provide them later.

1969 Denmark gigs - will give you dates later.

31/8/1971 - Orlando - arguably my favourite boot. Unbelievable version of 'Thankyou'. Terrific gig. Get the Genuine Masters 'You Really Got Me'. You'll love this show.

1971 Japan tour - get all of them. They are brilliant.

1972 - you're missing the Osaka show.

14 (I think??)/2/1975 - New York Four Blocks in the Snow - official release quality.

20/3/1975 - Canadian Crush Liquid Led. Good gig. Brilliant sound quality.

18(???)/5/1975 - Earls Court audience recording - No Quarter EV

24/5/1975 - Earls Court

28/4/1977 - Cleveland. Good audience recording. Great gig.

27/6/1977 - LA Forum - brilliant acoustic set. Get the Winston remaster

23/7/1979 - Copenhagen. Great gig. Brilliant NQ.

4/8/1979 - Knebworth. Has its detractors, but I like it. If only for TYG.

Nope

you are missing 23,24,27,28 from the 1971 japan run, Highly recommended Feb 12th 1975 Four Blocks In The Snow   also Feb13th 75 (Both shows great No Quarter and Incredible Dazed and Confused) and you need to hear all the Earl's court shows before you feel that having the 25th is as good as it gets.

Going by on own personal prefference I would say your missing

26/4/69 - Best show of the year for me with a good for the era audience recording, my favourite versions of As Long As I Have You and a great very different Whole Lotta Love debut.

31/8/71 - Best of US SB's from the 71 tour, not complete but alot of the best stuff and maybe the best Thank You ever.

23/9/71 - All The Japan 71 shows are great but this is the only one besides the last night thats also pretty well recorded, the whole lotta love here is incredable.

25/11/71 - The UK tour just afterwards is very underrated and this is probably the best combination of performance and recording quality.

3/6/73 - The most fun if not technically perfect show of US 73 for me, recording messed up in a few places but the 2CD edit is great with enjoyable sound quality.

25 & 27/3/75 - The last two LA shows are definately worth having, the start of the shows are patchy but the epics are great as are the recordings from Millard.

24/5/75 - Might be quite similar to the night afterwards but it also sounds great and is arguebly a bit better performance wise.

25 & 27/6/77 - Again obviously going over similar ground to the two shows you have and perhaps not quite such good performances but still worth having I think, the last show espeically is probably the ultimate in Zep excess along with the last LA 75 show.

11/6/69  Winterland ballroom - Page is on fire , clear guitar recording.

3/21/70 - Vancouver - Pb  Zep's first bootleg

9/23/71 is a must , but all '71 Japan tour are worth having.

6/9/72 Charlotte is a very pleasant listen, wrongly criticized for being a "slow' show. It is a tight, relaxed and well paced and controlled performance.

You need some Australian '72 shows. At least Melbourne or Adelaide. Those are killers!

Get a couple more 73 US shows - LA Forum Bonzo's Birthday Party 5/31/73 and or 6/3/73 which is a better performance but an inconsistent tape fidelity wise. Kezar Stadium 6/2/73 is also one of their best shows from that tour, definitely worth having.

2/28/75 Baton Rouge is great especially the first 2/3rds of the concert. I prefer the audience tape ( Freezer ) , it has tremendous power.

5/18/75 Earl's Court is a monster and one of the best No Quarters, IMO.

More or less!

It's worth having something from Feb 75. Any/all of the 12th-16th Feb boards are worth having. 13th is probably the best gig, but they're all good in their different ways.

I'll make a plea too for 27th April 1977, get the Dr Who remaster. it's not a flawless show but is a very good listen, and IMO the remastering really helps with the sound.

Same for 30th June 1980, Frankfurt. The Lireondendron (sp?) remaster is the one to get there, much better than the raw board.

Tried to find the Frankfurt '80 show you mentioned many times. No success

All certainly worthwhile to pickup although I'm not sure I'd say essential, Destroyer perhaps due to the significance of the bootleg although its not the only 77 SB anymore and personally I prefer Millard's audience recordings.

You must have  Orlando '71, S.F. '73, Four Blocks in the Snow '75, the first Knebworth show '79 and Frankfort '80.

Also I would recommend Seattle 6/19/72 for the awesome setlist, it doesn't sound great but the show is just crazy good.

I would also add the 79' warm up dates of July 23rd, & 24th to the list. Those two shows were almost flawless gigs aside from the weird fuck up Page did while trying to execute what could possibly be one of the easiest solos he has put to record: The horrible screw up of the MMH solo on the 23rd. Other than that both shows were great, though I give the nod to the 24th as that show was flawless and Plant's voice both nights sounded great.

Copenhagen :yesnod:   It's really to bad that the internet has changed collecting so much. I have the vinyls They are beautiful BTW, and having the actual boot is way better than a download.

I am getting my Daughter to search up a few. I did not even know about some of them, Never mind heard them. Going to be mission impossible getting hold of the actual copies. Oh and the small matter of affording them.

Just search for the "Must Hear" bootlegs on this site and then follow the link on there to a site called "Black Beauty" to download the shows. If you have enough storage on your computer, I think this functions as a good start. Of course, you'll run into arguments fans have about whether various shows constitute a "must hear" as well as what label has the best sound quality, but I think this is a good start if you're a "newbie" to unofficial live recordings. I wouldn't be concerned about actually purchasing bootlegs since they can be found via a search of the internet.

I think they did 4 gigs in Denmark that year, which ones did you like most?

Detroit 7/12/73. Look for Antrabata or the Lemon.  Graf has the most recent release but I can't understand why they used an inferior source for most of the show.

Bradford 1/18/73. Godfather (Fragment) . Face melting Dazed , Powerful WLL and the last performance of Immigrant Song.

1973 is loaded with with Fragments that are must have. 7/13 Detroit SBD on Graf , Going Down on Watch Tower features my favorite WLL's. And Scorpio s Soundboard Platter is some of the heaviest Zep you'll ever hear.

Recently I found a net source for 3/17 and 3/19/73. Despite the title, The Fourth Reich, I believe these to be the definitive releases of those incredible shows. For the SBD portion its clear they tapped Scorpio's SBD Platter but the matrix is impressive. Its on Black Beauty but last I looked disc 2 was missing from one or both. I can burn the entire shows and mail them to you.

There is A LOT more but I leave you with 3/12/75. I multi sourced Millard (he was late and captured Stairway and the encores), a new 3 source AUD tape and although it's Mono No Prisoners tonight. This is arguably the best show of the tour. I believe one day a full SBD for this show will drop. Millards portion can be found as !st Gen. Transfer.

All of these shows will cost you nothing to download with the exception of Detroit 7/12/73 but you should be able to put the whole show together for free.

Black Beauty has so much music on it but it's all mp3 format. Lossless is a better format or the real silvers

I like your list. It's not filled with the usual suspects. Despite Earls Court, Vancouver Montreux etc. being must haves I like to see that people are enjoying some of the great Audience Recordings.

What would you say is the definitive  version/ label for the Düsseldorf  70 show.

I ripped one from the web that is Net Sourced (possibly  but I forgot the origin. This was sampling a handful. My "boot ears" are pretty tolerant but Im wondering if there is something that would be more enjoyable and easier  on the ears..
