Beholder
Hi, everyone. My name is Terri, and I am brand new to the forum. I have already introduced myself in the "Meet and Greet" forum. I have a question about a lyric in "Stairway to Heaven." I was hoping to find it on the main site, under "Discography,'' but that was no help. Anyway, it is the use of the word, "soul'' vs "sole." The following line is: "Our shadows are taller than our souls." Now, someone told me that it is "SOLE," like the soles of your feet. I had always thought it was "soul." Help? Thanks in advance. I mean No Offense by this but it is "Souls". The whole concept of the lyrics to "Stairway to Heaven" is that it was meant to be ambiguous and Robert Plant wanted everyone to "decipher" what they wanted and willed the words to be to fit their own interpretation, I have My own interpretations of the words to this "Epic" song, but I prefer to not share them because I do not want to start any controversy. (Let's just say that I think that the whole Song and meaning are what Jimmy and Robert wanted and that was off the Occultic leanings, even way back in 1971 when the such matter were still not really known- and still not really known to this day). Nah, it's about sole (fish) in part about getting the best deal at the fish market. In fact, the working title was Salmon to Heaven.

That is what I told this fool, but he wouldn't listen. I have always believed it was "souls." LOL Thanks
john55555
There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold... This world of illusion. And she's buying a Stairway to Heaven... Basically she's using drugs to get high and close to Heaven. When she gets there she knows if the stores are all closed with the words you can get what she came for... buy another shot. Buy another hit. Predictable result.. There's a sign on the wallBut she wants to be sure'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings... when you seek the truth you find a sign on a tree in the forest. Signs everywhere. Pointing in different directions. That's usually the experience when you your experience when you seeking the truth. In a tree by the brookThere's a songbird who singsSometimes all of our thoughts are misgiving. the Songbird touching her emotions. Creating the longing for her to home. Some guilt and remorse. The Seeds of Doubt has been planted. There's a feeling I getWhen I look to the westAnd my spirit is crying for leavingIn my thoughts I have seenRings of smoke through the treesAnd the voices of those who standing looking.. the longing of her soul intensifies. Maybe her first taste of some spiritual experience from the past. And it's whispered that soon, If we all call the tuneThen the piper will lead us to reasonAnd a new day will dawnFor those who stand longAnd the forests will echo with laughter... the beginning of spiritual practice. The piper the teacher. Standing long... Spiritual practice. Still the body still the mind. First experience of spiritual Bliss. If there's a bustle in your hedgerowDon't be alarmed nowIt's just a spring clean for the May queenYes, there are two paths you can go byBut in the long runThere's still time to change the road you're onAnd it makes me wonder. Bustle in your Hedgerow. Shedding the ego is a painful process. But it's the only way for spiritual progress. The May Queen.. the inner radiant form that will come. Two paths.. it's a difficult path. Sometimes you're on the narrow path sometimes you fall off the path. What time is irrelevant. How many lives have we been here? Your head is humming and it won't goIn case you don't knowThe piper's calling you to join himDear lady, can you hear the wind blowAnd did you knowYour stairway lies on the whispering wind... reference to the inner audible life stream. The sound. The word. It's enticing it pulls the soul upwards. Beautiful words. And as we wind on down the roadOur shadows taller than our soulThere walks a lady we all knowWho shines white light and wants to showHow everything still turns to goldAnd if you listen very hardThe tune will come to you at lastWhen all are one and one is allTo be a rock and not to rollAnd she's buying the stairway to heaven. Shadows taller than our soul.. ego is the shadow. I think therefore I am. The human condition. She's now spiritually Awakened. She wants to share that. And 2 teach. Spiritual practice is hard. You have to listen hard. To be a rock and not to roll.. to hold what's true. Not the shadow. when all our one and one is all.. the universal truth of the spirit. And she's buying... reference back to what where she was at the beginning of the song. The most beautiful spiritual song. Surely god directed Robert Plant pen.
