kakdaddy
Oooops! Sorry about it getting "Scrunched" in the last categories, it was not intended. Hope it's still readable.
Evster2012
Yeah, I remember the 70s. Creem could make you laugh hystrically and piss you off all at the same time!
kakdaddy
Yeah, I remember the 70s. Creem could make you laugh hystrically and piss you off all at the same time! I was going through my older brothers' old CREEM magazines today. I remember reading them when they came out. I'm 35, my brother's 43. We always argue about music when I visit him. Anyway, I was re-reading them, laughing about how divided things were. The letters page are hysterical! You either loved Zeppelin or you hated them, the same with anything punk. The captions under the pictures, I could see how either "side" would laugh or would be extremely offended. Great magazine.

Yeah, I remember a few, lol! Jimmy and Robert onstage arm in arm with a quote like an ageing Page is escorted across the street by Robert Plant. Jimmy getting off the helicopter at Knebworth with Patricia with a caption like :Feed him enough cookies and he'll fowwlow you anywhere" And of course "Which twin has the Toni"! :hysterical" A typical example:
Joelmon
What's crazy is that they list KISS as worst group of 1979....then they list them as 3rd best for the decade ! And then of course the Zep contradictions. But I certainly agree about the KISS -most pathetic and worst group awards though...along with the Bee Gees and disco ! YUCK !!!! Thing is...all of it is so mainstream......only semi-unusual band/artist mention is Jean-Luc Ponty. I loved the early 70s Creem..but they got rather sucky toward the late 70s.. I have to admit that as a child I discovered rock by way of KISS. I was into comic books and horror films, and they crossed me over. That subsequently brought Zeppelin onto my radar. I have to thank them for that!

Joelmon
I have to shower my accolades on Chubby Checker and The Twist !!! My sister had him before the Beatles came out. She also had stuff like Connie Francis, Pat Boone and Frankie Avalon....but I picked Chubby for my intro to ROCKIN' music ! I hedge that Creem woulda tore him a new hole ! Melanie_72
Interesting poll results. Funny how they had Zeppelin in some categories as the best and then the worst in others, LOL! When I first started listening to rock and roll music, I remember reading Creem alot.
FireOpal
I loved Creem -- read every issue from 1980 til it (first) went under in 1988. It was a great way to learn about all the new bands. The silly captions were the icing on the cake. I remember they had a photo of a dishevelled-looking Page when he got arrested in a London tube station saying to the cop "Good lord guv'nor, 'squeeze me lemons'??" Guess you had to be there... It was a very divisive mag though, as people here have noted. You couldn't like "new wave" AND heavy metal; that was ideologically unsound. Yes - the BEST caption I can remember word for word until this day. It was in a picture of Pagey with the double neck and read "Even the most recondite anti-Zeppelin forces cannot deny the fact that Page "talked to God" during his solo in Stairway to Heaven" I used to go round quouting this to mates and family all the time!!! I've never bothered to look up the meaning of the word recondite but I can guess! That was the worst and funniest of Creem I thought!!
