What, no Redbacks!?

Lots of spiders around here lately. Just in the past few days, i've already had a funnel web, 3 huntsmen/tarantula's and various other random spiders.

Must be the dry winter and early spring warmth we're having.

So be on the look out, my fellow Aussie arachnophobes!

Eastern State Aussie's. Tomorrow is supposed to be the hottest October day on record. Stay cool!

Temp please WC? It's pretty Autumnal here I can tell you. We have had glorious late summer weather the last few weeks but a northerly is set to blow for a few days and in contrast to you lot down there, a northerly is nothing but cold :freezing:

Maids of The Mountains

(anonymous)

In the wild Weddin Mountains there live two young dames

Kate O'Meally, Bet Mayhew are their pretty names;

These maids of the mountains are bonny bush belles,

They ride out on horseback, togged out like young swells.

They dressed themselves up in their brothers' best clothes,

And looked very rakish as you may suppose,

In the joy of their hearts they chuckled with glee -

What fun if for robbers they taken should be .

Just then the policemen by day and by night,

Were seeking Frank Gardiner, the bushranger sprite;

Bold Constable Clark wore a terrible frown,

And thought how Sir Freddy by Frank was done brown.

They sought for the 'ranger, but of course found him not,

When suddenly Katy and Betsy they spot;

'By Pott!' shouted Clark, 'that is Gardiner I see!

The wretch must be taken - come boys, follow me.'

'Stand!' shouted the bobbies in accents most dread,

'Or else you will taste our infallible lead.'

But the maids of the mountains just laughed at poor Clark,

And galloped away to continue their lark.

The troopers pursued them and hot was the chase,

'Tis only in Randwick they go at such pace;

Clark captured the pair, then to show his vexation,

He lugged them both off to the Young police station.

The maids of the mountains, the joke much enjoyed

To see their brave captors so sadly annoyed;

Next day they still smiled as they stood in the dock;

Their awful position their nerves did not shock.

But Constable Clark did not look very jolly,

He had no excuse for such absolute folly;

He admitted the girls were just out on a spree,

And hoped that His Worship would set them both free.

And so the farce ended of Belles versus Blues,

Which caused no grerat harm and did much to amuse;

But the Burrangong bobbies will place in their cells,

No more maids of the mountains, the bonny bush belles.

nb. Kate O'Meally's brother was one of Ben Halls gang members.

My thoughts, prayers and wishes are with those people affected by the current bushfires west of Sydney and also east coast NSW.

Terrible, tragic and devasting fires!

My selfish prayers are with my brother, who is a Sydney firefighter out there fighting those fires.

A FIREMAN'S LEGACY

My father is a fireman,

He used to respond to calls,

Now he just sits at home and does nothing at all.

He says the department is full of crap,

And are all egotistical and have too much pride,

When I know deep down he loves to ride.

Finally the day comes where the pager beeps,

There seems to be a fire in the barn holding some sheep,

He says this could be a good one and gets up to leave,

Little did I know later, I would grieve,

Once he arrived on scene there was fire through the roof,

“Surround and Drown” yelled the captain,

But that was not my father’s gut reaction,

Soon they heard screaming coming from inside,

There seems to be a child and apparently still alive.

He struggled with his SCBA until he heard the familiar beep,

Got down on his knees and began to creep,

Soon he spotted the child under some burning hay,

But this was no time to start yelling “yay!"

For there was a hiss off in the distance,

This he knew from experience was a propane line,

And it would blow if he did not get out on time.

He undid his coat and removed his tank,

And gave it to the child so he did not die,

The fire at this time was raging and wild,

He tucked the child under his arm,

So the falling timbers would do him no harm,

As he scrambled to the window to throw the kid out.

All of a sudden the whole house flashed,

My father knew it he was trapped,

No air, No protection, the end was near,

But he still heard the hissing and that was clear,

The barn was gonna blow, but could he make it on time?

He fought with god, please be kind,

He knelt on his knees and began to pray,

He prayed for the child, he had just saved,

And prayed for the house begging it not to cave,

He looked around and noticed the corrosion,

Before he knew it, there was an explosion.

As I kneel down at his grave,

I cannot imagine what he went through,

To save the stranger he never knew.

It was a rather bold of me,not quite bold enough to tell the wife until I had the cash in my wallet.

Twenty $5 notes which was good,I was expecting coins.

Yeah,always better to keep the lady happy.

Surely your mate wouldn't have stiffed you with coins? :D

I knew a girl once that borrowed $30 from a mutual friend and then had a falling out with him,so she paid him back the $30 in 1 & 2 cent coins.

Nasty.
