  1. "Trickier than a robbers dog" LOL." I usually go with the Collectors Review site but AA has proved reliable on inquiries. Passing on this one. Flagge is very hard to find but it is the definitive issue IMHO. Godfather is a let down but if adjust your EQ you can enjoy it.
  2. Thank you Sue. I really like your ear. Not in a Van Gogh way but you know what I mean. You should really "go for it". I can see your tapes being popular on a larger scale. TY
  3. Wow, I find the notion of doing my own Mixed or Masters intriguing but I can barely boot up. So , I ll just stick to listening to these and the others. I think they are great!! Would downloading them for personal listening be OK ?
  4. Just finished Texas 8/31/69. What a show. Jimmy is on fire!! Godfather is a great tape but I listen to The Nobs version more often. I m not sure on the sourcing but it sounds as good as Texas Blues and Texas International Pop by Liquid Led but less clicking. Whiskey A Go Go up next!! 1969 is short on material but Plants voice is just insane. And Jimmy is just so fluid and tight. JPJ s bass sound never sounded better. Did he use the Rickenbacher in 69 or maybe a fuzz effect? The lows on the bass tracks really sound incredible.
  5. I agree with EAPs Blueberry Hill being the definitive version of that show. Before that I listened to Winston's " The Great Love Affair" and before that TMOQs take on the show. EAP and Graf Zeppelin have been releasing some of the best boots I've heard . The later Godfather titles can also be included in that statement. Zepster was good enough to explain how these companies are focusing on quality and an authentic sound. As I stated in other posts I like to buy as many boots as I can for my collection . I recently purchased Graf's Fractured Ribs, it's a " raw " SBD of Texas 5/18/73. Graf also used the fragment from the 5/16 show to finish off the show since the 5/18/73 encores are not on the SBD. I LOVE the raw sound and wonder if this is what a bonafide low generation SBD tape sounds like ? Edit to say I agree Hampton 71 is awful. Hoping that Graf ( or anyone) can do that one some justice. It's a great fragment.
  6. Jane's Addiction and Halloween seems like a great time! Looking forward to your 3/3/75 review. I'm wondering what "new" release followed this show, I think it may have been the Tarrant County 77 SBD. That was a great release but not so much to have totally overshadowed a great '75 SBD and an even better show .
  7. I cant believe this release came and went without much fanfare. It's actually pretty hard to find for purchase. For me, it holds up very well against most of the later 3/75 shows like LA and Vancouver. The 3/5 Days Confused on EV is another Texas '75 show that doesn't get it's props. IMO , It's one of the best from the entire tour. The newer EV releases are all mastered by the WTH Twins with great results. Right now I'm listening to Motor City Daze 7/12/73 on Antrabata. But I'm definitely putting 3/3/75 & 3/5/75 on deck.
  8. Wow, That s pretty cool. I always assumed Godfather (or the people that would come to start GF) had gotten those tapes somehow. They eventually did use all that material on their label. I remember reading an article in which Jimmy didn't really mind Bootleg Concerts . I assumed he meant AUD sources, not the Soundboards that had been stolen from him. He made a point to say that stolen Studio Outtakes and Rehearsal tapes is what really bothered him. "With the shows you bought your ticket and , hey, it's fair game" I cant remember the rest verbatim but the latter (stealing outtakes and rehearsals) was just outright thievery. He made a great point.
  9. http://starship.jpn.ph/zeppelin/beauty/disp/pic.jsp?R_IDX=../../imagesB/SP-005B.jpgd This has Dancing Days and What Is and What Should,,, I'm not sure of the dates. I have not heard of a SBD for Moby Dick.
  10. Playing Dazed 4/2/73. Great version the tape not so much. I love the 75 and 77 NQs . Pre- 75 they were pretty consistent. The playing was real tight. The unadulterated SRS version recorded 7/27/73 is my favorite early NQ. I love the heavy Zep of the first few months of 73. Jimmy and Bonzo were locked. JPJ was intuitive and solid as always. Those heavy jams never made it to a US show. Landover 75 is pretty heavy as is 4/28/77 but nothing ever came close to Europe 73. Starting in 75 is when NQ became almost as improv as Dazed. No two the same. I like the jazzy ones but the boogie jam from 6/7/77 and 6/23/77 are my absolute favorites. I can't do 20 + minutes of Moby Dick. I do enjoy the shorter versions and Pats Delight. Dazed is just so good over the years. For me 3/27/77 is just too long and doesn't go anywhere. Seattle 3/21/75 is nearly as long but just so interesting and the For What It's Worth interlude is moving and dark. I would have loved to see that live. From the Dazed videos I've seen it had to be an awesome experience. Enjoy
  11. That was a great run too. But what followed was legendary. The Baton Rouge show has a great AUD tape. I like it as much as the great SBD. Listening almost nothing but Dazed and Confused 69-73. Trying to find the 5 best. 1/14/73 Liverpool on Godfather right now. The SBD is one of the worst. But it's a great performance
  12. New BBC disc one. I really love the sound. I'm so happy the overdubs , for the most part , where done in 69. Picked up LED ZEPPELIN DAY BY DAY by Marc Roberty. All about the music. Great insight on the BBC recordings. And every other release . It doesn't go much in to Boots but the author does make it known what is out there and dates worth seeking out .
  13. I heard a number of overdubs and have probably missed some. I only listened all the way through once. I thought I heard a portion of two guitars playing. I love the sound. I programmed the tracks from the 4/1 71 broadcast. Sounded amazing , better than the L'Olymia Show from The Zep 1 reissue. The missing WLL medley portions don't bother me so much. I feel in love with the tape without them . Still would have been nice. Im going to give all three discs another real good listen later. I hope the overdubs aren't too. From what I did hear it's not like the Franken Show 6/25/72 release. As great as the sound is I don't play it at all. Are the new disc releases considered SD CD ? The Stones and Bowie Remasters seem to have a bit more sonic clout. With Zep the new vinyl is on par with anything.
  14. Lol. I forgot about this. I bought the DVD too. I don't know how I missed that version of Rain Song on the disc but it's beautiful. No luck on the book but Argent Astrum has been pretty much on the money although I'd like more detail . Bought a bunch of Vinyl at a Flea Market and link was very helpful. Thank you.
  15. Vienna, 3/16/73 Remains Of The Holy on TDOLZ. I read a "definitive "copy of this show is due to drop. Supposedly all derived from Audience sources. Has anyone heard of a new audience source being found?
  16. Yep. The last 1/4 of that show rocked. After Jimmy got hit with the firecracker the whole band woke up. Excellent AUD recording too. 6/25/77 is my favorite. I must be missing out on o2. Listened only 2x But I agree with the sentiment , Kashmir without Bonzo is tough. Kashmir isn't as bottom heavy as Levee or as complex as some of the drum tracks on ITTOD but all in all I think it's Bonzos best work. Glastonbury 95 is a great version augmented by the fantastic orchestra. I love cranking that one up. The orchestra is so clear.
  17. Im with you. . The London 4/1/71 broadcast (aside from being a completist ) is the main reason I was looking forward to this release. It sounds fantastic , definitive for sure. The sequencing is the only fly in the ointment.. I had initially intended on buying the CD and LP versions but will probably pass on the vinyl now. The CD (s) could be programmed to play the show in proper sequence . Not the Vinyl. The other thing is that it lists the London 71 as being recorded on 4/1 and broadcast that evening. My Last Stand set notes it was recorded on the 28th of March. Im guessing the BBC would know better?
  18. Madison Square Garden 2/12/75. TSP Vinyl Very underrated audience source. Bought sight unseen and prayed it wasn't an "Artie" If I counted I probably have this show in more versions that any other. Excluding 6/21/77.
  19. LOL, Strider. For most 94 I was not in the States and in a place that I can safely say Robert and Jimmy on MTV was unknown and the very least, never mind. This MTV special is different from the No Quarter disc ? I was never a video guy. I own TSRST on VHS and an unopened Blu-ray version, The 2003 issue, The Wall and Bowie's Ziggy Finale on DVD (a gift) .That's my video collection. The 94 stuff doesn't have the same appeal as 96 & 98 ESPECIALLY . Jimmy was on fire and I prefer The Clarksdale tracks live . I listened to No Quarter 5x including when I bought the remaster. 95 Glastonbury is a show I really like and tacked that Rain Song on my download for disc to follow The Song Remains the Same. SRS without Rain Song is like cornflakes without milk. Next stop u-tube. Unledded MTV special. Thanks I will rip the audio. By the way, I am a very fortunate man and envy is a rare emotion but that vinyl has me green as an Avocado. Spectacular! My knowledge of Bootleg Vinyl is something I am trying to expand along with my collection of Vinyl. Can you recommend a source (preferably a book to reference and eventually commit to memory) that correlates CD Titles with their Vinyl counterparts ? I'm starting off with the staples LA, Seattle, New York in 180-200 (if possible) I do not want to make costly mistakes .
  20. Stumbled across this. It's from 94 but it is just beautiful. Jimmy playing acoustic throughout and being backed by the orchestra for the transition doesn't take away from the songs power. What a beautiful piece. I don't know it's origin but I listened to Thank You from the same but Jim DOES NOT have his chops back , circa 98.
  21. Its a shame they were very hot. 6/2/73 is perhaps my favorite non -Millard AUD tape. Godfather used the entire AUD source for 'A Celebration Of Being...". Despite an excellent SBD fragment. I don't even listen to the SBD fragment. But the 6/3 tape may well have been better . As I understand it the tape was damaged causing it to "wobble" and some other issues. Apparently there isn't a way to fix the tape to match the quality of the encores. The tapers seem to have done fine. I tried cobble this show using Winston , Three Days After and some Net Sourced material. But in the end I just end up listening to Wipe side 3. Shame. If I'm not mistaking the Tapers did 6/2 as well as bunch of Grateful Dead shows and Bill Graham knew them and knew they were taping. I may have that part mixed up but the tape was definitely damaged. Just did a double check on CMS before sending this post
  22. No drinking for a week , had surgery this AM (some hardware removed from my leg). I was in a lot of pain until my prescription was ready. Not so much now. At all. I may put up those sound baffles after all. This evenings menu. Just playing side three from TSRTS. Nn
  23. I didn't go for the Super Deluxe on any of them. I bought all the vinyl without the companions with the exception of Coda I bought the 3 record set. I bought CD's with and without the companions. The non-companion CDs I intend to keep sealed. The Companion CD sets are great for making comparisons. Eg, I can set up the initial CD release the box release from 93, the 97 RMs and the newest editions along with the alternate tracks. I have fun listening to the changes. I also bought the Itunes downloads for my ipod. This time around I will certainly buy the vinyl then go from there. I just finished listen to 3/19/69 it can certainly use some work but I never played the disc a lot in the years Ive owned it. It will take a few more spins to really decide if I'm excited. I grabbed Tampa 4-7-70 too for some reason and that one would be great if Jimmy worked on it. My favorite SIBLY.
  24. I'm excited but a little leery as well. If The Album gets the total overhaul it's going to sound incredible ! But I'm afraid of it being cut up like L'Olympia 10/10/69 did on the LZ 1 reissue. Heartbreaker got shredded including full minute of Jimmy soloing pfft....gone and you can hear the cut and it really sounds like it went off to thin air. Other cuts too. It seems like they are adding on the Lost BBC tapes aired from London 3/19/69 and a couple of other mono tracks. I have "Anyone Got A Les Paul?" (Jimmy had Guitar Trouble) on Equinox and it's not anything special. This is also referred to as the Lost BBC Tapes on some other label and EV has these tracks on their BBC Zep (I think). Equinox was naturally the cheapest option because all I really wanted was "Sunshine Woman". My "Go To" BBC 4/1/ 71 is part of is the BBC sessions by Last Stand Disc set. 5 discs and it has White Summer from the Julie Felix Show. I like it better because it's complete and unedited (of Course). The main attraction is the "remastered" Pre- FM Concert recorded in late March of 71 and aired April 1st 71. The Last Stand Remaster IMO sounds better than the Official release, it's not compressed or heavily EQ'd (they claim no EQ whatsoever). I grew up listening to the post broadcast tape and loved it. So I'm not bothered listening to the edited show but Last Stand sounds more raw and powerful. But now with Jimmy spinning those dials and a complete overhaul you know it's going to sound awesome! I'm hoping the 4/1/71 show sounds as good as the 10/10/69 show does on the companion disc. But I'm always afraid of what will end up on the cutting room floor....not so much about unwelcome additions like on HTWWW. That 3/19/69 Lost BBC show has been around a long time and is really nothing to write home about. I'm hoping the 4/1/71 show sounds as good as the 10/10/69 show does on the companion disc. The mono tracks don't excite me.
  25. What's funny is when you mentioned live Zep it dawned on me that since the reissues came out I seldom listen to any studio stuff. I play the companion disc from the Fourth Record pretty consistently. I want to learn the nuances of the alternate mixes like I know my name. Last night I opened my vinyl Houses Of the Holy reissue and was thinking how much NQ had evolved. The irony is that by 77 some of the songs in their canon had peaked already or in the case of SIBLY should have been retired. But with NQ I think 77 is where it's at . From 77, my favorites are 4/28, 6/11, 6/23 but for the most part a bad version doesn't jump out. Unlike so many Dazed and Confused live versions through the years NQ never seems to drag or build up only to fall flat. For most tours there is a few favorite songs for me and for 77 No Quarter is the highlight of more shows than not. By 77 Jimmy was prone to having an off night than ever before but when he is on , No Quarter circa. 1977 is some of the best live Zep ever.
