From the January 2013 issue of Guitar World

Guitar World: So why haven't there been more shows [after the 02 concert]? Is it because Robert Plant doesn't want to be involved?

Jimmy Page: From a concert like that, you would have thought that there might have been some sort of whisper or hint about another gig over here or over there, for maybe very, very good reasons - you know, charitable causes or whatever. Well, there wasn't. That's it. That's all I can tell you. I wouldn't expect that there would be any more concerts, really.

Guitar World: Which is sad.

Jimmy Page: Well, it is what it is, isn't it? So under those circumstances, when it was getting in three and a half years after the concert, I thought, We've got to pay some attention to this show. I've gotto look at the footage and just go in, in an objective way, with a really positive attitude of knowing that we did a really great show, and that Jason Bonham had played marvelously. His father would have been so proud of him. And that was the way to go in and look at the 02.

Guitar World: But weren't there plans to form another band with a different singer and go on tour?

Jimmy Page: No. You see, what we did - doing all of the rehearsals - was not to play any new stuff, not to get sidetracked. After it was done, Jason, myself and John Paul Jones felt it was the right thing to do to go in and start playing new material and see how we were getting on. I thought that, really, we should play on our strengths and start working on quite a lot of music. We had a few things together, but Robert had his Alison Krauss project to promote. There was talk about bringing in some other singers, but that would have changed the character of what we were doing, and done it rather suddenly. There was a lot of...I won't say pressure but a lot of hinting about "this singer and that singer." And for me, it was more about, "Let's see what we can really do." But I don't think we really got a chance to do that.

Guitar World: So it would have been too early at that point?

Jimmy Page: To do what? Bring in a singer on it? Yes. I think we needed to work on the material first and all the various sorts of textures and moods that we could create. But that wasn't to be either.

Guitar World: Everybody thought you would replace Robert with another singer and go on a Led Zeppelin reunion tour. That is obviously a misunderstanding then.

Jimmy Page: Well, look: even if we had eventually settled on a singer, I think it would have been premature to go on tour. Of course, we would have played Led Zeppelin material, but I would also want to be playing some really, really good new material as well, to knock people's socks off.

Guitar World: Is that ever going to happen?

Jimmy Page: I don't think so. I don't think so. I know that I certainly want to be... Let's put it this way: This time last year I intended to be actually playing by now in a live outfit. [laughs] So that will have to be postponed now into sort of next year, tail end of next year. But I definitely want to be doing that.

What bullshit. Everybody? Only everybody who didn't have a brain would have assumed that.

This was nothing but a rehash of the same ol' shit. If this is representative of the kind of interviews in this current issue, then it doesn't appear to be worth plunking money down for; certainly not going to buy it for the cover.

I haven't seen the issue yet and luvlz 2 didn't say who did the interview with Jimmy, but if it was Brad Tolinski, he's slipping.

I think this is edited version of interview which surfaced a few weeks ago.

The other thing besides the cover for that latest Guitar World- that irked me was the wrong photo and dates for the photos etc.

The pic labeled as Madison Square Garden June 1, 1977 is actually June 14.

The one labeled as Los Angeles 1972 is actually 1973 and the other one is LA 1972.

The two pics labeled as Oakland,CA 1977 - only one is Oakland and the other is from Kezar, SF 1973 (Bonzo) and the pic is backwards.

I am going by memory as I don't have my copy with me but just remembered I wanted to say something about this.

Doesn't look like anyone's posted this magazine cover yet...this is the current issue of Metal Hammer:

Looked at it worked today. It's the same stories about them, occult and blaming Jimmy's interest on all the bad stuff that happened. I can't wait for Classic Rock with their real interview. I agree it's a cool cover.

Drumc.jpg

I just bought this book today and read through it twice. It's great. The comments and short interviews with each of these drummers is compelling and exciting. It makes you realize again and again that John Bonham was and will probably always be considered the quissential rock drummer. Some of the write-ups were more informative than others, but all offering good insight into the man who made them want to play drums in the first place. The only thing missing was a lack of photos of John himself. Maybe one or two- the rest were the notes from each player.

Vinny Appice talks briefly about preparing/planning to play the Hammersmith 4 nights back to back and that Iommi told him that Page and Bonham would probably be coming down to guest jam....! That never happened because Bonham dies two months before the shows take place..so Vinny never meets him. Sad stuff but interesting.

Mojo Dec. 2012

634868490733236021.Jpeg

I saw this yesterday at a US Barnes & Noble

It has extensive coverage of Led Zeppelin.

LED ZEPPELIN: As their epochal O2 show emerges on DVD at last, MOJO is granted an exclusive audience with Page, Plant and John Paul Jones, while Jason Bonham, Roy Harper and The Edge relive the gig of a liftetime. “Things can be achieved against impossible odds,” discovers Phil Alexander.

It is such a good one. And I love almost every song on the CD as well.

Rolling Stone Collectors Edition: Led Zeppelin (Winter 2012) (USA)

2012WinterRollingStoneCollectorsEdFrontCover.jpg

2012WinterRollingStoneCollectorsEdBackCover.jpg

Over the last 2 weeks, I've purchased 5 magazines featuring Led Zeppelin. (Mojo, Guitar World, Rolling Stone (2), DRUM/John Bonham) I went searching for THIS one, after it was not found in time for Christmas. The local Barnes and Noble had ONE copy left, and it scooped it up. I have to say that out of all the magazines I purchased- this is a great read. Every page is Led Zeppelin. The entire catalog is discussed, and some in depth topics as well. This is worth every cent, if you are feeling the "Led Zeppelin fever" right now, I suggest you go out and buy this, if you can find it. Even if your not a fan/supporter of Rolling Stone, it's your loss if you don't pick it up.
