Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Not all opinions are created equal.

I'm not completely sold on the decriminalization or legalization of marijuana yet, but there are some really stupid laws in place against people who have used or been caught with pot. A marijuana trafficker can be imprisoned for life (and even killed in some countries), but just recently a man in my state got less than ten years for raping a teenage girl. In many states, people who were convicted of marijuana possession cannot go on welfare or collect food stamps, but convicted murderers and child molesters can.

With the economy showing no signs of recovery is it time to legalize marijuana? The state of California makes over 10 million dollars a year from medicinal dispenseries. Imagine the money that could be made countrywide if it was legalized. We're talking hundreds of millions of dollars generated by sales that would be taxed, not to mention all the jobs created for farmers and people to run the shops.

I always thought one of the biggest reasons for the "war on drugs" (which has been a miserable failure) was that the government wasn't getting their piece of the pie. Instead they want you to take their drugs. The kind that killed Michael Jackson.

It's not a war on drugs, it's a war on personal freedom.

Look at Amsterdam and Vancouver. They don't seem to have a problem. When's the last time you picked up a newspaper and read, "Man smokes weed and goes on massive killing spree"? The answer is never.

I think it's time. The number of annual deaths caused by marijuana=0.

Legalize. Regulate. Educate.

Yes, it should be legal, along with every other drug out there.

The reason why it is a problem is because it's not regulated by the government.

Drugs would not be as valuable if legalized, because they would be more available to the public.

Drug crime is a major business run by unchecked people. There isn't a drug dealer on earth that would want it legalized, and that's because the drugs give them more power and money than if it was taxed and regulated. This is a power that belongs in the hands of the government.

By the way, the "worst" drug that I do is caffeine. I have never smoked a cigarette and I don't drink at all, much less do any hard drugs. I think it's all absolutely stupid to alter your state anything more than caffeine to wake up.

But you know what? Some people want to do it. Some people want to drink or smoke pot or do crack and they should be allowed to.

I know that people want to do what they're told not to do, and that they value things that are not readily available. The real problem is not the drugs themselves, but the people who control them. If you want to fight drug crime, then you need to legalize all drugs.

It's like when a Home Depot (large hardware chain) opens up in your neighborhood, the Ma and Pa hardware store go out of business.

When you can sell something for 10000 times what it costs to make it, then it's impossible to stop it from entering your country.

I too would be in favor of marijuana legalization and making alcohol illegal. Booze destroys far more lives than weed. I also think you should have to be 18 to get a drivers license (imagine all the road fatalities we could avoid by taking dumbass kids from behind the wheel) and I also feel that you should have to be 21 to access porn and tobacco. Having to wait 3 more years is no big deal, it will still be there waiting for you when you turn 21. I'm also kinda surprised that they don't try to lower the legal gambling age of 21 to 18. Each state with casino's can't wait to take your money. That brings me to another point, here in Colorado there is a statewide smoking ban, no smoking indoors anywhere except casinos because they don't want to lose the revenue brought in by the smokers. Can you say double standards?

Kids don't respect the law, and I think the laws end up hurting them more in the end than if they didn't exist.

I would set the drinking, smoking, gambling, porning, and drugging age to 0.

I might only agree with the drivers license age change.

We already tried to make alcohol illegal here is the US and the lesson was that it created more crime and crime lords. Is that what you want?

People want alcohol and drugs for some reason and they are going to find a way to get it. This includes kids.

Making it illegal or delaying the age just makes it that much more interesting to them as they grow up.

I think doing drugs and alcohol is stupid, but forcing people not to do them is worse because it creates another set of problems that are even worse.

Whether you use them or like them has nothing to do with the real problem. I don't like them either and so I don't use them, but that doesn't mean I have a right to force someone not to use them.

I do have a right to tell them not to use them, however.

Make them all legal and discourage their use. Not through regulation, but through culture changing propaganda.

In theory it sounds nice, but the biggest reason I believe it remains to be illegal is not because of stereotypes, but because it threatens the plastics, paper, and various chemical corporations. A lot of companies banded together to prevent the heavy competition from hemp growers.

Yeah, and it'll be better for the environment. I'd rather have hemp being used for making these products than toxic crap that is barely recycled.

[not to be a tree-hugger, but hemp is a much better counterpart to these industries]

YES.

I lived close to the Netherlands for almost 19 years. They seem to have no problems there resulting of the legalisation of weed. Also, there are very strict controls concerning driving under the influence of pot. And there is such a thing as common sense that tells most people not to drive under the influence of drugs like alcohol, weed or certain medication.

I wish it were in Germany like in California - it should at least be legal for medication. A friend of mine suffered from severe anxiety and according to him ocassionaly consuming pot also helped to deal with it, additional to therapy and medication. As a painkiller, it is the better alternative to morphium. (ironically, morphium, which is a stronger drug concerning the effects and addiction potential, is legal for pain medication in Germany)

However, it is more or less decriminalised in most parts of Germany. I'll move to Berlin this week, and there aren't any charges held against you when you don't carry more than 15 grams with you. Everything under that amount is considered for self consumption only, which isn't charged. Basically, one dould walk through Berlin with quite a few plastic bags of weed as long as they don't yell "hey i have weed".

From what I've read and seen from friends Mary Jane actually makes anxiety worse.

It depends a lot on the person. Every psyche is different, so of course people react different to pot. In this case, it helped him. However, one shouldn't smoke it 24/7, some people who developed a habit of pot consumption can develop anxiety as a consequence. Occasional consumption actually can ease anxiety.

Plus the fact it's illegal adds anxiety. "Did you hear something?"......

Each type of pot affects each individual differently. I still can't believe it is illegal and vilified the way it is. Prescription drugs are the biggest problem in today's society, as far as drugs go, at least in the US.

How can anything that cases an addiction be ok but marijuana is not? There is absolutely no physical addiction to marijuana. I'm going to argue that social addiction is not an addiction. You shouldn't be in rehab for smoking herb. I could stop any day of the week if I wanted to and it would be no big deal. No headaches from cravings, no withdrawals, nothing.

Teenagers should stop rolling their cannabis joints with tobacco if they don't want CANCER, researcher warns

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-4581560/Teens-stop-rolling-cannabis-joints-tobacco.html

Ian Hamilton is a weed researcher based at the University of York

Youngsters should smoke the drug on its own to avoid health risks, he claimed

Tobacco is linked to some 17 types of cancer, including lung, throat and bladder

But no such links to the disease have ever been found from smoking the herb

1 hour ago, kipper said:

yesteday a police officer in California was killed by a man driving high on marijuana.

Well, no more weed for him I guess. Only prison swill for the rest of his miserable life.

Another dumbass who can't control themselves ruining several lives in the process, just for a stupid buzz.
