Jimmy Page: "Hoover Nose".

According to one of the books I have read, John Bindon calls Jimmy this because whenever Jimmy entered a room where the others were doing cocaine, Jimmy would come in and snort up a bunch of coke. Hence the name.

Jimmy wasn't given that name because he was ungenerous. In the early days of Led Zeppelin when the band need money for traveling, production etc he was the one fronting the money. Hence "Led Wallet"

Not exactly. Peter Grant secured an advance of $200,000 from Atlantic Records in November 1968 (then the biggest deal of its kind for a new band). Robert Plant and

John Bonham were originally brought into the band on salary. Jimmy's reputation for

being tight with a buck preceded Led Zeppelin. Peter Grant recalled Jimmy contacting him via an international long distance call to discuss the new lineup and said it was

uncharacteristic of him to do something like that at his own expense.

Peter did get that advance from the record company but I read that Jimmy financed the 1st album himself so as to have artistic control and not have the record company remix any tracks. And while Robert and Bonzo got a salary, Jimmy and John Paul did not take any pay for their first tour. They saw that as a financial investment that would have a payoff later. " Led Wallet" was coined and given to Jimmy because of his thrifty ways. A hold over habit from his Yardbird days when the were lucky to take home a decent check after everyone else took their cut. Peter did knock those practices up side down.

Didn't Richard Cole (ugh) say that the members of the band in the early daze would refer to Jimmy as "the old lady," because he (not Robert) spent so much time in the mirror trying to get his hair 'just right'?

The old girl. ;) But they never said that directly into his face.
