Movie : Yojimbo

Director : Akira Kurosawa

Actor : Toshiro Mifune, Tatsuya Nakadai, Yoko Tsukasa

One of the greatest asiatic movies and samurai movies

I started a Kurosawa campaign years ago but never finished it. Ran is my favorite, I was slightly disappointed in Kagemusha. I think Throne Of Blood will be my next one.

Yep, that's a great movie.

We watched 'Canadian Bacon' last night. Never saw it before and it was hilarious, especially the scene with Steven Wright. So many funny scenes though. 😆

"Throne of Blood" is absolutely one of Kurosawa's best. Greatest "Macbeth" film adaptation ever. Better than Polanski's. Better than Welles'. What's fascinating is that technically the film never quotes Shakespeare's exact dialogue but it gets the story and mood so exactly right. Isuzu Yamada, who plays the Lady Macbeth character, is unforgettable.

It's a 4th of July ritual at the American Cinematheque and it always draws a packed house...and a surprising percentage of first-timers. The very definition of a "summer movie".

Quint is a character for the ages and his U.S.S. Indianapolis monologue is still my favourite scene. Only glitch...Robert Shaw got the date wrong. It was July 29, 1945 when they delivered the bomb, not June 29. But I give ol' Shaw a pass as he was hammered to the gills when they shot this scene.

Indeed. That is why it was part of the New England Nightmares series at the Cinematheque. 😏

Damn. Josh Brolin is making a lot of movies lately. Every time I look he's got a new one coming out. Just saw his latest...Benecio Del Toro is great in it, too. Makes me glad I don't work at the border.

This one started out pretty funny, but then it just got weird and silly. Like it was trying too hard to be like "Get Out".

Saw a sneak preview of this last night. Tom Cruise saves the world again (with interesting interrogation tactics involving Wolf Blitzer) and breaks his ankle on a stunt in the process. Great summer popcorn action movie. You'll enjoy it and probably forget it in a month.

A 3D Film Festival started this month. Sure, most of these are cheesy and need to be watched with tongue-in-cheek but they are still more fun than your average CGI-overload crap today.

The fest began for me with this one...which also happened to be the first movie I ever saw in 3D.

Yes, a majority of films at any 3D festival will be horror movies. The last 10 minutes of "The Maze" however, are irrevocably hilarious.

This last one was not cheesy. It actually was quite good. To my fellow vets IpMan and redrum, I think you'll both find it interesting to watch. No actors...Hal Wallis used actual soldiers.

Is this the Italian version with subtitles?
La dolce vita is my favorite Fellini, too. It's very nonchalant, stylish and cool but you can feel the emptiness and lonleyness in every character. And I love the soundtrack

Natch. I only watch foreign movies in their original language with English subtitles. Unless a dubbed version is the only option available. Fortunately, the Cinematheque shows respect for cinema and always gets the best print available.

Yes, Nino Rota's score is a delight. Alas, poor Marcello...just go to the girl at the beach Marcello! Leave that old crowd behind. Get your feet wet and cross over the beach.

But no...he always throws his hands up in resignment and shuffles back to the vampires.

Please let me know if you see Meg?  There is another movie out I wish to see but cannot for the life of me remember the name.  I always liked Jason Stratham.  He is in Meg I hear?  Its going to be a Jurassic Pk type of deal.  Keep an open mind.

I had a chance to see "Meg" last week when the Cinematheque sneak previewed it along with "Jaws 3D". But I had a friend in town all week and that was the same night she was taking me to see ELO at the Forum, so no dice.

Yes, Jason Statham is in it, along with Dwight Schrute from The Office...Rainn Wilson. The people I know who have seen it say it's a silly movie so don't expect much...think of it like the Sharknado movies or "Snakes on a Plane". Only one outright HATED it.

Throw a couple of other new movie titles at me? I just cant think of the one I want to see.  Actually, I will go look at my local Regal to see what is in town. You are in the big city so you probably get them a bit faster.  I have to go to NY City soon.  My daughter is having a baby.  But does not want visitors the first couple of weeks.  I might book in Hoboken and then hit Sandy Hook.

Couldn't find what I wanted but Equalizer 2 might be worth a watch?  But sequal's usually suck.  Unless its the Godfather or even Die Hard.  Speaking of which, what is up with all of these anniversary movies?  They just beat a dead horse don't they?  Squeeze the almighty buck out of all of us.

Equalizer 2 is pretty decent, although I still prefer the TV show version.

You gotta see the new Mission Impossible movie...Fallout! It's a really good summer popcorn action movie!

And "Sicario - Day of the Soldado" is excellent. Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro kick ass.

Mrs Walter took junior and some neighborhood kids to Meg last Thursday while I was watching the Cowboys game at home with some friends. They all seemed to enjoy it.
