If you're going to tour the States in Jan-Feb, at least start on the West Coast and then by the time you arrive to the midwest and eastern dates, it's closer to spring time and everyone's not trudging through snow. Looking at recent setlists, I am saddened to note that Silver Rider has gone missing. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add Silver Rider to the setlist when you play the Greek in L.A., Mr. Plant!!!! Juliet Posted February 19, 2011 Share Posted February 19, 2011 I realize that two inches of snow should not normally be a big deal, however the timing of this weather event created a perfect storm-type situation with traffic flow. At 3:00pm, there was no snow in sight. At 3:30 the snow came in fast and hard, with over an inch falling in the first hour. Nashville is not a mass-transit city, so office workers ran for their cars and attempted to go home around 4:00pm. Mass traffic jams ensued, and the snow plows were unable to get through the traffic to clear the roads of snow. The Interstates were at a standstill, the back roads and shortcuts were all clogged, and nobody went anywhere. Most middle Tennesseans are a bit short on experience driving on snow and ice, and people were abandoning their cars in the middle of highways, which compouded the problem. The normal drive time from my house to the venue is 20 minutes. It took me 2 hours and 30 minutes to get there. It took patience and a full tank of gas, but the band members and their family members and friends also experienced similar driving conditions. I did not notice that many empty seats, so I think the majority of ticket holders probably made it ok if they were willing to put forth the effort. And for the record, the driver that drove Plant from the hotel to the venue informed the world via Twitter that it took the Golden One two hours to get through the traffic. I think this is all much ado about nothing. Greetings from the Great White North... Ah...yes...snow glorious snow...NOT!!!!! What you are describing is a frequent occurence up here in Canada during winter..even more frequent when one lives in a snowbelt...and the winds come off the lake creating snowsqualls and white-out conditions..I see there's a bad storm heading this way on Sunday...start planning now...get food in..have gas in car...etc etc Oddly enough there have been many artists bring their tours through Canada during winter..I believe one country artist (Dierks Bentley) had a snow plough drive ahead of his entourage to clear the way . Another (Axl Rose) was just lucky as the winter was mild and fairly tame when his crew passed through these parts.. I guess I would advise Nashville residents to learn from this experience, have a plan for the next time winter rolls around and be prepared as Mother nature is definitely unpredictable now...She really doesn't like what is happening to her planet and Hell hath no fury like Mother Nature.... I think this is all much ado about nothing. HAHA, sounds like Vancouver during a snowy rush hour. We don't usually get the massive amounts of snow that the rest of the country get's but when we do, it usually freezes instantly and packs down making it almost impossible to drive in. I'm going to assume that like us, most people in Nashville have at best, all season tires on their vehicles which in snowy conditions actually make the driving experience even worse than it would be if you were just driving around on summer tires. Personally, I can see how the sudden snowfall caused all kinds of havoc. BTW, when we do get snow in Vancouver, I see licence plates from all over Canada sliding backwards in my general direction. Gigi Posted February 19, 2011 Share Posted February 19, 2011 Most performers have, Hoplant. It would also be an eye opener for fans to see what goes into staging a show. It may look a small set-up to you , but it still requires touring crew, local crew, and an 8 am load-in in most places. This is so true. I had no idea how much went into setting the stage. When I was in Atlanta recently to see Robert, I took a tour of the Fox Theater to see the beautiful place without people in it. The tour started at 10 am and the crew was already hard at work setting things up. It was fascinating (to me anyway). It really made me appreciate all of the hard work that goes into a show. Steve Winwood was also at the Nashville show, along with a few attorneys. Yes, I spoke with Steve, regarding the driving conditions. Everyone in Nashville is pretty friendly. Does anyone know if he will be playing the ACL (Austin City Limits) Festival later this year? It runs from September 16-18. I do recall he played here in 2008 with Alison Krauss and also in 2005 on his Mighty Rearranger tour. This was the one featured on the dvd from 2006. It was from PBS' Sound Stage series. I wonder If someone else in this site will be at this concert....... it would be nice to meet and stay together....... surely we will not have the trouble of the snow!!!!!!! and surely it will be a very good concert....because I like ben harper very much....probably RP will not play all songs he would play if there were only BOJ....but I'm happy to see both these great artists in the same concert.... So you have a common thread woven throughout connecting the past with the present. Jimmy Page should be doing whatever is right for him in the here and now, which may or may not be a repetition of the past. But the only constant thing in life is change, so that's alright. Well said. What the band Of Joy reperesents to me is the rock & roll of the early 60's for the most part. With some more modern sounds thrown in (like the Low material).
