It was clearly meant for me and Livin.

If you feel that I was off topic, then you, as the op could say that I suppose,  but I still feel our conversation was valid. I was simply saying that one thing I find not as good as when I was young, is that men don't look like men anymore, and I hate it.

You can say whatever you like, whatever you feel. As OP I have to accommodate all points of view and reply as necessary to nudge the conversation along, but I am not censoring anyone's right to say what they think.

When I was growing up in the 90's and early 00's, every month, my mom, dad and I used to make it a point, to go on 'family outings', to one or two of these massive 'family stores' which not only sold books, CD's and cassette tapes, but also sold toys, music instruments, cosmetics, jewelry, etc. These stores were so family friendly, that they had everything from 'kids play areas', 'reading corners' (situated among the aisles having books for sale) where both kids and adults, could thumb through interesting looking books, before deciding whether or not to buy the book. The employees used to even give away gift hampers to kids, whose families were regular customers, on special occasions such as birthdays and Christmas. Now, with the advent of online shopping, many of these stores have since, closed down! :(

Also, the stores that remain, have really down-sized (citing an inviable business model, driven by a rising preference of customers to shop online at their own 'convenience') and hence, stock as little as possible, much to the chagrin of shoppers, eager to have a shopping experience like in the good old days! I even came across a sales assistant, cheekily informing an irate customer that even though the book that the customer was looking for, was out of stock at the store, the customer could either purchase a copy at the online version of the store or settle for the 'e-book' version! I think it is really sad that (with the rise of online shopping and consequent closure of 'family driven' stores), families can no longer enjoy a day out, at these wonderful stores, where one could actually browse aisles selling books and music, for hours on end, thereby converting the task of shopping into a fun and memorable family event! Gosh! I really miss the 90's and the early 00's! :(

Album Artwork presentation. Back in the day I used to enjoy the anticipation of opening a new lp and venturing into new sound and vision. New music releases seemed way more intimate and even organic experience for the fans imho. I remember great anticipation for Presence and ITTOD artwork being totally Zepaholic by then, almost as much as for the music itself. The idea that Page personally inscribed inner circles in the early days still evokes a bit of that teenage wonder just thinking about those days waiting :-)

Nowadays I usually just anticipate proper ID tagging.

^ YES! Album artwork!  I was fascinated by the Zeppelin covers, still am. Genius stuff.

Can I add : the taste of fruit and veg..... is it really different, or are my taste buds different with age?

If you are buying them from a regular market then you're probably getting fruit and veggies from a corporate mega-farm that pumps all sorts of chemicals and growth serums inside them, then coats them with wax so they look all shiny and spiffy in the supermarket aisle.

Plus, they pick 'em before they are ripe, so their flavours haven't fully developed.

Home-grown fruits and veggies will invariably taste better than what you get at the store.

I know that. I was actually talking about home grown/market/organic.... I have tried them all, and none of them seem to have that delicious taste any more..... maybe it's me :(

Well, they say our taste buds change as we get older. But I think it's also because the flavours of food have changed over the years. There has been so much meddling by scientists and food doctors, different strains and hybrids being bred, that the tomato we eat today is a far cry from the tomato our great-grandparents ate at the dawn of the 20th century.

Yes, totally agree,  Livin.

And this has zero to do with homophobia, just in case anyone had that idea. I should also say that I hate the way many women dress so trashy these days, too. I love watching old movies from the 30's, 40's, 50's and even the 60's ... the way people used to dress and speak to each other is just beautiful.  I yearn for that..

Two things that I see and hear on this college campus, which are totally unacceptable:

Guys with their asses hanging out their pants all over the place, and in the dorms they wear their boxers or lounge pants also pulled low, so their pubic area is exposed. I'm told their not gay, so who is this for?

Also, the use of words like "bitch" and "ho" to address the girls - which I've never heard another guy or the girl reprimand them about.

I certainly can't do anything about this, for I would loose my job. But years ago, peers would correct this, even if it meant a beating.

I couldn't agree more.  I liked how people used to have better manners in public which today just doesn't seem to exist much at all with everyone so into their phones and such.

You took the words right out of my mouth LIVIN.

I find the trend (among teenage girls and young women in their 20's) of wearing leggings as a substitute for jeans / pants, to be pretty disturbing! I wear jeans for informal occasions and slacks for formal occasions. Hell, I don't even wear track pants while undertaking household chores such as grocery shopping!

oh me too... and even worse when worn with short tops.

I'm afraid I disagree, Robert. I still pine for my '72 Plymouth Valiant. It had a V6, roomy seats, and it looked great. Unless you can afford a luxury model, what you get today is a car that has no acceleration, looks silly, and the way you handle it is dominated by electronics. A lot of people don't realize that if you drive your car into a lake (happens more often than people think) and you have power windows that are closed (all cars today) you will die because the way to get out of a car that is submerged is through the window and once the car is submerged, the power windows won't open. Opening the door will just make it sink faster. As for computers--I am considering sending my Dell laptop from 2007 to be refurbished because the replacement I bought in 2011 is GARBAGE. There has been a serious decline in the quality of products over just the last 3-4 years. I think the slave laborers in China are just tired.

According to Mythbusters,

"You can open a window in a submerged car by using a manual window crank.

*BUSTED*

Using a test weight of 350 lbs (equivalent to pressure differential from just two feet of immersion), the pressure of the window glass against the frame is so great that no amount of effort can move the gear. You are more likely to break the window handle."

Having quoted that, maybe I should have said "technology" as a whole because you're right, sometimes build quality sucks.

That plymouth may have had roomier seats at what? 10 MPG or so? than the adjusted for inflation sticker prices of today's vehicles that would include airbags, better gas mileage and probably air-condition and FM Radio along with power windows.

Still, one must always try to avoid the ponds, lakes and rivers from sea to shining sea but there is no way 2007 computer technology would make 2011 computer technology "garbage"...according to Mr. Moore and his law. Dell's "build quality" could be garbage, but that's another story as there are many other PC manufacturers out there to chose from. Inside any of them, from the flimsy plastic casing to sturdy aluminum chassis you will find some of the best examples of electronics...technology to date.

Robert, please recommend a laptop for me!

I rarely drive, but when I do, I keep the window open...no a/c for me...so my escape would be pretty easy...and the '72 Valiant did have fm radio!

Going back to the younger generation...the fact most young men are porn addicts is having a seriously negative effect on young women. They now feel compelled to give blow jobs to men on a first date because both genders have been brainwashed to believe women are the sexual servants of men...might want to ask your teenage daughters what's really going on...why would young women's clothes surprise us; it goes with the territory...my biggest gripe though is that young people don't want to pay for anything, they expect everything except their Iphones to be for free or for cheap. I guess they make an exception for the Iphones because they believe they would die without them...they don't want to pay for music, they don't want to pay for movies...to think I saved my $1.25 an hour from babysitting in 1977 to buy vinyl albums that cost $9...the inflation adjusted equivalent would be at least $50 bucks today but I thought it was worth it!

If young people in the 70's and 80's could have found a way to get music and or anything else for free, we all would have done it. Technology has helped in that context for those inclined. Me, I'm happy to pay $10 a month to apple for all my old favorites and some new stuff too. I like that cars don't break down as often, information is a click away and thick bushes are a thing of the past. Never did like hair in my food.

We could if we wanted to get music. They were called reel to reel tape and cassette recorders. As for later model cars not breaking down, they still do. The difference is back then home repairs were simpler because engines weren't cluttered with all the bells and whistles (computers and anti pollution gear), they have today and even if mechanics were needed cars were repaired quicker and cheaper thanks to easier access and time saved due to them being able to get to the problem without having to almost dismantle and rebuilding the vehicle. Definitely better obtaining information today except some of it is utter shite.

Here's something else about people: There is a strange juxtaposition among young people between bullying and harassment, which are apparently epidemic on social media, with people, especially young women, being unable to tolerate what is neither bullying nor harassment. I watched a Youtube video that was supposed to be of a woman being harassed all day long as she walked the streets of NY; it was an experiment. Some of what she experienced was harassment or even stalking, but much of it was just stupid attempts to make conversation, yet it was all described as "harassment." Today on Facebook I read about a young Japanese American woman, a musician obviously trying to promote herself, who posted all the "perv" remarks she's received on social media, on Instagram. I read some of the remarks. Some were pervy, and some were just awkward attempts at compliments by men who probably have learning disabilities or emotional problems. Sexual harassment used to mean a hostile workplace or being pressured for sex on the job. It did not used to mean awkward attempts at picking up women or misguided attempts at compliments. And if it happens on your Facebook page or Myspace page, you can just delete it!

Cuba has the right idea.

If the compliments  are  unwanted then it's harassment.  I don't know why this is so difficult for some men to understand.  Not every woman or girl you encounter wants your attention.  I don't buy the "he's just socially awkward" excuse.  If this were the case, the men in question wouldn't double down when the woman's body language lets him know she isn't interested or flattered or the woman tells him this outright.  Young women today are simply claiming the right young men have always enjoyed; the right to be left alone as they go about their business.

I don't know where you got that content from, but I never said it. I looked back through my "content" to make sure, but I already knew I never said it because it's not my diction. I don't always remember everything I have said, but I don't use the phrase "double down." How did you piece together this "quote"???

No you didn't.  That was my response to one of your posts.  I screwed up an attempt to quote your earlier post.  My apologies.
