Do any bands rival Led Zeppelin

Talking about Jimmy Page, well, there are at least 60 other guitar players which I rank higher.

Just  a few superior names:

Bert Jansch, Blind Lemon Jefferson,  Blind Blake, Barbeque Bob, Lonnie Johnson, T-Bone Walker, Elmore James, Lowell Fulson, Lightnin' Hopkins,  Lightnin' Slim, Freddie King, Albert King, BB King, Leslie Harvey, Davey Graham, Richard Thompson, Jorma Kaukonen, John Cipollina, Barry Melton, Mike Bloomfield, Peter Green,  Mick Taylor, Dickey Betts, Duane Allman, Johnny Winter, Charlie Whitney, Jerry Garcia, Martin Carthy, Frank Zappa, Bob Mould, J Mascis, Neil Young, Paul Kosoff, Chuck Prophet, John McLaughlin, Richie Blackmore, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Carlos Santana,  Otis Rush, Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix, Dick Dale, Wes Montgomery, Rory Gallagher, John Renbourn, Henry Vestine, Pete Townshend, Bill Harkleroad, Jeff Beck, Jim Hall....

Together with  Eric Clapton  and  a certain Robert  Johnson  some decades earlier,  I  say that Mr. Page  is one of the three most overrated guitar players of all-time.  Especially live on stage Page  was often a big disappointment, if not a major disaster desismileys_0869.gif

^^^ Yep. Your Rolling Stone cred is secure.

Since you have 835 bands ranked higher than Led Zeppelin, why are you even here? Shouldn't you be spending time on the websites of all those other bands you love more than Led Zeppelin. I know I wouldn't waste my time on the #836 band on my list...least of all go on their message board or YouTube clips.

Jimmy Page often a disappointment on stage? I saw Jimmy Page over 20 times in concert and I can only count two times where I would even remotely consider him below average or a disappointment. That was one of the ARMS benefit shows and one of the Firm gigs.

None of the Zeppelin shows was a disappointment...not even the ones in 1973 where Jimmy played with an injured hand. The guy should have been taking time off and healing his hand...but like a true trouper, he soldiered on and played like a champ.

1988 solo was no disappointment and neither were the 1995 and 1998 Page & Plant tours. Page was especially on fire on the 1998 tour.

The last time I saw Page play in person was with the Black Crowes in 1999. Again he was stellar!

That's a helluva lot more than I can say for Jeff Beck, Ritchie Blackmore, B.B. King and a few others on your list.

Because this is the very place on earth which needs firm guidance & inspiration more than every other Online- Rock Music-Community.

In this forum there are so many misleaded souls who deserve a cleaner & clearer understanding of the matter.

Therefore I will continue  to post recommendations, favorite Bands & albums in this section at irregular intervals.... desismileys_1186.gif

Ya know Strider, you can be as much a bully and a hater as anyone who frequents this site. We all have our moments, including you.

Someone as old and wise as you should know better than to let your panties get bunched over a subjective music opinion, no matter how off-base, misguided or wrong it may be.  There's countless threads here about Jimmy Page's failure to maintain his chops, live up to expectations, make the right reissue choices...Shit, this is ground zero for Jimmy Page criticism.

And you need to attack B.B King?  Havin' a bad day?  Hope you feel better soon.

There are 2 Holy trinities for RnR. For artists, Buddy Holly, Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix.  For bands, The Beatles, Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin.

And i'll add another for aggressive Rock pioneers; Iggy Pop, Lemmy Kilmister & Glenn Danzig.

I do not get the poster named Zino tbh. Seems to have a huge music knowledge. But likes so many better than Zep. And gets that point across as many times as possible in each post. But the bigger question must be, Why come on here ?. No offence like.

I am on this site because I like Zep, and I think Page is a excellent musician, I have seen him many times and have always enjoyed watching him play. The list of players Zino listed as being better then Page is rather large. but many of them are better guitar players such as Blackmore and Beck.  there is no question they are technically better if you are just talking about playing skills. the folks here who got upset about this are delusional and living in their own fantasy world.

Nice words BledZabbth, but the truth is you are in denial and out of touch with reality.

Page is wonderful, great to listen to and watch, a fantastic song writer and arranger,  but to say he is better than anyone else is rather silly.

He is the best over everyone, fucking period! End of fucking story. Understand?

Led Zep forum is going to have us all saying everything related to them is the best. To be expected as we are all big fans. Same as a Everton FC forum, Nobody on there is going to say, Liverpool are better. This thread is being trolled. I agree 100% with BledZabbath. Because he like me is a Zephead. No more from me in here.

Jimmy Page considers himself to be an "all a rounder".  A sort of Jack Of All Trades.  Most listed  on your (zino's) list are very good if not great  specialists at a particular genre. Page is equally at home in Rock, Blues, Hard Rock / Metal, Folk, Pop, Avant Garde etc.. That the same person who  recorded Ten Years Gone also recorded Shadow In The City is a testament to his versatility. There are better Blues guitarists because that's their thing. Page has many other things.. There are other all a rounders that didn't make the zino fancy font list.

Something tells me he's not big on the Progressive types either. Zappa is there and no doubt of his genius. I'd rank Steve Howe above most on his list.. so it's all subjective... isn't it?

There's no doubt Jimmy had some rough patches and some horrendous shows. But that's life (all caught on tape and camera) and he's alive and healthy at 73.

How about presenting your top 1000 zino?  I'd love to see the 834 bands / artists you list above Led Zeppelin.  I'm sure it would be entertaining and interesting.

Personally I think that no list of geniuses is complete without Venom's Mantas on the number one spot.................that guy invented music, without being able to tune his guitar. His incredible solo on "Witching hour" is still one of the finest moments in recorded musical history. Saw him once in concert and I was nearly deaf for a week............the effect is shattering.

Without Mantas there would never have been players like Blackmore, Rhoads, Van Halen or Blind Melon Chitlin, so with all respect, I only discuss music with people who believe in true music: Black Metal!!!

Hail Seitan.

I did that om purpose as well..................seitan is a gluten based meat surrogate, hehehe.

This thread deserved some sarcasm due to our new musical messiah and his pompous display of dramatic poserism. Forgive me btw to have you listening to Venom. Most of their compositions are horrible, unless you want something to really piss off your neighbors.
