Lyrics that really changed your live

The lyrics to a song on my top ten all time favorites. No lyrics have ever "changed my life".

Echoes (Waters, Wright, Mason, Gilmour) 23:27

Overhead the albatross

Hangs motionless upon the air

And deep beneath the rolling waves

In labyrinths of coral caves

An echo of a distant time

Comes willowing across the sand

And everything is green and submarine.

And no one called us to the land

And no one knows the where's or why's.

Something stirs and something tries

Starts to climb toward the light.

Strangers passing in the street

By chance two separate glances meet

And I am you and what I see is me.

And do I take you by the hand

And lead you through the land

And help me understand

The best I can.

And no one called us to the land

And no one crosses there alive.

No one speaks and no one tries

No one flies around the sun....

Almost everyday you fall

Upon my waking eyes,

Inviting and inciting me

To rise.

And through the window in the wall

Come streaming in on sunlight wings

A million bright ambassadors of morning.

And no one sings me lullabyes

And no one makes me close my eyes

So I throw the windows wide

And call to you across the sky....

None have changed my life, although I have a lot of favorites. I really like this song, even though it's pop-y. I doubt anyone else will post it on a Zep board:

"Breathe (2 AM)", Anna Nalick

2 AM and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake,

"Can you help me unravel my latest mistake?,

I don't love him. Winter just wasn't my season"

Yeah we walk through the doors, so accusing their eyes

Like they have any right at all to criticize,

Hypocrites. You're all here for the very same reason

'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable

And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table

No one can find the rewind button, girl.

So cradle your head in your hands

And breathe... just breathe,

Oh breathe, just breathe

May he turned 21 on the base at Fort Bliss

"Just a day" he said down to the flask in his fist,

"Ain't been sober, since maybe October of last year."

Here in town you can tell he's been down for a while,

But, my God, it's so beautiful when the boy smiles,

Wanna hold him. Maybe I'll just sing about it.

Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,

And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table.

No one can find the rewind button, boys,

So cradle your head in your hands,

And breathe... just breathe,

Oh breathe, just breathe

There's a light at each end of this tunnel,

You shout 'cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out

And these mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again

If you only try turning around.

2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a song

If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer inside of me,

Threatening the life it belongs to

And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd

Cause these words are my diary, screaming out loud

And I know that you'll use them, however you want to

But you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,

And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table

No one can find the rewind button now

Sing it if you understand.

and breathe, just breathe

woah breathe, just breathe,

Oh breathe, just breathe,

Oh breathe, just breathe.

I wouldn't say these lyrics really changed my life, but they did have a profound effect on me. Can't listen to it without getting all teary eyed. That's what I get for being an emotional Cancer. <_<

Times Of Trouble By Temple Of The Dog

When the spoon is hot

And the needles sharp

And you drift away

I can hear you say

That the world in black

Is upon your back

And your body shakes

So you ditch away

And you close the shades

Dont try to do it

Dont try to kill your time

You might do it

Then you cant change your mind

Youve got a hold on to your time

Till your break through these

Times of trouble

When you try to talk

And the words get hard

And they put you down

Dont you stay

Dont you ditch away

I saw you swinging

Swinging your mothers sword

I know youre playing but

Sometimes the rules get hard

But if somebody left you out on a ledge

If somebody pushed you over the edge

If somebody loved you and left you for dead

You got to hold on to your time till you break

Through these times of trouble

We Can Work It Out... life's too damn short to get bent out of shape over petty differences...

Try to see it my way,

Do i have to keep on talking till i can't go on?

While you see it your way,

Run the risk of knowing that our love may soon be gone.

We can work it out,

We can work it out.

Think of what you're saying.

You can get it wrong and still you think that it's alright.

Think of what i'm saying,

We can work it out and get it straight, or say good night.

We can work it out,

We can work it out.

Life is very short, and there's no time

For fussing and fighting, my friend.

I have always thought that it's a crime,

So i will ask you once again.

Try to see it my way,

Only time will tell if i am right or i am wrong.

While you see it your way

There's a chance that we may fall apart before too long.

We can work it out,

We can work it out.

Hello out there, we're on the air, it's 'Hockey Night' tonight.

Tension grows, the wistle blows, and the puck goes down the ice.

The goalie jumps, and the players bump, and the fans all go insane.

Someone roars, "Bobby Scores!", at the good ol' Hockey Game.

OH! The good ol' Hockey game, is the best game you can name.

And the best game you can name, is the good ol' Hockey game.

Second Period.

Where players dash, with skates aflash, the home team trails behind.

But they grab the puck, and go bursting up, and they're down across the line.

They storm the crease, like bumble bees, they travel like a burning flame.

We see them slide, the puck inside, it's a 1-1 hockey game.

OH! The good ol' Hockey game, is the best game you can name.

And the best game you can name, is the good ol' Hockey game.

Third Period. Last game of the playoff too!

Oh take me where, the hockey players, face off down the rink.

And the Stanley Cup, is all filled up, for the champs who win the drink.

Now the final flick, of a hockey stick, and the one gigantic scream.

"The puck is in! The home team wins!", the good ol' hockey game.

OH! The good ol' Hockey game, is the best game you can name.

And the best game you can name, is the good ol' Hockey game.

One other song in which the lyrics affected me to a great degree.

Mother Love Bone - Man Of Golden Words

Wanna show you something like

The joy inside my heart

Seems I've been living in the temple of the dog

Where would I live, if I were a man of golden words?

And would I live, at all?

Words and music, my only tools

Communication

And on her arrival, I will set free the birds

It's a pretty time of year, and the mountains sing out loud

Tell me, Mr. Golden Words, how's about the world?

Tell me can you tell at all?

Words and music, my only tools

Communication

Let's fall in love with music

The driving force in our living

The only international language

Divine glory, the expression

The knees bow, the tongue confesses

The lord of lords, the king of kings

The king of kings

Words and music - my only tools

Communication

Papa Roach - Kick in the teeth

We live in a cold dark world with venom in it's fangs.

You can spit it in my face but I know I'll be ok

It's on the attack. It's a war, It's a game.

A ball and chain chew my arm off to get away

Don't fight, or it deny it, invite it cause when it ..

Feels like a kick in the teeth, I can take it.

Throw your stones and you won't see me break it.

Say what you want, take your shots.

You're setting me free with one more kick in the teeth

(Na na na na na)

Kick in the Teeth (na na na na na na)

I gotta say thanks cause you kick me when im down

I'm bleeding out the mouth.

I hope you know I'm stronger now.

I'm taking the hate, I'm turning it all around.

I wont go down 'til I'm six feet underground.

Dont fight, or it deny it, invite it, cause when it ...

Feels like a kick in the teeth, I can take it.

Throw your stones and you won't see me break it.

Say what you want, take your shots.

You're setting me free with one more kick in the teeth

(na na na na na )

Kick in the teeth (na na na na na)

What doesnt kill me only, will make me stronger in my head

In my head

(guitar solo)

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now,

It's just a spring clean from the May Queen

Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run

There's still time to change the road you're on

Out of all the lyrics out there, this one has changed my life, or more accurately, encouraged me to change my life.

for me it says that when you're not happy and content with the way your life is, it's OK.

Change is good, and regardless of how hard it is to change your way of life, your habits that you want to rid

yourself of, you can do it. It's never too late.

When I was a teen and in my twenties it seemed my life focused around drinking and drugs. By the time I was in my early thirties I was quite simply, a functional alcoholic. These lyrics and encouragement from my best friend enabled me to

quit cold turkey, because there ARE two paths that you can go by and there IS still time to change the road I was on.

A few years after i quit i became a successful business owner for the first time in my life and the only one of the five siblings in my family

to do so....which I never could have done under the influence or without these lyrics that encouraged me to do so.

Thank You Mr. Plant for helping me to realize that anything is possible and it's never too late to make the changes in life

to make you a better person. I'm proud to say that thirteen years later, not a drop and it's not even a consideration.

A couple verses from "Pure and Easy" by Pete Townshend:

"There once was a note, pure and easy

Playing so free, like a breath rippling by

The note is eternal, I hear it, it sees me

Forever we blend and forever we die"

"As people assemble

Civilization is trying to find a new way to die

But killing is really merely scene changing

All men are bored with other men's lies"

"Gas on a hillside, oil in the teacup

Watch all the chords of life lose their joy

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness

The note that began all can also destroy"

"Except in one note, pure and easy

Playing so free, like a breath rippling by

There once was a note, listen

There once was a note, listen"

He wrote this back in '70-'71...............not a damned thing has changed.

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day

Fritter and waste the hours in and off-hand way

Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown

Waitng for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain

You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you

No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it´s sinking

And racing around to come up behind you again

The sun is the same in a relative, but you´re older

Shorter of breath, one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time

Plans that either come to nought, or half a page of scribbled lines

Hanging on in quiet desperation is the english way

The time is gone, the song is over, thougt I´d something more to say.

Oh yeah, that's the one that gives me the goosebumps.

Yours is a great testament to lyrics, friends, and mainly the momentum and strength within oneself to shed the shackles which hold one back. I appreciate you sharing this with the forum, bigzepfan.

KISS - Hard Times

Well, I recall days in the city

And I think back, "Oh what a pity"

Rememberin' how it wasn't pretty

Every day life in the city

Out in the street we had to take it

With friends around, couldn't it

What wasn't there, we had to make it

Hangin' out down in the city

The hard times are dead and gone

But the hard times have made me strong

And the hard times have made me see

That the hard times ain't where I wanna be

We had to fight to be accepted

It wasn't right and I protested

For hangin' out we got arrested

Every day life in the city

We'd go to school and then we'd cut out

Go to the park and space our heads out

We called it fun but there was some doubt

Hangin' out down in the city

The hard times are dead and gone

But the hard times have made me strong

And the hard times have made me see

That the hard times ain't where I wanna be

I don't wanna be there or even think back

I don't wanna be there, now I'm on the right track, yeah

The hard times are dead and gone

But the hard times have made me strong

And the hard times have made me see

That the hard times ain't where I wanna be

I don't wanna be there or even think back

I don't wanna be there, 'cause I'm on the right track

Now I'm on the right track

I'm finally on the right track

I'm finally on the right track

This song makes me wanna work that much harder when i was in school and beyond that

Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air

And deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves

The echo of a distant tide

Comes willowing across the sand

And everything is green and submarine

And no one showed us to the land

And no one knows the where's or why's

But something stirs and something tries

And starts to climb towards the light

Strangers passing in the street

By chance two separate glances meet

And I am you and what I see is me

And do I take you by the hand

And lead you through the land

And help me understand the best I can

And no one calls us to move on

And no one forces down our eyes

And no one speaks

And no one tries

And no one flies around the sun

Cloudless every day you fall

Upon my waking eyes

Inviting and inciting me to rise

And through the window in the wall

Comes streaming in on sunlight wings

A million bright ambassadors of morning

And no one sings me lullabies

And no one makes me close my eyes

So I tore the windows wide

And call to you across the sky.

That was my Dads favourite Pink Floyd song, he loved it.He was in his 70s when I bought it for him on vinyl, he was really pleased.

Some girls give me money

Some girls buy me clothes

Some girls give me jewelry

That I never thought I own

Some girls give me diamonds

Some girls, heart attacks

Some girls I give all my bread to

I don’t ever wont it back

Some girls give me jewelry

Others bye me clothes

Some girls give me children

I never asked them for

So give me all you’re money

Give me all you’re gold

I’ll bye you a house back in Zuma beach

And give you half of what I own

Some girls take my money

Some girls take my clothes

Some girls get the shirt off my back

And leave me whit a lethal dose

French girls they want Cartier

Italian girls want cars

American girls want everything in the world

You can possibly imagine

English girls they’re so prissy

I can’t stand them on the telephone

Sometimes I take the receiver off the hook

I don’t want them to ever call at all

White girls they’re pretty funny

Sometimes they drive me mad

Black girls just wanna get fucked all night

I just don’t have that much jam

Chinese girls are so gentle

They’re really such a tease

You never know what they’re cockin’

Inside those silky sleeves

Give me all you’re money

Give me all you’re gold

I’ll bye you a house back in Zuma beach

And give you half of what I own

Some girls they’re so pure

Some girls so corrupt

Some girls give me children

I only made love to her once

Give me half your money

Give me half your car

Give me half of everything

I’ll make you world’s biggest star

So gimme all your money

Give me all your gold

Let’s go back to Zuma beach

I’ll give you half of everything I own

No lyric has ever changed my life

I lied when I wrote this because I was masking the hurt I still harboured from when she hanged herself from a tree. So here goes, don't laugh, I know I'm a pussy but it's only been the last 12 months I can admit that I looked to music to pull me through otherwise I would have pulled the plug on myself from the feeling that I should have been able to stop it somehow, but the truth is, it would have happened the next day or the next week or whatever, So it's not my fault. She did it to herself and sense of guilt turned me into a horrible person for a number of years that didn't want to see anyone or anything I cared about. Maybe that's why I spent so much time on the road in shitty motels because I didn't want to be around people? Thanks to someone on this forum of all places, I had an outlet which sort brought me to terms that I can be good person again and I have spent the last 3 years trying to be the guy I was before that horrible moment and I feel like I'm him again which feels great.

Help, I need somebody
Help, not just anybody
Help, you know, I need someone
Help
(When)
When I was younger, so much younger than today (I never needed)
I never needed anybody's help in any way (now)
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured (and now I find)
Now I find, I've changed my mind, I've opened up the doors
Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being 'round
Help me get my feet back on the ground
Won't you, please, please help me?
(Now)
And now my life has changed in, oh, so many ways (my independence)
My independence seems to vanish in the haze (but)
But every now and then I feel so insecure (I know that I)
I know that I just need you like I've never done before
Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being 'round
Help me get my feet back on the ground
Won't you, please, please help me?
When I was younger, so much younger than today
I never needed anybody's help in any way (now)
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured (and now I find)
Now I find, I've changed my mind, I've opened up the doors
Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being 'round
Help me get my feet back on the ground
Won't you, please, please help me?
Help me, help me

"A Farewell To Kings" - Rush

When they turn the pages of history
When these days have passed long ago
Will they read of us with sadness
For the seeds that we let grow?
We turned our gaze
From the castles in the distance
Eyes cast down
On the path of least resistance

Cities full of hatred, fear and lies
Withered hearts and cruel, tormented eyes
Scheming demons dressed in kingly guise
Beating down the multitude and
Scoffing at the wise

The hypocrites are slandering
The sacred Halls of Truth
Ancient nobles showering
Their bitterness on youth
Can't we find the minds that made us strong?
Can't we learn to feel what's right
And what's wrong?
What's wrong?

"Something For Nothing" - Rush

Waiting for the winds of change
To sweep the clouds away
Waiting for the rainbow's end
To cast its gold your way
Countless ways
You pass the days

Waiting for someone to call
And turn your world around
Looking for an answer
To the question you have found
Looking for
An open door

You don't get something for nothing
You can't have freedom for free
You won't get wise
With the sleep still in your eyes
No matter what your dreams might be

What you own is your own kingdom
What you do is your own glory
What you love is your own power
What you live is your own story
In your head is the answer
Let it guide you along
Let your heart be the anchor
And the beat of your own song
