DoubleNecker
zosodude, it's good that you're into King Crimson now. One of the true greats of progressive rock. In The Court of The Crimson King is great. Moonchild is such a mellow song. And Red is absolutely amazing. Starless blows me away everytime. I should really listen to Islands and Lizard. It took me a bit to truly enjoy Larks' Tongue in Aspic, but I did it. Robert Fripp is an awesome guitarist and proves to be so with Andy Summers. Wesley
^ Fripp proved that a long time before his collaboration with Andy Summers. Here's a diamond in the rough. Fripp, Michael Giles and Peter Giles who both later played with King Crimson. 1968 Eccentric as hell !
DoubleNecker
^ Fripp proved that a long time before his collaboration with Andy Summers. Of course, but I'm just pointing it out. Fripp made it clear on the first note on 21st Century Schizoid Man that he was a damned good guitarist.

One of the few who've shown no deterioration in his playing for over 40 years! His dexterity is still top notch with no signs of letting up. The elite guitarist. I've been listening to King Crimson all day....they have the honor of being the first band for my Prog Week. I only have Discipline and Beat left. Aenima7988
I was able to get through Lizard becasue it was still heavy Mellotron and the jazz on that album reminded me of Cat Food, which was one of my favorite songs from In the Wake of Poseidon I dont have anything beyond the first 3 albums... so I wanna know, how much did the style change after Lizard? because I know that there was a shift in musical direction... jsut not what exactly it was does catfood go CATFOOD catfood catfood AGAIN ? Cause there's a cover that Peach (Justin Chancellor from Tool's old band) does, and i never knew who did the original. if that's KC then they're even weirder than i thought! i just started getting into king crimson- i don't really like the stuff before the 80s, but like i said, i only JUST started listening. as a new listener, i recommend other new listeners check out anything with adrian belew (after and including 1981/discipline) I have ConstruKction of Light and it's AMAZING. Jarlaxle 56
Personally, I am a fan of their earlier stuff more...it's more jazzy, and that's what I like about them.

Hermit
*crossover from other thread as this seem the more proper (original) place for KC discussion* Hermit, the later stuff is pretty good. Discipline is so experimental it's insane. Beat was good too, but I don't think it's got the same amount of power as Discipline. Same goes for Three of a Perfect Pair, although Sleepless is a beast. I have THRAK, but I haven't listened to it yet. Yeah,.. Discipline is my favorite of the 3 too. If you dig (Three Of A Perfect Pair pun intended ) Discipline as much as I do.. as it seems you do.. then I highly suggest you get 'ConstruKtion Of Light', 'The Power To Believe', and 'Eyes Wide Open' (DVD). Kick-ass King Crimson! Fwiw.. although I like In The Court Of The Crimson King quite abit, and some of the other earlier material.., my KC interest is mostly from Discipline and thereafter (1981 - present). My first experience of KC was the Fripp, Belew, Bruford, and Levin lineup and that's the lineup that's always been the nearest and dearest to my KC heart. Having saisd that, I also really dig the lineup with Trey Gunn and Pat Mastelotto too. They jam! You can imagine how thrilled I was in 1994 when I saw the "double-trio" lineup of Belew, Fripp, Levin, Gunn, Bruford, and Mastelotto! -->
zosodude13
welcome to this thread, hermit! (a place of peace from the d-day happening over in the next POTUS thread ) like I said, I havent gotten to the 80's era yet and dont plan to untill I get Islands, Lark's in Aspic, and Starless and Bible Black... to understand what the whole first stand of KC was all about imo, In The Court of the Crimson King has gotta rank up there in terms of the best debut album of all time... and its because of that album I've learned to love the mellotron and enjoy the "epic" feel it adds to any song

Hermit
I might as well put this in here too. Sweet! ..and only $25?! Wow! *goes looking for Seattle dates* none yet. Audacity
Sweet! ..and only $25?! Wow! It's because it's a "warmup" gig. Fairly informal and intimate. Fripp is very casual and will engage with fans and even laugh and smile! All tix are the same price and it's first come, first serve for the best seats. Needless to say I'll get the best seat as I always go to the venue's about 3 hours prior to doors and shoot the breeze with all the arriving fans. That's what I did last night and I got right under Kim Gordon EXACTLY where I wanted to be for Sonic Youth. Those tickets were also only $25. You've seen Robert Fripp smile.. and laugh? No way!! A "warmup gig", eh? Cool! That means a tour is forthcoming. I shall keep my eyes/ears open for ticket announcements! Thanks for the heads up! Adrian Belew is touring with The AB Power Trio right up until July 5th. I guess he'll have a couple of weeks to rest up, and a couple weeks of practice with King Crimson, and then.. off they go! zosodude13
its been a while.. but its time to dust off the cobwebs and dust I just bought Larks' Tounges in Aspic and Starless and Bible Black ill keep this short... Larks' Tounges in Aspic (Part 1) proves to me once and for all that Robert Fripp is a musical genius everything else was amazing off of those two albums... and now I'll wait for the chance to get Islands, and have the first phase of King Crimson to enjoy for the time being
MisterMcLov1n
21st Century Schizoid Man scares the shit out of me. Only that song, Epitaph and I talk to the Wind are the only songs I have listened to by them yet and I plan on exploring their discography.
