Cat
Albuquerque (TX) Tribune Auqust 4, 1969 by Rod Geer Vanilla Fudge Show A Very Exciting One From the first organ note by Vanilla Fudge to the last wail of a Led Zeppelin guitar, hard rock and Blues fans were treated to one of the most exciting show ever performed in Albuquerque. Before it was over late Saturday night much of the audience was dancing in the aisles, on the chairs or near the stage where Jimmy Page's guitar and Robert Plant's voice were screaming the Blues of Led Zeppelin. Most selections performed by the England-based Led Zeppelin were from its first album on Atlantic. Their second LP release on the same label is due soon. They started with "Can't Quit You Babe" and moved next into probably their most popular songs,"Dazed and Confused." Plant and Page, one of the premier Blues guitarists in the world, stole the show. The other two Zeppelin members, bass guitarist John Paul Jones and drummer John Bonham were almost unnoticed. The story differed for Vanilla Fudge which set aside in its act, time for Individual performances. Tim Bogert, the thin blond fudge bass player, received a standing ovation for his improvised seven- minute solo. During the drum solo by Carmine Appice, who removed his shirt half way through the group's performance , the audience laughed as he added a little comic relief by pounding out "Mary Had a Little Lamb." During the past two years Vanilla Fudge haa recorded four albums for Atco, and group founder aad organist Mark Stein said a new one called "Rock 'n Roll" will be out soon.
