David Letterman Makes Sleazy Comments About Sarah Palin's Daughter

Palin has to be the least media savvy politician to come along in a looooong time.

Her "media savviness" really isn't in question here. What does matter is did DL go over the line with his joke?

Sarah's response: "Laughter incited by sexually perverted comments made by a 62-year-old male celebrity aimed at a 14-year-old girl is not only disgusting, but it reminds us some Hollywood/N.Y. entertainers have a long way to go in understanding what the rest of America understands -- that acceptance of inappropriate sexual comments about an underage girl, who could be anyone's daughter, contributes to the atrociously high rate of sexual exploitation of minors by older men who use and abuse others."

He violated this basic principle - it is inappropriate to make sexually explicit jokes about children (regardless if the parent(s) and/or person(s) making the joke are public figures).

In other words, discussing children in this manner is off-limits.

If anything, this affords an opportunity to comment on just how badly David Letterman's show sucks. There's nothing more embarrassing than watching someone who was once at the top of their profession stay in the game too long. He's losing ratings and has lost

his time slot. It seems to me he is losing his better judgement as well.

Actually it's part of the equation - call and response. It's clear that he was satirizing how well Bristol's message of abstinence worked (which she didn't address at all). He said as much in a follow up. She did not broaden her political appeal but took senseless shots at Hollywood/N.Y. and missing the point (or avoiding it ;) ) entirely.

Yes of course it is. Nobody, DL included, disputes that. But he was referring to Bristol's situation. Thinking he made a reference to sexually exploiting children is like thinking Swift advocated actually eating children.

^ he doesn't, but fatally literal Palin jumped all over it, saying he made sexually explicit comments about her fourteen year old, when course he was commenting on the eighteen year old whose mother touted abstinence.

I agree Letterman should retire his show. Only time i watch is if there's a guest i really want to see is on. But i'm like that with all the late night shows. Maybe the joke was in poor taste, but the family in question are no role models, either.

Edit: i didn't see the show, so i can't comment on the actual content (i'm not a Youtuber)

Please post where you got the information that the 18 year old daughter was at the game I can't find it with a quick google search. If she wasn't there your comments make no sense. Thanks :)

DL said himself that he was referring to Bristol, not the fourteen-year-old. I didn't say the eighteen-year-old was at the game, but that the joke was about her. It was a knock-up joke, so clearly about the older one. That is no longer in question.

Voila:

Edit to actually add link...it's about at 2:15 mark

Are you watching a different clip? In the one posted he says "her daughter", he doesn't mention any names. He was clearly talking about "her daughter" who was there. Please post the one you watched or the source of your info. Thanks.

If the older daughter wasn't at the game he is obviously back pedaling due to the negative press this caused.

Nah I just think it wasn't that great of a joke and the disproportionate reaction made a bigger deal than it deserved. It makes no sense to discuss the younger daughter - there's nothing to poke fun at there. But with the older daughter and abstinence and pregnancy it seems to me the direction of the joke was clear. The joke about Palin shooting NY rats from a helicopter was better, but meh, this is fizzling out already....

Wait, it gets better. Letterman also joked about Palin's daughter and disgraced former democrat New York Governor, Elliot Spitzer, who is known to consort with prostitutes.

Gotta wonder where is the outrage from the usual suspects?

Where are the women of the National Organization of Women (NOW)?

Where is Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, two folks who earn a living playing the race card?

Letterman’s attack was indeed racist. You see, Todd Palin is a Native American. A Yup’ik. So is his 14 year old daughter, Willow.

Letterman isn't calling any member of the Palin family a prostitute. He is mocking the sexual escapades of Elliot Spitzer, saying he will sleep with anyone.

Speaking of where is NOW, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and "folks playing the race card"... I know you wouldn't be here, cryingbluerain, if this was Letterman, Glenn Beck or anyone who made jokes about the Obama girls being prostitutes.

All this is nothing but a conservative temper tantrum because they didn't get the president they wanted, just like the liberals did the last 8 years before.

It's a joke, in bad taste, but a joke. Get over it.

You and everyone else here knows what would happen if he had made that kind of joke about them.

It would be WWIII!

And rightly so!

But it seems to be quite fine because Sarah Palin and her family are conservatives.

Letterman has made sexual references about Governor Palin in the past. They were tasteless at best. But Governor Palin is a grown woman, and can certainly defend herself. And she certainly has.

But for David Letterman to attack a 14 year old girl like this is wrong.

Of course, this is typical from the left these days. They go out of their way to destroy those who disagree with them.

Look at Miss California, Carrie Prejean. She has been attacked from the left over and over for her stance on gay marriage. Her stance, by the way is the same exact stance as that of the current President of the United States, Barack Obama! And Miss Prejean also shares the exact same feelings as the majority of the voters in her native California!

But again, since Prejean is a conservative, with traditional American values, she must be destroyed.

I just love those "traditional" nude photos. Nothing "conservative" or "left" to the imagination.

I suspose her "values" are porn and as the saying goes, we all know it when we see it.

Perhaps Playboy will call and she can "cash" in. Too bad Larry Flint and Hustler won`t call.

Miss Un-employed-California`s "value" is probably not so much as she is already all over the internet with her pants down.

Maybe she can get a real job and annoy a liberal at the El Segundo Hooters serving up chicken wings.

I heard the tips are good.

Here`s a tip and keep the change.

Palin-Prejean in 2012.

To bad not much rhymes with 12 but the alliteration is catchy.

I am just waiting for the Palin-Prejean-Coulter "spread" in Maxim.

Maybe a sexy "Girls Of Conservatism" calender is in good order.

You can`t destroy Prejean, she imploded herself for crying-out-loud-puplerain.

But CBR, he didn't attack a 14 year old girl. It wasn't even that funny of a joke (honestly at first I thought it was a dig at A-Roid), but clearly the focus was on the 18 year old, or more to the point, the Palin stance on abstinence. I'm small l and capital L liberal and I wouldn't stand for a 14 year old being spoken of that way, even in jest, so not all libs sway mindlessly whichever way the wind blows. I really think the point of an intro jibe was missed.

I wonder if Palin will accept his offer to be a guest on the show? (DL being DL, he sure know how to turn any situation into potential ratings)

WASHINGTON – James von Brunn carried a lifetime of hatred and an aging rifle to the entrance of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, authorities say, and was met with a simple act of kindness: a security guard opening the door for him. Critically injured in a hospital bed Thursday, the 88-year-old white supremacist was charged with murdering Steven T. Johns, the black guard.

According to interviews with family, friends and civil rights groups, von Brunn spent decades spewing hate toward Jews and blacks — a hatred that was nearing a crescendo in the weeks before the shooting.

At least one acquaintance said he suspected that von Brunn was preparing for a violent end.

Von Brunn had talked about giving up "precious things" — even the computer from which he spread his angry diatribes against Jews, interracial dating and the government, said fellow white supremacist John de Nugent.

"He said he had gone offline," said de Nugent, who last spoke to von Brunn on the phone a few weeks ago.

De Nugent said von Brunn complained that his Social Security benefits had been reduced, and he suspected that his white supremacist views were the reason.
