Evan Serpick of RollingStone.com recently conducted an in-depth interview with STONE TEMPLE PILOTS/ex-VELVET REVOLVER singer Scott Weiland. An excerpt from the chat follows:

RollingStone.com: Did that call from Dean come at a time when things were already falling apart with VELVET REVOLVER?

Weiland: No, things at that time were working quite well with VELVET REVOLVER and I didn't want to mention it to them until there was a plan and a couple gigs that were actually booked. Slash and I were usually the ones who talked to each other first about things, then we'd go to the rest of the guys. And, unfortunately because of certain people's egos, it… I walked into a situation where there was a lot of baggage. I had a lot of baggage walking into my situation. I was in a band where at the end, it was pretty much three against one.And so I'm pretty sure that it felt that way to Axl [Rose, GUNS N' ROSES singer] as well. I have to say this, and I'm not just saying this now because of my situation I went through, but I heard a lot of great GUNS N' ROSES stories you guys in the press will never hear. Everyone has made Axl out to be this horrendously crazy person, this bad guy, and I don't know him very well at all. He and I for whatever reason got almost tricked into this little media spat for a moment because one of our band members happened to run into him and said that he said something. So, my point being that having been in a band with VELVET REVOLVER now for five and a half years, I'm not quite so sure that it was all Axl's fault. It's like, why does it always have to be the lead singer. Matt Sorum in front of my face, he was the sweetest guy in the world. But there were some times, out of the blue, the guy just randomly hated me. We all carried our own baggage in that band. In a sense, that's why people were intrigued, you know, especially for the first couple of years. Because they were kind of waiting on the trainwreck to happen. They just thought it would happen a lot sooner.

  2. i've read numerous times that stinson and axl do not get along most of the time. shit, stinson said it himself.

so with stinson doing a replacements reunion and fink leaving, could this be pointing to a gnr reunion ?

now that i think about it, probably not, because gnr plan on going on tour again for CD (hopefully when they tour again CD will actually be out).

i think axl wants to take the current line-up on tour for cd before he even thinks about an original gnr reunion.

  3. Right, because telling someone to fuck off, and attempting to end a conversation on a message board is real mature...

I was stooping to your level if anything. You've made some pretty ignorant comments yourself. So stop trying to act high and mighty.

apologies. i really was a dick head and pretty immature (im not being sarcastic). sorry man.

  4. You know it will be good? So you've already heard the entire thing? I think not. Get Axl's dick out of your mouth and try forming an honest opinion once the album is actually released, not ahead of time before you've even heard it.

funny you should say that. so many of you on this thread have talked so much shit about the current gnr line-up before you have even heard any of the new material or what the new line-up is even capable of.

  5. Mine wouldn't change one iota. Regrouping the original G n' R wouldn't suddenly erase how Axl has mistreated his fans, women or the fact that he's taken so fucking long just to release one album. However, it would free up Tommy Stinson to get back to the business of making some music that is actually worthwhile.

i think its funny that the new bassist for gnr is in the replacements. kinda ironic :D

  6. Yeah, lots of musicians go on stage on time, and do the right thing. Oh well

Axl is a genius and an amazing performer.

You get goose bumps when this guy comes out on stage. There is no one like him.

    So, people take their chances.

Geffen has invested, and Geffen has done the right thing. They've already been paid by the release of the Greatest Hits and Axl's touring.

I guarantee Chinese Democracy will be a world wide #1 album, and it will sell many millions (even with downloading the way it is). I don't think Geffen is sweating.

    agreed.

  7. A major music-oriented television channel has pitched an idea for a reality series to Axl Rose, according to sources close to the project.

The show, which would appear on a cable channel that asked not to be identified, would follow the troubled rocker as his continues his decade-long effort to release the Guns N' Roses project "Chinese Democracy."

Rose has been laboring on tracks for the project on-and-off since mid-1994, and in both 2006 and 2007 gave several interviews promising the album would be finished "within the year."

The sound of Chinese Democracy has often reported to be industrial rock music similar to Nine Inch Nails and Ministry, a style that Rose had long been a fan of. But the tracks that have surfaced online show a variety of sounds, with tinges of everything from Ministry to Queen to classic Guns N' Roses.

According to sources at Geffen (Rose's music label) a version of "Chinese Democracy" has been finished and delivered to the label. But there are still outstanding issues between the singer and the label, not the least of which is a recording cost for the project which (depending on who you believe), has reached between $11 and $15 million. Another stickler is the digital rights for the tracks, along with some proposed "bonus" tracks Geffen would like to release digitally.

This reality show project would be part of a larger effort to build buzz for an album which faces a number of promotional hurdles. Rose's recent concert appearances have been erratic at best, and many fans of the classic Guns N' Roses lineup are going to require some persuasion before embracing this new sound. Rose is also not an especially "journalist-friendly" preformer, making promotion for the project even more difficult.

The new (still untitled) reality show would follow Rose and his band as they prepare for release of the album. It would include behind-the-scenes rehearsal and studio footage, as well as interviews with a number of the participants. "There is a lot of footage to choose from," said a network source. "Some of it is incredibly personal and revealing about Axl's life."

According to the network source, the deal for the show is "close, but not signed." Part of the holdup seems to be the timing, as the particpants want to integrate the show into a timeline with the leadup to the album's release, along with the announcment of a limited number of concert dates.

Efforts to get a comment from Axl or his management have so far been unsuccessful

  8. Sorry DRUNK, a great frontman doesn't diss his fans like Axl has done many times. If you know so much about him, you know how often he just doesn't show up. Greatest loser ever IMO. Make that a big IF.

is that your opinion or did you copy and paste that from some article you read on the internet.

how does axl diss his fans ?

    by showing up late ?

by doing the same fucking thing he has been doing for over 20 years ?

    get over it !

so ignorant and naive. go back to your blabbermouth.net or mtv.com and follow the anti-axl trend that seems to be going on.

dont even try to argue with me about this. i know the facts.
