I googled "led zeppelin+1977+balloon". It was just luck of the draw the auction is going on now and came up in the search results. I've never seen another one of these balloons, even on sites that specialize in Zep memorabilia, so they're likely pretty rare.

The one thing that has held true for every show I've worked on is the better you can make it sound, the more impressive you realize the performance was. I think that's because most recordings, at least in their original state, fail to convey much of what Bonzo and JPJ played. On many of them it sounds like Bonzo's kit was comprised solely of snare drums because the recording couldn't capture the lower registers of his floor toms and kick drum. And the same thing happens with the bottom end of Jonsey's bass guitar, so you can only hear a limited portion of what he actually played. When you can finally hear the full range of their instruments, you get to really appreciate how complex and interesting their playing really was, how well they worked together as a team, and how well they supported and interacted with Jimmy. The best example of that I've come across to illustrate that is the 2/10/75 show. It's from the time when Robert's voice was rough from the cold he was in the midst of, and Jimmy had mostly, but not completely, recovered from his hand injury, so the raw soundboard gives the impression of the band who wasn't at the top of their game. However, when the drums and bass are fleshed out and brought to the forefront, the performance becomes far more interesting and impressive.

Thanks. This show was a bit of a surprise because I usually skip the part of the '75 tour when Robert was sick because I just don't like his voice during that period. However, I figured I'd give it a shot recently and I'm glad I did. I really like the '75 versions of Dazed and Confused, so it was cool to hear one I'd only listened to once or twice before.

Thanks. The thing I really like about bringing out the low end is that not only does it give the bass more impact, but it also makes it easier to tell which drum Bonzo is hitting. In a lot of recordings it sounds like he's just playing his snare drum, but when the low end is brought up you can tell the snare from the toms and the toms from the kick drum, which makes it easier to fully appreciate the complexity of the patterns he's playing.

Also interesting that Bonzo has a single kick drum. There is a photo of him playing a few days earlier in Wallingford, Connecticut with two kicks.

Thanks. Hearing more of the low end really makes it obvious how awesome this must have been to experience in the arena during the show. At the blistering volume Zep played at, Jonsey's bass and Bonzo's kick drum would have been pounding everyone in the chest. I wish I had been there.
