  1. You can't miss that homecoming, Virginia. Will this be her first one? When my boys were in high school and went to homecoming, all the parents and kids met at one house and everyone took pictures before the kids left for dinner and the dance. Then the parents had their own party. It was fun. The girls at my boys' school wore formal dresses to the homecoming dances, almost like prom. In my day, the girls wore skirts and sweaters or pantsuits to the homecoming dance. Now, the girls go all out, getting their hair and nails done, wearing long dresses. The boys did not wear suits, lol, to homecoming. They just wore khaki pants and sweaters, even though the girls went all out in getting dressed up . I hope that your daughter has a great time! And I can't say that I blame you about the Taylor Swift concert. Even though she is lovely and has a lovely voice, I can't handle country music, LOL.
  2. Hi tyedye! Yes, the pics are of Metallica. I saw them on September 15, 2009, in Cincinnati. It, too, was a great concert. I am going to see them again on Thursday in Cleveland! Can't wait! I wonder what their cover song will be this time? It was a Queen song in Cincinnati. Stone Cold Crazy.
  3. I am so sorry for your loss, Ally. I hope that everyone is doing as well as can be expected at this sad time. My condolences and prayers for you and your family.
  4. I hope that you are able to do something special. You deserve to have a bit of a treat. I think that you will like IMGL movie. Seeing Jimmy so happy will definitely cheer you up! And hearing him play LOUD and seeing Headley Grange will make you happy. I hope that you will be able to go see it.
  5. I can't believe it, but I am going to see Metallica again next week in Cleveland at the Quicken Loan Arena!! My oldest son just called and said that he got a tip from the Metallica fan club that extra tickets for the Cleveland concert were going on sale today. So he bought two, and asked me to go with him. Now all I have to do is rearrange my patient schedule so that I can go. It will be an up and back trip from Columbus to Cleveland on the same day, a trip of about 3 hours one way, so that my son doesn't have to miss any classes. I am dreading that journey. But it will be great to see Metallica again. My son says that he fears that they won't be touring the US for a long while after this tour is over, so he wants to see them while he has the opportunity. The opportunity may never come again, who knows.
  6. Fantastic News Charles! How are you going to celebrate?
  7. Hi Kashmir330, I would have thought that you would be a Cincinnati fan, as Hamilton is almost a suburb of Cinci. My boys are huge Cincinnati Bengals fans, and they HATE the Browns. So they are very happy that the Bengals beat the Browns, 23 - 20 in OT.
  8. Good news! A person doesn't appreciate the ease of travel these days until you have to go without the simple luxury of having a car that we have become accustomed to taking for granted. 50 years ago, it would be rare that people would travel a distance of one or two hours on a regular basis. Hope that you now get to see more of each other, slave.
  9. In this last picture, if you look at the brick wall on the interior, you will notice that the horizontal grout is prominent, while the vertical grout is not as noticible, making the wall have a horizontal striped feel to it. FLW used lighter colored grout on the vertical joints of his brick walls to create an emphasis on the horizontal lines of the wall. A distinguishing feature of the Prarrie design is the emphasis of low, horizontal reliefs. If you notice the floor, the same grout was used on all of the joints, so you don't get that horizontal prominence that you do on the walls. I learned this on my tour. This picture demonstrates a good example of FLW's emphasis of the horizontal line in his "prarrie" architecture. Edited to add: The top picture shows a "cantilevered" overhang, which is another distinguishing feature of FLW designs. It hangs over without support. Fallingwater, the famous house in Pennsylvania, is built as a cantilever over the river and waterfall. Edited again to say that I think that I mean "mortar", not "grout". LOL
  10. Woops! Sorry! Now I see it as a porch.
  11. I got my braces off today! Funny story about IMGL, Zeppfanforever! I can't imagine anyone drinking and smoking weed in the theater that I saw it at! There were only about 30 people in the theater, and most were older people. Finally looks like Boise State is getting some respect, Mandy! Charles, you do look dwarfed by those humongous football players, LOL. I bet it was great to meet them. Wish for you that it was under more pleasant circumstances. Those buildings definitely have the Frank Lloyd Wright aura, ebk. Thanks for posting them. That one picture looks like it has dog kennels in the fenced in area? I am glad that everyone likes FLW, as I do! Edited to say: I am also happy today because my youngest son just told me that he got all A's, a 4.0 GPA for 15 credits of English classes that he took at the University of Greenwich this summer. YAY! His grades were just posted. He loved his professors at Geenwich, and learned alot from his six weeks living in London. So it was worth all the money that it cost us, LOL.
  12. Hi Ninelives , That house is the quintessence of Frank Lloyd Wright design. The house has been exquisitely restored, with a magnificent interior and gardens. If you click on some of the links at the bottom of the wiki link that I posted, you can see pictures of the restoration. And check out this link from the Westcott House Foundation. If you explore it, you can see more photos of the house. http://www.westcotthouse.org/ Edited to say: I have visited Wright's Taliesan West in Phoenix. It was beautiful, but I believe that I liked the Westcott House better. Also, the Metropolitan Art Museum in New York City has a complete room from a Frank Lloyd Wright house assembled in one of the galleries. It is lovely. If you ever go to the Met, make it a point to visit it. It is in an out of way, hard to find place. Just ask one of the docents there and they will direct you to it.
  13. My husband and I took a tour of a lovely restored Frank Lloyd Wright Prarrie House. It was beautiful. I really like the Prarrie Style of Architecture. The house was set up for a wedding and reception to be held later. What a fantastic place to get married. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westcott_House It inspired me to work in my flower garden today.
  14. Same weather here in Ohio, Roxie. I too wish it was like this all year round. I don't really like hot weather.
  15. Hi Virginia, I had one of those three day headaches in July. I thought that it was a migraine, which I occassionally get, but my migraine medication did not help the headache as it usually does. It turned out that I had a viral infection, probably the flu, maybe the swine flu, as I later developed extreme body aches and a fever. Nothing would relieve the headache. You could possibly have the flu. Hope that you feel better soon. Nothing is worse, in my opinion, than a severe headache. It makes me non-functional.
  16. Any tips on how to post the photos? I keep getting an error message saying "You are not permitted to use that image extension." Or something like that. I am using the html code on photobucket and the inset image icon. I tried the inset media link, and that didn't work either. Please help!
  17. Hi Danny and everyone! As promised, here is my report of the Metallica concert: It was awesome! This was the second show of this leg of their tour, and they were well rested and ready to rock and roll. They opened with That Was Just Your Life and a great lasar light show. They played Enter Sandman, as well as all of my favorites, including One, The Unforgiven, Master of Puppets, and Nothing Else Matters. The crowd was very loud and on fire. So was the band! James' voice was a little different, not as growlish. But still the vocals were good, and he had alot of banter with the audience. Metallica really respects their audience. At the end of the show, they stayed on stage for another 15 minutes or so, greeting the fans, passing out drum sticks and guitar picks to those near the stage. It was after 11:30 PM and they didn't want to leave. By the way, you can download this concert on livemetallica.com, according to my son, who is downloading it as I speak, LOL. I won't spoil it for those who are going to see them by telling about all the special things that they did. It was a great concert. I have been trying to post some pictures taken with my little camera that I managed to get into the venue. I am having trouble with this site in posting the pictures. I will keep trying. Just a note. The venue in Cincinnati, US Bank Arena, is the former Riverfront Colisseum, the site of the infamous Who concert in 1979 where several fans were trampled to death. I have been there before, but it was a little bit creepy. The place probably holds alot of ghosts. They were really rocking out last night. (No dsrespect meant for those who died in the tragedy. But I do believe in ghosts.)
  18. Hey Reggie29, You must be the first one on your block to get this book! Isn't today the official release date? (September 15th arrived in Australia first, LOL). Let us know how you liked it.
  19. Thanks. I may even try to sneak in my small compact camera and get a few photos, although they probably won't be that great with that camera. The concert venue is on the Ohio River, and maybe I'll get a few photos of it to post. Anyway, I will give a review when I return.
  20. Thanks, Danny. Enter Sandman is my favorite Metallica song. I have to play it over and over. I can't just play it once. Drives my sons crazy, LOL. They like the more obscure songs from the earlier albums. You know that they have to play this song, as it is probably their most famous.
  21. This is so horrible, ally. You must still be in shock, seeing him drive off like that and knowing that he's not coming back. My condolences to you and his family. These accidents are usually not the motorcyclist's fault. Auto drivers can be so reckless around motorcycles.
  22. I am going to see Metallica tomorrow in Cincinnati with my sons. I bet there won't be too many families at this concert, LOL. I don't know if I am up for this head-banging event. I will definitely take my ear plugs. I really do like Metallica. I am sure that my oldest son will buy this concert recording that the band offers on-line. I've listened to the recording of the Columbus concert from last October, and it was great! It will be an interesting experience as I have never been to any metal concerts before. No cameras are allowed, so I won't be posting any pics of this concert. After getting caught recording the Eric Clapton/Steve Winwood concert, I am not even going to take my camera to this one.
  23. Congrats to you, eternal light and Virginia. Beautiful suncatchers, Fan_S. I can see a glimpse of the big city (Brooklyn) through your window.
