  1. I sat in front of the tele today to get caught up on the impending wedding of William and Kate Friday April 29th (11am UK Time).

I was watching the wall to wall coverage on BBC America. I know the many other TV and cable channels will be covering the wedding and the run-up to it, but it was nice to spend a leisurely Sunday afternoon watching about 4 hours worth of video.

So the Prince and his bride to be are already living together. Well, that's pretty representative of how many couples are before tieing the knot.

Here's some fun in speculation on Royal titles, or lack thereof, regarding this marriage (from Wiki):

The footnote numbers are left in.... :)

    Title upon marriage

There is only one case of the oldest surviving son of the Prince of Wales marrying before his father succeeded to the throne: the future George V who married Mary of Teck in 1893. He had already been created Duke of York a year earlier, shortly after the death of his older brother brought him directly in line of succession to the throne.

In recent years, several royal princes who did not already have a title were given one upon marriage, including Prince Andrew, who was created Duke of York when he married in 1986.[58] In a break with precedent[59] Prince Edward was created Earl of Wessex; at the same time it was announced that he will be given the title Duke of Edinburgh when that title, currently held by his father, reverts to the Crown.[60][61] According to The Daily Telegraph, it is expected that William will be offered a dukedom on his marriage, allowing his wife to be styled as a duchess.[62][63] In an interview with This is Sussex, Charles Kidd, editor of Debrett's, said that the title most likely to be bestowed on Prince William on the eve of his wedding was Duke of Sussex, although he added that other available dukedoms are Windsor, Clarence, Cambridge, Kendal, Avondale, and Strathearn.[64][65]

In Letters Patent dated 21 August 1996 (shortly after the divorce of the Prince and Princess of Wales) it was acknowledged that "by convention the wife of the son of a sovereign of these Realms the wife of a son of a son of a Sovereign and the wife of the eldest living son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales is entitled to the style title or attribute of Royal Highness".[66] If William were not given a title then, after the wedding, Middleton would, by convention, be known as Her Royal Highness Princess William of Wales[62] taking her husband's first name on marriage (as with Princess Michael of Kent).[61] If however William is given a title, she would be known as "Her Royal Highness the Duchess [or other rank if appropriate] of N".

In December 2010, it was reported in The Daily Telegraph that William did not wish to receive a dukedom, preferring to remain simply "Prince William" while also wanting Middleton to become "Princess Catherine". It was suggested that this caused a dilemma for the Queen because princesses traditionally receive such titles through birth instead of marriage. If the Queen does break tradition, royal biographer Kenneth Rose believes Princess Michael of Kent would then also ask for a non-traditional title like "Princess Marie-Christine" too.[67]

  3. I've always preferred Guns'N'Roses live cover of "Live And Let Die" to Paul's good original version.

Van Halen has covered "Pretty Woman", "Beautiful Girls" and "Happy Trails" ("YRGM" sorry, not my cup of tea.)

Heart does well on "The Battle Of Evermore":

  4. After discovering Hard Rock music in October of 1969 (with LZ II), I then came across other Hard Rock/Prpgressive bands, like Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, ELP, Jethro Tull, and Grand Funk Railroad.

My very first GFR LP was the 2-Disc compilation MARK, DON & MEL:1969-1971. I played it all the time. Songs like Are You Ready, Inside Looking Out, Mean Mistreater, Loneliness, and Heartbreaker were my favorites.

I also like many of the songs on their 1975 live LP, CAUGHT IN THE ACT, especially Footstompin 'Music, Black Licorice, The Railroad, & Shinon' On.

I got to see GFR on three occasions. Once in 1972, 1973 (with Craig Frost), and in 1996? for their Reunion tour. I have never seen any of the other incarnations of the band, solo, or otherwise.

In '72, GFR's live show was still all Hard Rock. But by 1973, there was a definite Pop-Rock feel to their shows, glitz, if you will. Over time, I accept all of it, and enjoy the good of what they presented.

I also really enjoyed their appearance on ABC's IN CONCERT program from a MSG gig of Dec. 23, 1972. That was something to see, pre Don Kirshner's Rock Concert show.

Lots of great GFR memories. :)

This year's list of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees offers a musical cornucopia of styles. From the New Orleans boogie-woogie voodoo soul of Dr. John to Tom Waits' boho preacher-poet performance art, Neil Diamond's overwrought pop histrionics, Darlene Love's girl-group R&B and Alice Cooper's goth/glam rock theater of the macabre, the Hall of Fame class of 2011 is set to take the stage for their honors on Monday, March 14 at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York City.

White Zombie frontman Rob Zombie will induct Alice Cooper into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during the 2011 induction ceremonies March 14 in New York City. Neil Young will do the same for 2011 inductee Tom Waits.

The Rock Hall released its official list of 2011 presenters Tuesday morning.

    Here’s the complete inductee-presenter list:

Alice Cooper: Rob Zombie (White Zombie)

    Neil Diamond: Paul Simon

    Dr. John: John Legend

    Darlene Love: Bette Midler

    Tom Waits: Neil Young

Jac Holzman: John Densmore (The Doors)

    Art Rupe: Lloyd Price

    Leon Russell: Elton John

The 2011 induction ceremony will be held Monday, March 14 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. An edited version of the ceremony will be broadcast at 9 p.m. on Sunday, March 20 on cable TV channel Fuse.

With the exception of Waits, all of the inductees are first-time nominees. While all are probably popping corks now, that means, of course, that a number of younger acts didn't make the list. These include multiple nominees the Beastie Boys and LL Cool J, first-time nominee Bon Jovi and veteran acts J. Geils Band, Donna Summer and Chic.

Cooper, 62, whose onstage theatrics include macabre set pieces such as guillotines and gallows, told Billboard that he felt it was about time his band got a nod. "I've always felt the same way about this whole thing," said Cooper, whose classic hits includes "I'm Eighteen" and "School's Out," teenage rebellion anthems for the ages recorded by a band he started 45 years ago in high school. "I kind of sat back and said, 'It will happen eventually.' "

  6. Mubarak Is Rumored To Have Fallen Into A Coma After His Final Speech

Hosni Mubarak is said to have collapsed soon after his last public address on Thursday. By Saturday night he was in a full coma, according to al-Masry al-Youm.

This story is unconfirmed, but according to Al Arabiya it uses reliable sources.

Mubarak is said to be be receiving treatment in Sharm El Sheikh.

Suddenly declining health could be one reason for the sudden resignation on Friday -- which was given notably by Vice President Omar Suleiman.

  7. Today's over-the-air music radio, more than ever before is programmed for the banal ignorant masses, for the purpose of advertisers that need and are willing to pay to reach all the bulk of the ignorant masses, whatever genre of music they (the ignorant masses) are willing to listen to.

The "other" music stations, non-commercial and the like, play such weird and obtuse music, they are pointless, as well.

I saw something at the Fry's Electronics the other day.... a tabletop Wi-Fi radio that allows you to access more than 11,000 internet radio stations in 150 countries.

One would think that you could find better playlists on Internet Radio than on over-the-air corporate conglomerate "terrestrial" radio.

Here's one for under a $100: Aluratek AIRMM01 Internet Radio Alarm Clock with built-in WiFi

  8. Thanks DavidZoso for getting some 1977 pics that really show the shape of the pyramid. It didn't photograph all that well, but man, was it ever a sight to see in person !!!!

Toward the end of the bowing, the pyramid begins whirling, but at the beginning of the bowing, the green laser pyramid is just "there" and the smoke on the stage 'appears' to be captured in each side( or wall)l of the pyramid. I personally saw lots of different images 'captured' in the smoke in the walls of the pyramid. Dinosaur creatures I believe. :) Then, as Jimmy would give the big strikes of the bow to the Les Paul, the green laser pyramid would spin once to another side of the pyramid.

Some pyramid photos are from The Firm's concerts. Jimmy used the pyramid definitely on the first Firm tour. The effect was greater on the '77 tour, as ALS followed it. But then, the 1977 Tour had many great moments on any one of their better nights !!

  9. I have grown to like and appreciate "Carouselambra". Time allows me to judge ITTOD on its own, and -not- as against any other Zeppelin release.

Looking back, I would have hoped that "Carouselambra" would have been played on Zep's '80-'81 US Tour.... Even in place of.....yes, ALS....

I've mellowed over time, and if that "Magical" Zeppelin "Reunion" ever takes place, I would hope that "Carouselambra" and other tracks I've never seen live before would be included. That would be fun ! ! :)

When "Carouselambra" originally came out in 1979, I didn't get it... But, I do now

  10. Alice, a guy that left "his" band giving advice to a guy to go back to "his" band....

Alice is still cool. Hoping for a rocking band performance for the RRHOF !

There will never, never be a suitable replacement for Robert Plant. There is no one, no one on the planet that can sing Led Zeppelin like Robert Plant.

So, Robert has moved on, and that really really means the death of Led Zeppelin live. Without Robert, there is no Led Zeppelin.

So whatcha gonna do.... you're gonna hope that Robert has a change of heart, but when Robert says he's moved on... well, that's it.

Robert, go with your heart baby.... your were the best and only vocalist Led Zeppelin ever had.

  11. Jack Nicholson.

    Nicholson is tops with me.
