  1. Coach Mike Tomlin, God Bless him, he got it right, when he said they were coming to play in Dallas.

SB 45 is in Dallas (with the technicality of the stadium being in Arlington).

In 2014 the SB will be played in "NY" (though technically the stadium is in New Jersey).

  2. "TSRTS" gets my top vote, because it does double duty for me, as it was used as the opening number for the 1977 US Tour, and as there is NO official live recording from 1977, then 1973's will do, to take me back in time... to 1977, where I like to live and play, when I'm not in 1975, or 1970... :)

My other favs to listen to from TSRTS are:

    NO QUARTER

    OTHAFA

    THE RAIN SONG

    SIBLY

    PARTS OF DAZED AND CONFUSED

  3. I have never read all of Huck Finn. I'm really not a novel reader. I like to watch movies made from novels though... :)

But, as to the changing of the word "N" to the word "slave" in the Samuel Clemens book, what was said on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart made me think that it's not a good thing to change that word in that book.

The point was made on the show that the black man in the book was a slave who had run away, hence a man that is no longer a slave in his own eyes.

But, by using the "N" word, Twain makes the point, that you can run away from being a slave, but, in that world and time, you could not outrun the stigma of being a "N", according to way society thought of you.

So changing how the black man is referred to a "slave", takes away from the impact of him being referred to as "N".

But that said.... especially as we move forward into the book-reading i-pad age.... It should be simple enough to be able to electronically substitute the "N" word for any word of your choice, as well as: shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker, tits, and G-D and JC used as swear words, etc, etc.

In other words, electronically, you can be your own Big Brother !!

Bty, you can read Huck Finn online here:

  4. I have the Blu-ray and I imagine (as with probably many films) it probably hard to tell between up-converted DVD picture and blu-ray. If you already have the DVD I dont think its worth upgrading unless you have a very very good system as It also has Dolby Digital HD and DTS-HD and if you have a stereo like I do then thats also desirable.

Yes, I find the DTS sound on the Blu-ray most satisfying.

  5. For the folks in the NE US and other snowbound areas....

The NE radio stations should be playing Zeppelin's live version of "No Quarter" over the next nights....

But, really, expecting any US corporate rock radio station to be able to be "musically" relevant, is really asking way too much of that industry....

  6. They could also remove or soften every reference in the Twain book to murdering and killing and kidnapping, to make the reading more acceptable for children.

Being exposed to violent thoughts is certainly just as bad as being exposed to racial slurs, isn't it!

Next, they will remove all curse words from "Who's Afraid Of Virginia Wolf".

So that it can be included in the Jr. High reading list.

  7. My mistake! I must remind myself never to post from memory. Led Zeppelin were indeed the first to lease it, and many followed.

According to this link the retrofitting was done in Oakland, CA.

There's an outside chance that it was during Zep's 1975 Dallas-Ft.Worth stop that my Dad said he saw the plane. I do know that Love Field can do maintenance on large aircraft. I wish my Dad was still here to ask, but he passed away in 2006 at the age of 86.

As an aside to the Dallas 1975 stop, I asked my Dad to call someone at the Love Field Tower the day after the first Dallas show, to see where Zep went to. They told my Dad that Zep's plane filed a flight plan to New Orleans. I think he said the plane left around 1:30am. I do remember seeing Jimmy & Robert jump into the back of a Custom Van to leave the Dallas Memorial Auditorium. Boy, would I have liked to be along for that trip !!

  8. Hi Rover, I don't have any hard data or references to give you but I'm fairly certain I remember Zep started to use the Starship for the first time in Chicago.

Curious thing is... before the Dallas show on May 18, 1973, my father, a commercial airline pilot, flying in and out of Dallas Love Field, remarked to me that he "saw your group's plane at the airport". What I do not now know is if he saw The Starship, or another plane that might have had "Zeppelin" painted on it.

I do know that Dallas Love Field had hangers big enough to work on planes the size of the Starship. Perhaps the Starship was at Love Field to have something done to it, before Zeppelin took it over. Does anyone where the Starship was prepped for Zeppelin's use of it in 1973?

  9. Interesting. I don't think Robert wore sunglasses at Kezar Stadium. Besides, I'm almost positive Jimmy did not wear a bandana at any time during that gig. Please try to post

    the photos again.

Edit: The Oct 1973 issue of 'Creem' featured Led Zeppelin on the cover, and the feature article was 'Led Zeppelin - Six Reasons Why They Are Bigger Than The Beatles'. I don't have a copy to review, but the reference to Beatles suggests record-breaking Tampa gig. Of course, this assumes this is the issue you are referring to.

Steve, I believe, that is, I remember the article 'Led Zeppelin - Six Reasons Why They Are Bigger Than The Beatles' as being published in CIRCUS magazine and not Creem. I had a subscription to Circus at the time.

I will say that is a shame to Circus that they did not get better and more pictures to publish of Led Zeppelin on Tour in ,73, 75, and '77.

When you look at how Circus magazine has covered bands like Slipknot over the years, with many, many articles and many, many photos through the years, the attention heaped on a band like that, as compared to what the editors gave one the world's truly great Rock'n'Roll bands, Led Zeppelin, is insulting, to this fan. Even if Circus couldn't get interviews as of ten as they'd like, they could certianly go to the concerts and report on them. It just shows how Circus was in some respects just one step above a publication like Hit Parader, imo.

    ----------------------------------------------------

    I have a 1973 Starship Question:

When in 1973 did Zeppelin begin using the Starship?

In the Bonus footage found in TSRTS, the local news coverage of the 1973 Tampa event shows Zeppelin arriving in a small private jet, and not the Starship.

  10. Yes, my search of "Blu-Ray" did not pull up this thread either.

Here's what I want to releate about the Blu-Ray of TSRTS....

I found that the picture was grainy-looking, and I don;t remember that from the previous versions.... what do you think ? ? ?

But then I had never watched TSRTS on a 42" 1080p flatscreen before.

But, I have watched footage from the re-mastered DVD on You Tube, and I do not remember seeing the grainy effect there... but perhaps that's from viewing it on a 19" smaller computer screen. Or maybe it's my flatsreen's picture settings..... although "other" things viewed on the 42" have not looked "grainy".

What I do remember is this.... at a midnight showing of TSRTS, in the early 1980's, I saw a print that was just spectacular in color. More color than I had ever remembered seeing of that film before. It was like... wow, this is a very special print of this film. I do not remember that film looking grainy. I am some day going to compare the "DVD" version of TSRTS to see if it also grainy.

I could also play with my TV's video settings.... but I really don't like having to adjust sharpness or contrast for just one disc...

  11. I saw the lunar eclipse before and after the moon was in the earth's shadow.

With the naked eye and binoculars, the gradual darkening of the moon was greatly more impressive to view, than the moon actually darkened.

So, the funnest part for me, was before the moon was fully eclipsed !

  12. Awesome Moonrise tonight ! !

BIGDAN, you should have hid your stash on the dark side of the Moon, as we have done so for time memorial.

Will be looking up around 2am this Tuesday Morning.

  13. As an aside to this topic, I just discovered a feature today with my VLC Media Player.

When I play a song with the VLC Media Player, there is a "<" and a ">" on either end of the line, that shows the progress of the track being played, and if, you click on the "<" once, then the track is slowed down, and ergo, you can listen to try and make out what is being said, if you're not sure of what's being spoken or sung.

If you have this feature on your media player, try using it, just for fun anyway.... :D

  15. Not me either...$18 grand worth of drum kit is one hell of a prize. Congrats to the winner

Well, there's hope for a second drawing if no one claims the prize... :)

If the holder of the laminate umvq4339 does not come forward within 30 days after December 1, 2010, a new winner will be drawn.

  16. There was father and -two- sons sitting beside me at the Dallas show. The dad sorta looked like Eddie Van Halen did on their most recent tour (but it wasn't Eddie..)

For anyone that purchased the Ludwig Fundraiser laminate at any of the shows, the winning code number for the Ludwig Vistalite kit has not yet been posted on the JBLZE site, as of an hour ago.

Please, if you see the winning number posted, please post it here !

    Thanks ! !
