  1. For what it's worth I'd like to chip in the following in the soldier/terrorist debate. When U.S. forces put Bin Laden out of his misery, and if I remember correctly, twelve children and three of his wives were also in the building. No fatalities took place among them,as we all know one wife was shot in the leg.Never happened to me,probably not a pleasent experience, but not in itself a life threatener.I would call this a professional job done by these soldiers.Today (Friday) two suicide bombers, members of the Pakistan Taliban apparently, blew themselves up in a Pakistani town.Eighty,I'll say that again, eighty poor individuals are now dead thanks to this act of barbarism with probably more to follow.Among them will be women and children. That is terrorism, may the sub humans who carried it out rot in hell.
  2. I am very happy to second all of that and I'd also like to say,as a civilian in the U.K.,thanks to your son.
  3. I hadn't put two and two together, then last week my wife said pretty much exactly what you said.I think that it is entirely feasible that any royal honeymoon would be postponed under the circumstances of that weekend. In the eyes of some he is the future King of a "crusader" nation that is an ally of the U.S. and all that implies.Britain also has many historic ties with Pakistan.
  4. Good luck feller, keep that chin up.
  5. Don't be too concerned FireOpal,when Germany say's "jump",France say's "how high?".
  6. Good advert for Photoshop, duped me.
  7. Thanks again for the reply, but once again nothing in your answer backs up your statement about the west exporting corruption to the middle east.I am not harping on about this to be pedantic, you made a statement and I am truly interested in what facts or opinions draw you to come to the conclusion you have.I want to know.Of course you don't have to explain more if you choose not to,as you've said above, but I'd like to know all the same.I'll not post again on this topic,so the floor is yours.Good luck to you and yours.
  8. Hoax?Well it was a bloody good one, fell for it hook, line and sinker.
  9. Briefly on either Saturday or Sunday just passed,a neck up photo was shown on either the main BBC newspage or The Telegraph (a British newspaper) newspage showing what perported to be a photo of the dead bin Laden. The body was obviously showing trauma to the left eye,in truth it looked more like a black eye with subsequent swelling than anything else.It was not gory at all and, having seen the photo myself,I would say that it was definately the man they were after.
  10. Spidersandsnakes,I could see you were online so I thought you would reply quickly. Thanks for that, but you have not aswered my point about your original post. You've mentioned the states above having "ties to the western world".Of course they have, every country in the world is now interconnected to many others in a million ways. That fact in itself proves nothing. As for Mubarak and his Swiss bank occounts, well are you surprised?Islamic banks do not allow the acrueing of interest,so Mubarak, like so many other despots with their eyes on their wallets decides to shop somewhere else.Who is world renowned for both healthy interest payments and secrecy? The land of the yodel. You've mentioned the Egyptian people getting "..sick and tired of it all" regarding Mubarak's ties to the west, but that did not start the recent uprising in that country. What kicked it off was the suicide of a young student,if I remember correctly, who killed himself in despair at the lack of economic opportunities in his country. It has spread to other country's from that fact.In essence they want what we in Britain,America, europe,Australia,Canada and Japan, etc all already have and take for granted. They want freedom and they want a future decided by themselves.Anyway, that you and I know and would probably agree on,but I would still like you to explain about the corruption you feel that the west has dumped on the middle east and how it has effected them.I cannot see it myself, but I'll read your argument for.By the way,RIGHT-WING is two words ,and have you bought that Patti Smith photo book yet ?Good luck.
  11. Never mind the three examples I gave to you, which you haven't bothered mentioning,I would love you to explain how the west has/is exporting its own type of corruption to the states you've mentioned.I'm of the opinion that the west has,in the main, exported civilisation to these countries, you will probably not agree and your free to do so,but explain to me about,as you see it,the corrupting influence of the west on these states and their people.Let's not go on about RIGHT WING again either as western governments have been of all sorts of politcal persuasions over the last, say, seventy or eighty years.
  12. Western style corruption?Spidersandsnakes, you have got to be joking.Surely what the people you mentioned have suffered under and are sick of is islamic totalatarian corruption. You know the one,no free elections, states of emergency lasting decades, all the top government jobs handed out to members of the rulers family, etc. What these people want is really what we in the civilised world take for granted. It's called freedom.I hope they get it and hold on to it.
  13. I agree with you about this not being the end, probably a long way from it.But ideologies can certainly be defeated. Both nazism and communism were both discredited and defeated and islamic totalatarianism will go the same way.The west has a huge part to play in its defeat but maybe the people who really defeat it will be those in islamic country's who have risen up recently and made plain that they want change.
  14. Pakistan deserves the most severe scrutiny now.It is inconceivable to me that knowledge of the whereabouts of this deceased barbarian was not known to those in authority there.I would also question why your government, the U.S.,and mine, the U.K.,feel the need to supply this regime with millions of dollars/pounds in aid when their attitude has appeared so ambivalent towards islamic terrorism. This aid should be stopped immediately. As I've already posted, well done U.S.A.Today is indeed a good day.
  15. Great news,WELL DONE U.S.A.
  16. I haven't got any links but I love listening to John Fahey and the inconpairable Mississippi John Hurt.

    ANZAC Day

It could not be better put than the way Ally has put it above.I'll just echo it.
  18. Jimi Hendrix,'Am I Blue'.It's one of those grey area cd's but the sound quality is terrific and the guitar is just, well,Jimi Hendrix.
  19. I'm not sure off the top of my head when the lady married Fred Smith, but all the shots are confined to the 1969 -'76 period. There are certainly none of them together in the book. It's virtually all Patti at home alongside some photo's of her with Robert Mapplethorpe, Sam Shepard and one each with Tom Verlaine and Richard Sohl.As I've said, some terrific images among them.I saw her and the band just the once, during '78 in Cardiff, and she was fantastic, one of the best gigs I ever went to.
  20. Your welcome, some stunning images of the lady.If your a fan you won't be disappointed.
  21. 'Patti Smith 1969 - 1976 (photographs by Judy Linn)'.Terrific.
  22. Your welcome friend.I don't know why,but the only Taste material I have is a cd best of that was released a couple of years ago,it does though include a few of the songs that you mentioned above. The album illustrates the versatility of Rory that you mentioned and this post will probably spur me on to get some of those Taste albums that I have missed out on over the years. You mentioned "On The Boards" having it all, well I've always thought that throughout his career,Rory Gallagher simply had it all.The man could do anything,he'd probably have made a good job of blowing the bagpipes. To illustrate my point,my Rory Gallagher top five would probably include things like"Messin' With The Kid","If I Had A Reason","Continental Op","Should Have Learnt My Lesson" and "Edged In Blue".Among that lot you've got rock, blues,a walzt tempo tune and a rock ballad! If you wanted to include things like "Calling Card"(a jazz flavoured classic) or any of the many solo acoustic tunes that he did that had touches of the blues or country music in them, they all show what a master of pretty much any genre of music Rory Gallagher was. By the way,I can remember that other "Old Grey Whistle Test" appearance that you mentioned,I think the band also did a terrific version of "Hands Off" as well.I liked the Gallagher/Mc Avoy/Campbell band, but for me the top line up behind Rory Gallagher would always be Gerry McAvoy/Rod De'ath/and particularly Lou Martin. With the addition of keyboards, the bands sound really opened up.As I've said before,a hugely underrated musician who is sadly missed.Cheers.
  23. Ditto to Danelectro59's posting,he has taken most of the words right out of my mouth.I can remember seeing Rory Gallagher on the 'Old Grey Whistle Test' back in in the very early seventies, the programme showed a clip of a gig and him performing 'Messin' With The Kid' and,I think,'I Could Have Had Religion'.I was about fourteen at the time and I thought he was fantastic. The first record I ever had by any artist was Rory's 'Live In Europe' and I was hooked ever since.I still feel he was hugely underated both as a singer and songwriter.Sadly missed.
  24. "The Untouchables" season two.Classic.
  25. Some of my favourite covers? Patti Smith - Hey,Joe. Patti Smith - Gloria. Jerry Lee Lewis - Money Placebo - Daddy Cool. The Cramps - Anything they covered they made their own.
