  1. I love this pic! They should have made a figurine of Jimmy wearing this instead of the stormtrooper outfit!
  2. I always thought he met Charlotte at his birthday gig at the Royal Albert Hall in 1970- maybe you're thinking of someone else (Lynn Collins maybe)?
  3. Thanks Steve for sharing Jimmy's note from your collection- it was cool to see the vision that Jimmy had for the laser pyramid during the bow solo!
  4. That's James Hetfield, the singer. Don't know his exact height but yes he is tall.
  5. I always thought he said "excitement, man" and was surprised when I saw "Satan and man" on a lyrics site.
  6. Just wanna say- I LOVE this thread! Thanks ladies & Evster for all the great pics!
  7. Joe Bonamassa is the next show I'm seeing, at BB King's in October. I saw Steve Miller Band at Radio City on July 10th, great show. Joe Cocker opened- he was fantastic!
  8. In the 80s, I went to all the "record collecting shows" on Long Island, and in November 1985 (yeah I keep notes on this stuff) bought at one of these shows a vinyl boot called "Inedits" which was studio outtakes from the fourth album. Since all the other Zeppelin boots I knew about were live material, this record piqued my interest. I don't know whether this record had been out for very long or not, but by late 1985 it seems that Jimmy's tapes had already been stolen.
  9. I read in the paper today about Friday night's show & Billy had some great guests: Paul McCartney Steven Tyler Roger Daltrey Tony Bennett Garth Brooks Quite a treat for those who were there- I think when the DVD comes out I'll have to check it out!
  10. Well, since I'm a diehard Mets fan (who is not going to see him), he better change it to- "and the Metswin the pennant every time"!! I don't "loathe" him like you do, but as a fellow Long Islander, I am a little tired of his music after hearing it played over & over for the last 30 years.
  11. ITA about Rick, great guy- got to meet him at the 1988 Meadowlands Zep Convention. I bought a lot from his auctions in the 80's. Thanks Steve for sharing some stuff from your archive! I bet your home must be the size of a warehouse to hold all that wonderful memorabilia!
  12. I had to laugh when I saw this flyer warning about the fake backstage passes: when I was (much) younger, my best friend & I had tickets for The Firm, and we came up with the crazy idea of making our own backstage passes. Since I was the more artistic one, I was the one that made them- I drew the Firm logo on a black background, printed "Backstage Access" underneath & then had them laminated. They looked good from a distance but not close up. After the show we approached the stage where one of the road crew was & held up our "passes"- he was nice not to laugh at us & pointed to where we should go to. We went over there but we chickened out. As we were starting to leave, 2 girls younger than us saw the passes & said "wow you have backstage passes! do you know Jimmy Page?" I said to them "if I knew Jimmy Page do you think I would be standing here right now!"
  13. Did Physical Graffiti play at the 1988 Led Zeppelin Convention in New Jersey? I remember seeing 2 tribute bands there and I think they might have been one of them.
  14. On to Belmont!!! The replay from the overhead view was amazing- the way Big Brown just took off when he hit the top of the stretch, it almost looked like he doubled the length of his stride, makng the other horses look like they were just standing still- beautiful.....
  15. Evster, I've never seen any of Jimmy's artwork- do you have links to any pics?
  16. Those switchplate covers are really cool- never saw those before!
  17. He was clearly the best horse in the race & looked like he wanted to run more- on to the Preakness! So sad for poor Eight Belles, she ran a great race to get second. I am not too much of a betting person but I do love the beautiful horses and I always feel so bad when any of them get hurt. When I was a kid and first got into horse racing, Ruffian was my favorite horse, but her life too ended so soon.
  18. Charismatic (1999) & Thunder Gulch (1995) both started from post 16 so it's possible to win from out there. At least there's a good distance to run before the turn, so if your horse has some early foot you can get a decent position by that point and not be caught too far outside. Still, the auxilliary gate is nobody's choice.
  19. I guess it'll be another 20 horse field this year, hopefully they will draw good post positions next Wednesday. I will probably download the PP's from DRF so I'll have some idea who's who.
  20. I haven't been following horse racing too much this year, but I enjoy it. I always watch the Triple Crown races & the Breeders Cup. Unfortunately the major Long Island newspaper cut back on its horse racing coverage, so I haven't been up to date on this year's contenders, but I heard that War Pass, who was mentioned quite a bit earlier in the year as a possible favorite, will miss the Derby.
  21. The best thing to do would be to get one of those turntables that you can plug into your computer with an USB port, so you can eventually transfer them onto a cd.
  22. I love the Doors too, my husband was the one who got me into them (they are to him what Zeppelin is to me). He likes to sing their songs, we have a karaoke feature on the stereo that takes out the vocals so you don't need a special karaoke cd- he does a great version of "You're Lost Little Girl". My favorite Doors songs (no particular order): Waiting For The Sun Maggie M'Gill Wild Child Strange Days Moonlight Drive the entire first album Wishful Sinful Cars Hiss By My Window Peace Frog
  23. I wish this had existed in the mid 80s when I spent hundreds of dollars on them. Still, it was fun going to the record collector shows with Godwin's book in hand to see if you could find ones you didn't have- and even better, going to the shows and seeing new ones that weren't even in the book!
