Bon is better than Brian technically, but I like them both equally. Brian himself seems to have a huge respect for his predecessor (he won't sing "It's a Long Way to the Top" because it's Bon's signature song). And Bon, who once saw him in a Georgie concert, thought he was great.
-
I honestly thought that people had forgotten that the concert was for Ahmet in the first place. Hell, some people I asked didn't even know who he was! It's nice to see a thread paying tribute to him for once. RIP Mr. Ertegun.

Jimmy scores a nice little thing for his neck... all I get is a pencil... Perhaps it's because it's led. EHHHHHH!
Alright you lucky guys and gals! Ladies and gentlemen... a very serious part of the night has arrived... where I nip off to the dressing room to get a blowjob...
(later on...)
I don't want to present any cliches, but when I was 19, everybody else was a lot older, we got together in a tiny room in London... We didn't have any bread, so it had to be a small room, and we... we got together, and we picked up our instruments, and... uh, the blowjob, by the way, was fantastic!
Um... we picked up our instruments and we said "Right. If this is good, we shall play until the last sunsets in the west." And the first number we got to play on was a number that made us sure that we should carry on.... and on... and on... (audience member: "And on!") It's quite moving, actually. We'd like to dedicate this to our manager, Peter Grant, who's made so many things possible. He's the man who gives us the blowjob in the dressing room!

I forget which show and and the exact quote but Robert is waiting for Jimmy to tune his guitar and makes a quip about how Page's guitar tech is from Scotland and it takes Jimmy longer to tune because he's tuned it in Scottish Always makes me laugh.
He makes a similar quip at Knebworth, where Jimmy was having problems with his amp before the Rain Song, and Plant asks him if it was made in Scotland.
Also around the same moment: "Are ya alrright Jimmah?!"
-
Also, during one of the Earl's Court shows (can't remember which one) during TTW after he sings the line "And all the fish that lay in dirty water dying, had they got you hypnotized........ a fish???". Ha!
Actually, that was the one they used for DVD. They just cut that last part out.

I like these the best:
1. From a show in 1971, Japan...
"Bonzo gone bye, bye. Bonzo gone for bath with Geisha, yes".
2. From 06/21/77 L.A. Forum show:
Percy filling time for Bonzo-
"That was called Kashmir...let me take you there. Bit of
trouble with the musical equipment here. Right now, the
man who fought against the elements. The man who fought
food poisoning. The man who drinks Heineken. The man who
doesn't get out of bed. The man who hasn't got a cymbal.
The man who's having a chat with this man who knows the man
who tunes Jimmy's guitar and comes from Scotland and doesn't
know the man they call Tim... but does know Audrey from
Dallas (thank you). The man who now learns to construct
his own drum kit. The man who's _not_ very professional.
(Shuddup, wait a minute!) The man who said he could go back
to a building site anytime (and we all agreed). The man
who's holding up the show... the Rhinestone Cowgirl. C'mon
Bonzo, get on with it! The man who played the Los Angeles
Aztecs and beat them 10-1 by himself. C'mon, you silly
fucker! The man one wonders: is he worth waiting for? ...
and doesn't realize there's a curfew here. A childhood
friend, a man who many people once said...`never 'eard of
him,' John Bonham Over The Top!!!!"
3. From the 06/10 show in New-York, introducing "The Battle of Evermore"-
"When we recorded this song we got a girl to help sing the
vocals and we are pleased to have her with us tonight.
Ladies and gentlemen, John Paul Jones on vocals. John Paul
Jones on vocals!?"
Sometimes I just wonder how Plant comes up with these, especially the second one.
-
Yeah, he and Page even added a little bit of Break On Through during their tour.

I don't believe there ever was a last reel. From listening to what there is of Heartbreaker....I clearly hear the reel run out of magnetic tape and the leader tape run over the playback heads. It truly is a heartbreaker every time I listen to it.
Well, damn. It could've been the highlight of the show.
-
Is it just me or was the band really "on" for this show? It was probably because of the cameras, but still, I don't believe I've heard any other show was performed so well... It might just be my ears...
All the songs are run through pretty smoothly... Every jam seems to go in the right direction (Dazed & Confused, HMMT, etc.)... I Can't Quit You Baby? Come on. How could that song get any better? Moby Dick is simply incredible... How Many More Times is my absolute most favorite version ever performed/recorded... And how can you not love those Cochran covers? I'm glad we've got the video footage of this show released officially, if nothing else. I wish Heartbreaker was included, however...
And what ever happened to SIBLY? I'm pretty sure it was played that night... Must've been the 2nd or 3rd performance?
I know it's been discussed since 2003 but it's been one of my favorites since all that existed was that muddy ol' soundboard... So what do you guys think of it?
SIBLY was performed, but it was months before they had recorded III. So maybe (to quote the Garden Tapes guy) Jimmy thought it sounded a bit too primitive compared to the MSG one.
And I also wish Heartbreaker was included. Shame they couldn't find the last reel for that.
-
That's "suck" (?)
No, it's definitely fuck. At first, I thought it was "fluck all", but that wouldn't make much sense, now would it?
-
Damn, he's skin and bones!
-
Well they sound quite similar to me. I notice no difference even in plant's vocals.
Hmm, that's strange. He sings the entire song in a lower (and more mellow) tone in TSRTS while in HTWWW his voice is still high and mighty.
-
Some of the new songs in TSRTS were released on The Led Zeppelin DVD weren't they?
Well, Misty Mountain Hop and The Ocean were. Since I've Been Loving You is included, but there are certain parts that are different. And Black Dog has a huge chuck cut out of it.
OTHAFA (and, to some extent, Celebration Day) is all new.
-
Wasn't the track "Over the Hills and Far Away" off the new TSRTS soundtrack the same as the one released on HTWWW?
I personally am a huge fan of BBC Sessions.
Peace
P.S. Moby Dick version off HTWWW kicks ***
No, where did you get that? It's all new. The way you can tell is Plant's vocals.
-
HTWWW gets the slight edge for TSRTS for being a bit more powerful and punchier. Also, there's less edits in the former than the latter.
They're both great though.

There's some new footage on Youtube from a warm-up gig they did last night. From what I've heard, they sound pretty good. They tuned their songs down half a step to give Brian a break; frankly, I think they should've done so back in the 90's, but whatever. Malcolm and Cliff's back up vocals sound a bit rough, but hey, this is a warm-up gig. One thing's for sure, though: Angus is crazy as ever.
A fan also managed to take a photo of what appears to be a complete setlist for the tour:
In case you can't read it:

02. Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be
