  1. My brother called and he says he's coming over to visit tomorrow.
  2. Now that would be the smart thing to do. Be creative and mix it up a bit, but who am I to say this. They probably don't think it's worth their while with two months on the air.
  3. It's quite possible their attitude is to keep repeating everything and not throwing in more variety as this station will only be on until the end of the year. They might feel it's not a priority, so why bother with the effort.
  4. Some covers would definitely throw some life into it. Good ones, bad ones, funny ones. All is good, although at times we hears bits of these.
  5. That's probably because the first time around it was something new and fresh. We got excited about it. Now it's the same as before and maybe a bit tired. Mix it up more. Play more live cuts whether it from BBC, HTWWW, TSRTS or others. Solo material from JP and JPJ is also needed. It needs some life!
  6. Thanks for the info. Glad XM has it on. I cancelled last night, but my subscription goes through November 11th. So, when it ends I'll probably resubscribe. My Sirius one is only a trial one, so no cost to me.
  7. Rain Song from the 1980 "Over Europe" tour is currently playing. Pretty sure it's from Zurich on June 29th. I've had the station on for a few hours now, and this is the first so called rarity I've heard. I love the 1980 versions of this song and this version is one of the best. Something to do with Jonesy's mellotron I guess.
  8. If you have a paid internet subscription to XM, it seems you can't get XM Led. Channel 39 is not listed. Earlier in the year when the station was on XM, it was available via internet. Over on Sirius now however, Channel 12 is available on the internet, so I cancelled my XM subscription and now going for Sirius for this reason.
  9. The last time around they played all the studio stuff from Zeppelin as well as solo. Their official live releases were also included. As far as bootleg material, I did hear selections from Zurich in 1980 and Southampton in 1973. Can anyone recall, if XM played any other unofficial recordings live or studio when XMLed was on the air earlier this year? With this re-launch it's possible something's up. The last time occurred around the time of the O2 concert.
  10. Great reports by Chicago and Led Zep '73. Some wonderful insight, firsthand on these shows and what was going on. Thanks.
  11. You'll have to work on that one I suppose. Be creative if you will. Somehow, you'll find a way...I have faith. Also, I saw an episode of Miami Vice a while back and Robert's Ship of Fools was used during the show. I was also going through some old VHS tapes and I taped something on Fox and there was a promo for Melrose Place. The music was Jimmy's Liquid Mercury.
  12. I thought this would be an interesting top to have in the forum. There doesn't seem to be anything like this here as I searched to find out. I know we have us fans on here, but I'm sure we're aware that there are many celebrities who are fans of this seminal band as well. If you know of someone famous who is a fan of Led Zeppelin provide their name and a possible tidbit, article or quote backing this up when possible. There are also those who are famous are not fans and have come out and said that as well. I think it would be good if we could hear that side as well. I actually went to high school with a famous musician. He actually lived on the same street as I did. Back in the day he was very into music and we walked to the same bus stop together. We weren't exactly friends or anything. I thought he was a very good guy, although a bit odd and eccentric. At the time he wasn't a Zeppelin fan as he was into the punk scene. He's carved quite a successful career in music for himself as a producer, re-mixer, dj and artist. Whom I'm talking about is Moby, and I'm not doing this to promote anything for him. I have nothing to gain by doing this. I thought this would be a good idea for a forum topic. He's probably most famous for his album Play which contained the hit South Side. That's probably what you'll be most familiar with. He's sold over 20 million albums world wide and many of his songs have also been featured in movies and commercials. He's worked with the likes of Metallica, Michael Jackson, B-52s, David Bowie and the Beastie Boys to name a few. Here's an article from The Independent out of the UK with a brief interview with Moby and a bit about Led Zeppelin One Minute With Moby Interview by Charlotte Cripps Friday, 24 October 2008 Where are you? I'm in Manhattan, just waking up and getting ready to go out and buy groceries. What are you currently listening to?John Lee Hooker. Who is your favourite band?Of all time? Probably Led Zeppelin. I DJed recently and played "Going to California" to a packed dance-floor. It didn't go down so well. But I loved it. If you could have written one song, which one would it be?"I Feel Love" by Donna Summer. It's so simple and remarkable, somehow managing to be platonic and dirty at the same time. What distracts you from work? Ye olde internet, especially buying old drum machines on eBay. What did you want to be as a child? Up until age 13, I wanted to be a scientist. Any type of scientist. After 13, I wanted to be a guitar player. Who is your greatest inspiration? Marcel Duchamp. I loved the way he effortlessly and playfully moved from high to low art, while also occasionally cross-dressing and competing in chess tournaments. The song that changed my life is... "My Way" by Sid Vicious. When I was 13 I saw the video of Sid singing "My Way". It terrified me and made me run out and start a punk rock band. Who is your hero? Leonard Cohen. I've always loved him as a musician, but he became my hero when he gave up his career for a decade to be a Zen monk. Moby's album 'Last Night Remixed' is out on 3 November on Mute
  13. That company has been around for years. Forgot about that one. They always cleaned up! Should we not count movies where Zeppelin songs are featured such as Almost Famous and Fast Times At Ridgemont High? Don't think we should include these.
  14. I like this thread. This could go on for a while. The idea of looking and thinking about Led Zeppelin references and coincidences are a good thing. I'm sure we can come up with a lot more.
  15. Several years ago there was a cable TV series either on HBO or Showtime called "Going To California". It was about a few guys in their twenties on a road trip and living it up on the way. Having fun, getting into trouble etc. I think it only ran for one year.
  16. Wow, that's quite interesting Steve. Nice find. So what happened after that? Just kidding. Well, the rest is history.
  17. Not sure about this either. A big welcome to the forum. Great first post and thread
  18. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You at around 7:30 pm on New Yorks Q104.3. Cranked up of course in my car.
  19. Peter's residence looks like some kind of place. Pretty amazing. Great research as always Steve.
  20. Steve, Thanks for the detailed info on the auction items. Some great stuff here. A lot of it very unique. When you have an influx of cash, such as Peter Grant did, it makes things like this quite feasible for the individual and build a collection of valuable antiques such as these. Good work.
  21. This is from the Eastbourne Herald from a couple a days ago regarding the auction of some of Peter Grant's antiques that will be auctioned. Led Zeppelin Manager's Antiques Under The Hammer Date: 09 October 2008 A COLLECTION of antiques amassed by Peter Grant, the manager of the legendary rock band Led Zeppelin at his home near Eastbourne, will be auctioned on Wednesday October 22. Dreweatts Auctioneers will be selling an impressive collection of Art Nouveau and Art Deco items, bought by Grant in the 70s and 80s. Peter, who died in 1995, was a well-known figure in Eastbourne and was often spotted driving around town in his distinctive car with the number plate LZ1. Seventeen items belonging to him will feature in the firm's sale of 20th Century Pictures & Design, which will be held at Dreweatts Donnington Priory salerooms. Peter, who died in 1995, shared his passion for 20th Century design with Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, and the two of them would spend hours in antique markets and shops between gigs when the band was touring the world. The two men had been friends ever since Peter took on management of Jimmy's upcoming band The Yardbirds, subsequently to evolve into the godfather of all supergroups, Led Zeppelin. Among the furniture items included in the auction is a Louis Majorelle Art Nouveau walnut desk and matching chair, one of five pieces of Majorelle and Galle furniture in the Peter Grant collection, offered for sale with an estimate of £5,000-7,000. An iconic symbol of the Decorative Arts movement is the Tiffany lamp, and Peter Grant's collection boasts a particularly fine example in the shape of a Tiffany Studios Favrile glass and bronze Geometric' floor lamp, dating from around 1910 and measuring 63.5cm in height. Carrying a pre-sale estimate of £8,000-12,000, this object in particular is expected to arouse significant interest among collectors. At the more portable end of the spectrum is an 1897 colour lithographic poster, Monaco Monte-Carlo by Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939), one of five Mucha lithographs in the collection, which is expected to fetch £1,000-1,500 on the day. "This collection is unusual in that it combines items of exceptional quality with a 'celebrity provenance' likely to provoke interest from ephemera collectors," said Dreweatts specialist Dan Bray. "Normally, items consigned for sale which have a famous owner are perhaps overly reliant on that fact, but in this case, the quality of the collection speaks for itself before one takes the Led Zeppelin connection into account."
  22. Docron, Thanks for decyfering this. I couldn't quite make out all of Jimmy's handwriting. Great stuff.
  23. Wow! What a piece of memorablilia. Where did you get that? It shows the planning that Jimmy put into all his performances. Great one Steve.
  24. The man was simply the best. A genuinely, real class act.
  25. I saw them about ten years ago at a club in Norwalk. Don't remember the name of the venue. I thought they were excellent. Great musicianship and a setlist to match. They all had the moves down. Not sure what has become of them. I've heard Led Zepagain is quite good as well as a friend of mine saw them last year in the San Diego area. They seem to just perform on the west coast.
