  1. Hi thanks for your replies on Destroyer album, I believe Demo copies were sent to radio stations and not sold to the public? but they make their way to the public one way or another. This could explain why mine has Seattle August 77 on the box and yours has cleveland 77, it has Jimmy Page with his double neck guitar on the cover of the box in blue and the wrighting is in red and it also has LZ 27-4-77. They always put demo copy not for sale when sending to radio stations. Thanks again for the info.

    Destroyer is 4-27-77.

    Destroyer II is 4-28-77.

I would have paid 100 bucks for Destroyer on vinyl, but I'm not a fan of the show.

Considering their last show in 1977 was July 24th, I'm assuming "Seattle August 1977" is a shipping or mailing date, not a reference to an actual Led Zeppelin concert?

  2. Backstage after hours nonsense? Another blowhard who doesn't get it. That "nonsense" as you put it is a HUGE part of the Zep story. No other band made their audience wait for hours so they could do mountains of blow and feast on women backstage before they were "ready" to bring the hammer of the gods. Zeppelin hosted the greatest parties ever known to man. Like Satyricon. Or Caligula. Jimmy loved that stuff, and loves their reputation for it. "We were flying the flag of hedonism!" No movie about Zep would be valid without it. It's hardly nonsense, expert.

Hate to burst your inflating head but I do get it. The mystique of the band, along with the music is why they are so popular. But that doesn't mean any of them want to see people portray them in situations they would rather see fade into lore. Denial with half a smile is the way they've always played it and the way they will most likely continue doing so until they pass on. Hence why we may be stuck with Almost Famous as a pseudo-bio for now.

  3. Ok, and that has WHAT to do with the topic of this thread?

Jason's been nursing at the Zeppelin teat long enough. Time to move on and stop riding his Dad's coattails. Hmmm...riding on coattails...where have I read that before?

    Love,

    Billy

Absolutely nothing. Now change your tampon!

  4. 1. How is this a disservice to the legacy of the band if he's bringing that legacy to fans who want to continue sharing it amongst themselves. Calling it "Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience" is perfectly fine. After all, he is Bonzo Jr. and, by nearly all accounts, the rightful heir to the percussion throne for the group.

    2. Who gives a flying fuck what Ross or anyone thinks for that matter. If he has the blessing of the boys, which I'm sure he does, than that's all that matters. Bonzo would want Jason to do what makes him happy, and I'll bet if Bonzo were still alive, he'd play alongside his son...and sock Ross in the face for saying such nonsense.

  5. I bet if someone they respect - like a Cameron Crowe - came to the boys with a great script and some talented actors to play them, they'd warm to the idea. They've changed their minds before.

I think the boys largely gave in to Crowe's demand for music, not only because it was Crowe, but because Almost Famous is sort of semi-biographical in a way that pleases them without having to go into all the backstage, after hours nonsense that would overshadow any Zeppelin bio-pic. I see a bio-pic about them being made without Crowe over one with Crowe's involvement.

  6. School of Rock?

    Almost Famous?

    Ricky Gervais' upcoming new one?

You make it sound like they've never agreed to allow their music to be used in movies. Quite a bit of evidence to the contrary, counselor.

    Love,

    Billy

I think what she was stating was the boys would only feel a movie about themselves would be valid if they are primarily in the movie, ala "TSRTS." Hence why my, like several other opinions, have slated a bio-pic may only work once they've passed on.

  7. Pretty much zero chance, as they will never agree to their music being used, and what is a movie about them without them on the soundtrack?

Richard said "not much chance i think" in regards to my question. Unfortunately, he didn't elaborate whether music or creative differences would be the issue. I'd always found the biggest difficulty would be trying to do them justice with exploring the importance of the music without going too overboard with all the drugs and off stage shenanigans. Not to mention, there is so much to be told about their 12 years together, how could someone do them justice with a 2 hour movie?

  8. Phil Collins was brought in quite unneccesarily as a second drummer, undoubtedly as either a personal favor to

him or at the behest of the event's organizers. Collins of course performed in Wembley and Philadelphia that day. Unfortuntely, Led Zeppelin's set was well under-rehearsed, with Collins looking to Thompson for cues.

I'd always assumed Phil was brought in because he was one of the top acts in 1985 and because he had worked with Robert on his first few solo albums. Interestingly enough, I remember reading interviews that show a mutual respect and even friendship between Phil and some of the Zeppelin boys before 1985 but not much after.

  9. This album has definitely grown on me. Emerald Eyes and Prison Blues are excellent Page compositions. I dig The Only One, but I feel Page's solo hurts the song...ie..it could have been better.

I do agree with the post on page 1, the "demo" quality or feel of the album does hurt it a bit, but it's still a great listen.

  10. the times when Jimmy would have saliva trailing from his gaping mouth practically to the stage floor in one slobbery string.

It really was disgusting and I don't know what state Jimmy was in, but I certainly don't think it was a totally coherent state.

It has been said Hendrix did the same thing on numerous occasions. Once in the studio, I forget who off the top of my head , said he heard the most devastating guitar solo in his life and when he looked over at Jimi, his eyes were rolled into his head and he was drooling all over himself.

  11. I saw The Book of Eli last night.

Denzel and Gary were awesome. Too bad the movie they were in sucked. The music was melodic and sometimes was eerily frightening and it was great to see Ray Stevenson (Rome) in something other than a bad Punisher flick. There just wasn't enough of a backbone for the movie to really work other than a vehicle to promote Denzel as a badass, bible toting drifter and Gary Oldman as a madman possessed with capturing Denzel's holy book. Mila Kunis, while looking better than ever, doesn't really do much either. To her credit, she tries everytime she's presented with a scene that calls for a dramatic tone, but again, the script is too hollow for any of them to really engage us in anything beyond a breezy, half baked, shoot-em-up, post-apocalyptic fantasy.

    2 outta 4 stars.

  12. "I have a diverse family, I come from a diverse state. I married an Alaskan." - Sarah Palin answering a question about Harry Reid's recent "racist" comments from Bill O'Reilly. Yes, you married a white hick in a predominately white state who also is a proud member of a group who want secession from the Union! Wow, what a bumbling atrocity. Think she'll fit in at Fox News? You.......fuck it, You betcha!

  13. I finally saw Watchmen today..

I generally liked the film, having never read the graphic novel growing up. Snyder did a good job keeping the pacing of the film at an enjoyable level and I really never found myself getting bored. The characters were fresh and in your face. Rorschach was fuckin' bad ass.

All in all a good flick. 3 outta 4 from this guy. B)

  14. Never and could understand how anyone could live in that mess. I spent several years in Virginia and Rhode Island when I was a young kid and enjoyed playing in it but I would never want to deal with it on a day to day basis going to work and all.blink.gif

Carving through it on the slopes makes it worth while. B)
