  1. Hi!

This is not a where, when or who question, but a what...

What instrument is Jimmy playing? Is this a Mandoloncello? Anybody knows?

    jimmy-black-poppy-mandolon.jpg

Oh, btw, I can't find the mystery-thread (am I too stupid?) Can somebody give me the link?

  2. Alex, lovely as always! I really like his eyes and hair in this one! Great again!

DMachine, absolutely amazing work! I wish I had the patience to draw something like that someday!

JohnPaulJesus, those drawings of yours are great! Especially the White Dragon Suit Jimmy got a lot of dynamics.

    Keep them drawings coming, please!

  3. Thanksss!

Ohkay, here's the promised Valentine's Day Drawing, I did for a contest on dA.

That idea came really quickly... I only had to think about it for seconds, then the dialogue and all the other stuff popped up in my mind. I drew that on the last day of my skiing holidays. Bonzo's shirt is supposed to be the one with the peacock feathers, but I had no reference photo to work of and I wanted to finish this drawing.

Ohkay, Jimmy is holding a book - I don't know what book it is. I just didn't want to leave his hand empty, so I put a black book inside. Uhm...Bonzo seems to want to know what book it is, because he reaches for it.

Now to "Lupercalia"... It was a Roman Feast on Feb 15th... Supposedly, Valentin from Termi died on that day (somewhen in the 3rd century) and who knows why Christianity took that day (got something to do a with a poem by Chaucer)... If you're interested, look it up ^^

(But I had to let Jimmy say something like that ^^)

And I guess you all know about the Valentine's Day Massacre in 1929 (Bugs Moran and Al Capone). It too is portrayed in Billy Wilder's "Some like it Hot" (Gangster's names are "Spats Colombo" and "Toothpick Charlie", oh my, I love this film!)

In fact I don't really care about Valentine's Day. I just wanted to enter the contest and got that idea... I hope you like it!

  4. Heyo!

Well, well, well, I did this long before Christmas. It was a drawing for a T-Shirt I gave to Martina as a birthday present on Jan 14th.

Well, Jimmy playing "In my Time of Dying" '75 in Earl's Court. I just love it how he moves while playing that song...

Sorry for the weird angle of his left arm, but I couldn't manage to draw it differently...

    Jimmy__In_my_Time_of_Dying_by_manga_meloney.jpg

This is the t-shirt I gave Martina on her birthday.

Left is front-side of the t-shirt, right the back side - I had the text of "In my Time of Dying" printed on the back side.

The drawing above is now in a "frame" and given to Martina as well.

She loves the t-shirt! (At least, this is what she tries to convince me of ^^)

A sort of "Valentine's Day" drawing will follow this week... (just to tell you, I'm not a fan of the valentine's day, but I'm in a contest on dA and had this wonderful idea to draw...)

  5. Hey, people! Good work!

    Here's mine:

Ok, Jimmy's birthday! I did this on his birthday on Saturday around noon and wanted to post it directly afterwards, but then the internet was dying on me. It’s now Monday I know, but it is the first time the internet works for more than just two minutes and I hope long enough for me to post it finally… Stupid Internet…

Ohkay, exactly 40 years ago (on Saturday...) was the gig in the Royal Albert Hall - Jimmy's 26th birthday. So this was drawn in remembrance of it - and also in remembrance of his Black Beauty, which he lost shortly afterwards. (by the way, I noticed on Sunday, that the body of the Black Beauty is too small...)

Uhm, the pose with the Whiskey glass didn't happen on stage... But I wanted to draw him with the guitar and he played it on the three encores. Just imagine the four boys going out and celebrating his birthday after the concert ^^

So, well, Happy 66th Birthday, Mr. Page! I hope he'll stay well (and tours ^^ and comes to Austria) and gorgeous and all!

I had a drink on him Saturday night at the Laurel Leaf that night (or two...or three...)

    Happy_66th_Birthday__Jimmy_by_manga_meloney.jpg

    Have fun with it!

  6. Thanks a lot!!

I'm sorry that you always have to read, that I think my drawings are bad. I'll try to stop saying I screwed this thing up and screwed that thing up...

Ohhkay, tomorrow I need to have a Jimmy drawing finished (I still lack ideas :P)

  7. So, my birthday drawing for Jonesy...

Oh well... I screwed it up totally... It doesn't look like him at all and he doesn't get through... I could cry! I'm ashamed of myself for even posting it here for his birthday, but I didn't have the nerve to try again... I'm so sorry for providing you with work I don't even like myself...

But, anyway... Happy 64th, Mr. Jones!

Oh, I intended his hairstyle to be January 1970, so actually my drawing is for his 24th birthday... What present it might be, he has in his hand...?

    Happy_64th_Birthday__Jonesy_by_manga_meloney.jpg

  8. Good job, Magenta and Zep Head!

    Keep it up...

I have to do a Jonesy birthday drawing today (and I don't even have a good idea...)

Oh, don't miss it! This is Cynthia's new Jimmy painting on DA: Jimmy

I don't know, if she plans to post it here, but anyway, it's the link for it!

  9. Hi!

First things first: Diana-loura, that drawing is great!

Well, I haven't been here for weeks... But I come back with a Zeppelin drawing (ALL of them, this time!)

This is my Led Zeppelin Christmas share. I especially did this for the christmas contest of a Led Zeppelin fan club on deviant Art, but I'm not sure, if there are enough participants ^^ I did it anyway.

Well, what does it have to do with Christmas? In Austria it is tradition to have several so-called "Christkindlmärkte" (they also exist in Germany, but there they are called "Weihnachtsmärkte", so "Christmas Markets"). Alone in Vienna there are nearly twenty of them. This tradition is very old - the first real Christkindlmarkt (like it is today) dates back into the 18th century.

Since 1975, the biggest Christkindlmarkt (and the best-known, but also most commercialised) is in front of the Viennese Rathaus (town hall) - and herein fits my drawing. Imagine Led Zep in 1975 at the Rathaus Christkindlmarkt. Today it is tradition to drink "Punsch" (I don't know the English word - is it "punch"?) there - I don't know if it was sold in 1975 already... But on my drawing it is. The four Zep boys drinking Punsch at the Christkindlmarkt (judging from their looks, they already had several of them ^^)

So, now, I messed up Bonzo again... Jonesy is tolerable (again) and Jimmy and Robert look really good (especially their drunk grins). I don't know, I thought that earmuffs fit to Jimmy (don't ask me why ), Santa-hats fit to Robert and Jonesy and I thought a Russian cap would fit to Bonzo. But then I had no reference-pic of a Russian cap and I had to improvise - and now look what happened to it! Ah, what a shame... Poor Bonzo, I always mess him up...

Anyway, Merry Christmas to all of you!

    Raphaela

  10. Thanks to you all! I could always hug the computer, when I read your comments! (I don't have much trust in my "talents"... so I'm really happy, when others like my drawings!)

I don't know why, but somehow drawing Jimmy calms me - drawing Robert cheers me up (I really don't know why...). Drawing Bonzo and Jonesy on the other hand, "depresses" me, because they are so hard to draw. I so much want to draw them all again, but now I lack ideas. Don't know. Maybe next week...

Oh, I'm babbling too much again, sorry...

    Have a nice Saturday night!

  11. Hey, letthesun! Welcome ^^ Nice one! You totally got his facial expression! But maybe you could work on the hair? Ah, I wish I could draw realistic... Since this is not the case, I got two more Manga-drawings from this week.

Alright, dear Jimmurs. You notice, where the clothes're from? Yeah, "It might get loud". I wanted to draw those clothes, but I totally suck at Silver-Fox-Jimmy, so I just put a late '69/early '70-Jimmy into the clothes. You noticed, that I mostly draw the 69/70-Jimmy? I love his hair in that time (not that I don't love it from all the other years...). Well, just when I finished the drawing, I noticed, that the guitar-case is too small... Sorry... Oh, title refers, of course, to the line in "Kashmir".

    rl-jimmy-traveller-of-both-time-and.jpg

And another Jimmy. I don't really think that this drawing is very special, but I think I like it. Jimmy's yummy back-side... I wish I could get his butt better, but this is all I could manage... That man...

    rl-jimmy-bakc-view.jpg

So, and hopefully I'll finally be able to draw the whole band again (but Bonzo and Jonesy are so hard to draw!)

Have a nice Friday afternoon and evening!

  12. Woah, I haven't been online here for long (since I didn't draw... *sigh*...)

Aen, those two new are gorgeous again! Lucia can be happy ^^

Katuschka, yeah, my friend is into Manga as well. We both egg each other on to draw more (but I can't at the moment... Only University doodles, and those don't really count). We also read the same Mangas...

I need to draw. Really need to. Oh my...

  13. Thanks to you all ^^

I did a Jimmy yesterday (instead of studying) and at first I really liked the drawing. When looking at it today again, it looks horrible. I have to re-draw it, I can't live with it looking so ugly...

Oh, you should keep that realistic drawing in mind, I'm sure I shan't ever do it again - or at least not for a long, long time... ^^

CommunicationBreakdown, I would give a lot of things to own a shirt like Robert's in RAH, your father should REALLY treasure it!

Ah, there are a lot of Zep's clothings I would want to have (it would even be enough, if it only looks really close...). Always, when my best friend and I look through Zeppelin photos (which happens often), we always shout out, which clothes we would want to have. (I'm glad nobody else can hear us when we do...)

  14. Thank you, Magenta!

Naw, I'm not studying art, but ... well, you can't really say it in English, something like "Theatre-, Film- and Media-science". The problem is, I'm not so varied in my drawings. I'm okay with my Manga-Style, but I really can't draw backgrounds for example. Or landscapes, still lifes and stuff. And also, I can only draw, when I'm in the mood for it. Now, I haven't been in the mood for about more than a month - there was nothing new comming to my mind, no good ideas...

Plus, I'm halfway happy with the theatre and film thing I study (uh, just remembered I had a test tomorrow - and not studied yet...)

Communication Breakdown, the "Song Remains the Same"-drawing is especially lovely!

So, I promised one realistic drawing, and here it is. I don't know, when I did this, but it was about a year ago... I used a photo as reference and I was really happy with the drawing at first. But when I look at it now... (this is why I didn't post it sooner...) But I like it. Honestly. I think I got his face in a way... And I managed to make the guitar look really good, I think. Btw, I REALLY would want to have shoes like that (my father had a pair almost exactly looking like that, but of course he trashed them somewhen in the 80s...) Ok, no more babbling...:

    rl-jimmy-burlington-vest-sitting.jpg

Wah, I need to draw... Really need to... But studying comes first today (haha...)

    'till then!

  15. And the last doodle from last semester...

I don't really like this one, it didn't come out so well. But when you can't erase, then you can't correct anything... Anyway, '69-Jimmy (tired looking?)

    jimmy-69-leather.jpg

And now, that was it! Oh, I just remembered, that I have a realistic drawing I wanted to post. So, next time then...

  16. Martina, my friend who drew this, sends her thanks!

Oh, I so much love her Manga-Style...

So, now I'll post the last of my doodles (but anyway, new semester started and there will be more doodles coming...)

Well, when I was looking for the "lost Jimmy", I found that I didn't scan all of my last doodles. Now I did, and I'll post them now (there are six of them).

Oh, uhm, well, yes. Robert in a dress... Compare it to the photo with Roy Harper. Damn, that man got legs, really... I think I captured him okay.

    robert-in-red-dress.jpg

This is a '79-Jonesy, when he had his hair like that. This hair-style (and the one in '72) fit him so well! (plus: my doodle doesn't really look like him...Sorry)

    jonesy-79-i-think.jpg

Uh, another Jimmy. I so much love that shirt! (Together with all the others ^^)

    jimmy-travel-through-time-and-space.jpg

Ah, a day, before I doodle this, I was watching the "Story of the Yardbirds" including their gig in Frankfurt in 1967. The announcer introduced each of the members and when introducing Jimmy, it looks like if Jimmy chews around on a chewing gum with a bored look, but then it sounds as if somebody from the audience calls his name and he nods and smiles...

    jimmy-chewing.jpg

This is the Jimmy I was looking for. I really like how his hair came out on this one - and the expression. It is one of my favourites...

    jimmy-beautiful-hair-again.jpg

Alright, there is only one more... And I need to draw new stuff (with ink and colours...) and first, fnish those two Jimmys I have lying around. And how about a band-drawing? Ah, I need new ideas...

  17. D'uhhh, I need to post this, though it wasn't drawn by me but by my best friend. I asked her permission to do this, because every time she wants to post here on the forum, her computer won't let her, so...I'll do it for her.

Well, she scetched the idea in summer already but did the drawing yesterday. Well, when she first showed me, my cigarette fell out of my mouth (seriously, like a bad joke in film...). Ah, I love it! I love how she drew them... Especially the '77-Jimmy with the shades... Hmmmm...

Ok, no more talking, here it is:

    jimmurs-and-the-kids-manon-chan.jpg

    Enjoy! Hope you like it!
