  1. Division Bell is very good ! I've been listening to it a lot in the past few months. It might require a few listens before you get the hang of it. For individual songs from the album I especially suggest: Lost For Words (my favourite atm), Marooned (awesome instrumental), Coming Back to Life and High Hopes ofc.

I thought Marooned was really great! It uses some of the same piano chords from Us and Them. It also shows what a great guitarist David Gilmour is.

  2. Page played on an early Bowie song called "I Pity The Fool" that's actually pretty good for a mid 60's R&B cover. Bowie claims Page showed him the chord progression that became the basis for "Space Oddity". I have him saying so in a Guitar World interview from about 10 years ago.

    Interesting bit of info! Thanks!

I love David Bowie! I love Ziggy Stardust, but I think I love "Low" and "Heroes" more because they were so innovative. I think his voice is better on the later albums also. In the Ziggy Stardust period his voice sounded a little too high pitched and squeaky at times, but in the later albums his voice has a richer quality.

  3. Hello, everyone! I recently got three Pink Floyd albums for Christmas: A Saucerful of Secrets, The Final Cut and The Division Bell. I really enjoyed A Saucerful of Secrets! The other two were just okay, nothing really outstanding. My favorite song from A Saucerful of Secrets is the title song. It really blew my mind, I was totally hypnotized after listening to it! :D I'd previously heard the live version from Pompeii, but the album version is a bit different. I think I like the album version better. I also enjoyed Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun and Let There Be More Light. I've only listened to each album once; maybe when I listen to them again I might like The Final Cut and The Division Bell more.

  4. Hi everyone! Thanks for all your recommendations and suggestions. I haven't bought anything yet. Actually, I think I'm more confused now than I was to start with!:lol: It seems everyone has a lot of different opinions about the albums I listed. So, I think I'll just start from the beginning and buy them in chronological order (starting with Saucerful and More). Hopefully after Christmas I'll have some extra cash, and I'll let you all know what I think after I've listened to them.

  5. Hello, "a clockwork tangerine"! Out of the albums you listed, I'd recommend either Obscured by Clouds or A Saucerful of Secrets. Both are some of the better pre-DSoTM efforts. AHM is rather odd, to say the least. You won't regonize most of the cuts off The Final Cut(which is more of Rog's solo album, so I'd only recommend it if you really dig him.), A Momentary Lapse of Reason, or The Division Bell. More is just weak, I think. Hope this helps! :D

Thanks for the recommendations, pagemccartney95! I think I'll buy A Saucerful of Secrets first. I know I already like two songs on it because they played them in Live at Pompeii (which was absolutely awesome :D ). I wasn't sure about Atom Heart Mother because I listened to the samples on iTunes and it sounded really weird! If it's anything like Ummagumma, I think I'll hold off on buying it. (I was a little disappointed after listening to Ummagumma.)

  6. Hello, fellow Pink Floyd fans! I love Pink Floyd, but I'm embarrassed to say that I haven't listened to all of their albums yet! :bagoverhead: Here's the ones I haven't heard yet: A Saucerful of Secrets, More, Atom Heart Mother, Obscured by Clouds, The Final Cut, A Momentary Lapse of Reason, and The Division Bell. Out of these, which do you guys recommend that I buy first? I've heard that The Final Cut wasn't that good.

As far as my favorite albums go, I really like Meddle, DSOTM, Wish You Were Here, and The Wall. I think my favorite song would have to be Echoes. I love the psychedelic part in the middle! :D

  7. And as John Paul Jones said in one interview when he was asked about WIC, ""Where's Jimmy?" Jimmy sounds good but it doesn't really sound like the album he would have made in my opinion.

Yeah, that's how I felt when I first listened to it. I was a little disappointed that there weren't more guitar solos. The only song that really stands out for me is Most High. I like to think of it as sort of a Kashmir part 2 because it has a really great mid-eastern/Indian riff and it's really hypnotizing. All in all, I think the first half of the album is good, but the second half is just okay.

  8. Our local PBS station is showing American Masters Les Paul :Chasing Sound right now.

I LOVE Les Paul, may he rest in peace.

They just showed an interview with Jeff Beck. Maybe there will be one with Jimmy.

I don't know if this is being shown nationally tonight, but I would highly recommend watching it.

I saw that quite a while ago. I liked it and I thought it was interesting. Unfortunately no Jimmy interview. :( However, the American Masters show about Atlantic Records has interviews with both Jimmy and Robert. :)

  9. Lately, I've been watching So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing with the Stars. (Or should I say, Dancing with the Has-Beens & Unknowns  ) I've also been enjoying stuff on PBS, like Masterpiece Mystery: Inspector Lewis and The Vicar of Dibley. (I don't have cable, so the choices are rather slim. I usually just watch movies. :) )

  10. Just popped in to say that I've finally finished Lord of the Rings! I really enjoyed it. I think what I liked about it most was the poetry. I don't really like poetry in general, but I liked his verses because I actually understood them! :)

Okay now that Halloween is around the corner, it's time for horror stories by Algernon Blackwood, H.P. Lovecraft, and Bram Stoker's Dracula's Guest (I read Dracula last year).

  11. It's funny, but when I was little I always wanted to travel to the future. Well, now that the future is here, all I want to do is go back to the past! Obviously I'd want to experience a Led Zep concert, but I think I'd be happy just to visit any day from the `60s or `70s.

  12. I use Pantene also. I've tried lots of different brands and I like it the best. In the winter I have to use a little extra conditioner because my hair gets so full of static. I don't really do anything with my hair - I just leave it straight. It's so heavy and thick that whenever I try to curl it, the curls don't hold and my hair is flat in about an hour or less. I don't die my hair either - I like it the way it is (dark brown). :) (I once tried a blond wig on, and I looked really scary! )

  13. ^I LOVE A Brave New World!

I wasn't sure if I would, but I read it because it was on the list for a book report I had to do for a MATH class, and I loved it.

I love it too! I've read it twice now. I had to read it my senior year for English class, and it's one of the few books that I had to read for school that I actually liked! :) I also like 1984, which is similar to Brave New World. (I've read it twice also.) I can't decide which book I like better.

I'm still reading Lord of the Rings, but I'm almost finished! :D (I'm halfway through The Return of the King.)

  14. I quoted myself because this thread is moving too fast!

Yes, Ninelives is correct about birth control. I've been on the pill since I was about 14, not because I was sexually active then, but because I had other issues, and the hormones in the pill helped regulate them.

I think that the best bet for birth control is Depo-provera, though I personally never want to be on that again. I was on it for a few years, and I really do prefer the pill.

I tried Yaz recently because I had iron-deficiency anemia and to see if it would help with the acne, but unfortunately, the side effects were too annoying for me to keep taking it (nausea, depression, general stomach discomfort).

You're right, this thread is moving too fast! I can't believe it's midnight already!! I think I'll have to sign off now and go to bed.:zzz:

  15. I thought we were talking about acne control, not birth control or is this both?

We were talking about acne control. If you take Accutane and you become pregnant while taking it, it can cause serious birth defects. That's why you should avoid sex or use lots of birth control if you decide to have sex while taking it.

But for birth control, ninelives is correct.

  16. I wouldn't think about Accutane unless your skin is really bad.

Honestly, my skin was disgustingly bad--once I started Accutane, people who had known me for years noticed a HUGE difference right away.

My doctor took blood samples every month to monitor my kidney function and other organs' health. I also believe I had to sign a waiver/contract saying that if I were to become pregnant while on it, I agreed to have an abortion.

I was 20 at the time, so that was a pretty freaky thing to have to think about. I avoided sex the entire time I was on it so I wouldn't ever have to think about whether I could follow through with said action if I were to become pregnant.

It is pretty bad. I've battled it since I was 12 and I'm 23 now! I always thought it would just go away when I got older but that didn't happen. It takes a huge toll on my self-esteem.

I know Accutane can cause birth defects, but I didn't know you had to sign something about having an abortion if you became pregnant while using it. :o That's scary.

  17. I also have breakouts still, but that's just part of my skin. I used to have acne so bad that I actually had a teacher ask me if I "had the chicken pox or something," and a dermatologist prescribed Accutane to me once I was old enough to make my own medical decisions. My skin was so bad that I had welts that turned purple and brown on my face when I was younger, so a few pimples are a bit annoying to me, but I have to remember how bad my skin once was. ;)

Your acne sounds like it was really severe. I'm glad it's better now. :) I feel your pain!!

  18. dove is great, i use that sometimes. oh you poor thing, acne! both my kids had it quite bad and went to a dermatologist. they were both put on the same drug ( cant remember the name ) it's quite strong, but they had no side effects, and it cleared it up well.

My dermatologist put me on antibiotics. I've tried them twice in the last two years, and after I completed them, my acne came back six months later. It's very annoying!! I guess I'll have to go back sometime soon and ask about the Accutane.

  19. you're so welcome. :)

now, to start another topic .......

what do all you lovely ladies think about skin care? i have always just used mild soap and water, with an exfoliating glove to cleanse, and oil of olay for moisturising. now, i know you are supposed to NEVER use soap, but i must admit, i don't have a lot of wrinkles for my age ( tho not ever being a smoker has a LOT to do with it ), so it can't be too bad, and it's easy on the pocket too!

    what are your favourite products?

I wash my face with plain Dove bar soap once a day (that's what my dermatologist recommended). So far it hasn't dried out my face (I've used it for a couple years), but unfortunately I'm still battling my acne. (Darn stubborn acne!!)

  20. yes, the pills are small, it's really not a problem for me. i would agree with tangerine about seeing an endocinologist too. GPs don't really know that much about all this, but wait till you get the blood results. good luck!

    Thanks! :)

  21. Good advice from slave to zep on Hypothyroidism. Very common, especially in women. If you haven't had a visit to an Endocrinologist (as opposed to a General Practicioner) i would suggest you find a good one.

As for the family history of cancer, have you had Genetic testing done? Very important in your situation.

Thanks for the PM, ~tangerine~. I sent you a reply. As far as the endocrinologist, I'll wait and see what the results of my blood test are and see what my doc says. :)

  22. you're welcome.

i am one of the ones who have to take it till the day i die. i had thyroid cancer and had the entire gland removed, and the area treated with radioactive iodine. that's why i know about getting the levels right. the thyroxine takes a few weeks to build up to the right level in the body. if you have to go off it for any reason ( like i used to have to for treatments and scans ) it also takes a few weeks to leave the body. you may well have to take it forever, but hey, it's only one little pill a day, it's not so bad.

    good luck!

Thanks, slave to zep! I'm sorry to hear that you had thyroid cancer. :( I hope all is well with you now. :console: And you're right, one pill a day is a little price to pay for feeling better. :)
