Because Rush O'Hannity and Glenn Beck and Michael Savage and Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich and some of the more unhinged Congresscritters on the right are not telling people to get angry about that. No, they want you to get your knickers knotted over universal health care. I'm sure this has made the rounds in more than one forum recently, but it was posted on another board I frequent and I think it hits the spot. Some people just do not get it. Not because they don't want to, but because they can't. Health care would be just one of the MANY MANY MANY things the government would be in charge of, but I don't hear anyone bitching about those other things.

By local medical center do you mean like a walk-in clinic? We have several of those around here, but they're tied to the Forsyth Medical Center, which is one of the main hospitals in this area. I honestly couldn't tell you though, I am not that familiar with how hospitals/clinics operate on non-urgent cases.

People are opposed to government-run health care because they have no clue what it is, what it will do or what it won't do. If you have health insurance, great. You get to keep it. You get to keep your doctor, your provider, everything. What this is doing is giving those WITHOUT health care........health care. Which is really fucking horrible, apparently. Also, they'll believe any lie they hear about the NHS in England or what Canada has.

I believe it goes for both public and private, but hospitals by law can't turn anyone away. If you are taken to the ER of the hospital closest to where you live, regardless of where it gets its funding and no matter if you have health insurance or not, they can't send you back out into the streets. They have to treat you. Now, public hospitals would pay for your care out of tax dollars given to them by the county/state budget. If taxes have to be raised in order to meet that budget, then that's what happens. Private hospitals will bill you, I believe. I could be wrong on that, so someone here who knows more about how private hospitals work can correct me if I made a misstatement. Personally, I'm out of work right now and cannot find a job. I have been on about a hundred different interviews in the last year, sent my resume to countless companies and have gotten nothing back. Target and Wal-Mart wouldn't even call me back. Too many heads of households need work more than I do, so those jobs are going to them, not people like me. I don't have health care because I can't afford my own policy and I'm too old to be placed on either of my parents'. What will happen to them if something happens to me? We can't afford for me to get sick, break a bone, get cancer, anything. We'd literally be put onto the street because there is no money. I need health care.

Nathan, just walk the hell away from these people. Don't look at them, don't roll your eyes at them, don't even say anything. Just turn and walk away. That's what I do. If some Mormon missionary or Jehovah's Witness person comes to the door, I either don't bother answering it or if I do, I say "I'm not interested" and shut the door. End of. They don't come back, I don't have to worry about them anymore. You're letting yourself get worked up over something that isn't worth your time.

The teenagers in our neighborhood. The previous owners of this house had no problem with the neighborhood kids using the back yard and driveway as a causeway to get between subdivisions and go from house to house. Well......my parents DO have a problem with it, because they're trespassing. One time I caught them sitting around in our backyard just shooting the shit, like they owned the place! I walked out there and told them to hit the bricks and the one girl said that the old owners didn't care. I reminded them that the new owners DO care and that they need to scram. I can't wait until we fence in our yard once we get our dog.

Clinique makes a great line of skin care products. Face washes, toners, astringents, make-up removers, moisturizers.....the whole nine yards. My sister has VERY sensitive skin and uses them religiously and one time while were road-tripping, I had no choice but to use her products as I'd left mine at home. I have used Clinique's products ever since.

While I've never had to deal with it on a personal level, ie. someone being prejudiced or racist towards me, I have had to deal with people being prejudiced and racist toward other people. I live in a small town in North Carolina. That alone should send up warning flags, but trust me.....during the general election, I heard the "n-word" used more than I had ever heard it used in the 26 years I'd been alive. I had a very small Obama/Biden pin on my purse and it was hardly the only pin I had on my purse.....I have more flair on it than Jennifer Aniston's suspenders in Office Space. That being said, if someone saw it.....they had to make comment. And make it loud enough that it could be heard, which was clearly the point. No matter how many inroads we make as a society; black man in the White House, Latina on the Supreme Court, woman as Secretary of State.....there will always be people like ^THAT to remind you.....we haven't made nearly enough.

I have to deal with people like that down here all the time. The main road that is right outside our subdivision is a two-lane and without fail, there's always one idiot like the one you described. What's worse is that you have houses on one side of this road and a bank of trees on the other, so if you swerve into the pee-patch to avoid an accident, you're going to end up totalling something - either's someone's house or your car. It's a no-win.
