  1. Yes, it's a frapp. I don't drink regular coffee, it's vile.
  2. If Eisenhower was alive today, and active in politics.....he'd be called a RINO. He would be considered too moderate for what the Republican Party has become. If that's not a sign it has moved further to the right in recent years, I don't know what is. Same goes for Theodore Roosevelt. Neither one of them would be considered "Republicans" by the party's current standards. And I consider them 2 of the 3 greatest Republican Presidents this country ever had. It's not a "popularly accepted narrative", it's fact. Members of the GOP that are not far right are finding themselves increasingly marginalized. Arlen Specter is just one of several Republican senators that have found themselves at odds with the party brass because they don't veer further to the right than a broken shopping cart. Rather than focusing on the root word of "conservative", they choose to continue harping on stupid culture war issues like abortion and gay marriage. If they ever decided to go back to being the fiscally conservative party, you know.....like in the 1950s.....maybe they could get somewhere. Specter is 100% correct when he said the party has moved further to the right in recent years, and he found himself increasingly at odds with them over his opinions and voting record. I was reading an article on FiveThirtyEight not too long ago about how a lot of states are showing increased registration switches; meaning people who were registered Republicans becoming either Democrats or aligning with a third party. Care to think about why that is? The more exclusive you become, the more you exclude people. Big tent, my ass.
  3. I take it you read none of the thread before you posted, otherwise you would have had this question answered.
  4. Al Franken won that election, Norm Coleman just needs to grow up and accept defeat. The longer he drags this on, the worse he looks. Once the Senate seats him, they'll have 60.
  5. I have that documentary, and they didn't say that Led Zeppelin were metal. They talked a bit about how their sound came to influence what heavy metal was, the same as Black Sabbath. I don't think anyone in their right mind would call Led Zeppelin a metal group.
  6. He aligns more with the Dems ideologically so in that respect it makes sense. The issue is though, he did this because he was going to get his ass handed to him by Pat Toomey in the GOP primary in 2010. Now he's in a much stronger position to keep his Senate seat. There's talk that Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe up in Maine could be poised to do the same, since the Republicans are all but pushing them out for being too moderate. Frankly, I hope they do. I hope the GOP goes so far-right, they destroy themselves and a new Republican Party forms. They need to stop leaning on the Fundies and become more fiscally conservative. The GOP right now is more big government than the Dems, IMO. Lose the culture war issues and get back to what makes the Republicans Republican. If they choose to stay on the course they're on, they are in deep, deep trouble.
  7. Vinyl or CD? Either way, I've got that one. You'll love it.
  8. Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show. Or The Mormon Crickets.
  9. I don't have a favorite thread per se, although there are several in the Other Bands section I enjoy posting in and reading. As for my favorite poster here? Me, of course! I don't play favorites with the people here I do like and consider friends, that's not right. Needless to say there are several people here who make posting a very enjoyable experience, and hopefully they know who they are.
  10. This all boils down to respect. If you can't be respectful, that's a problem....doesn't matter what it is you're doing.
  11. No, I just don't like it. It's not one specific thing.
  12. There is but one David Gilmour. No need for imitators. Just get someone to play the guitar. David doesn't have someone try and imitate Roger on his tours, he just gets a bassist who can sing.
  13. Jahfin already posted a story on this in the Ramble On section.
  14. I understand. I guess I was unfamiliar with English weather, although I do know it rains a lot there......like your version of Seattle.
  15. The Mormon Crickets could be a great name for a punk band.
  16. Yup. North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida in that order. We're only 5 hours from D.C., so that should give you an idea how north of Florida we are. We get bursts of heat rather than sustained weeks of it. Say it'll be 80 one day, 95 for the next 3 days and then back to 80. I didn't know that air conditioning was not standard in homes over there. I can't imagine being in house that didn't have central air. At least not today. In my parents' time air conditioning was unheard of. I hope you guys have tons of fans, though!
  17. I'm actually in North Carolina, and it doesn't get as hot here as it can in Florida. We're in the Mid-Atlantic region rather than the Deep South, so while it can get warm....it doesn't get sweltering. I'd say the hottest it got here last summer was maybe 90, 91. Not too bad. And it's not as humid, so it doesn't feel nearly as oppressive as it would if it was sticky. I don't like heat either, I'd rather it be cold....it's easier to warm up than it is to cool down, but when I lived in Georgia.....that was ridiculous. I remember one week where it was 97 in the shade every day and wouldn't you know our upstairs air conditioning unit picked that week to die. We all had to sleep downstairs at night because it was too warm upstairs.
  18. I guess you folks in England where it's rainy and cold probably don't want to see the weather in my neck of the woods right now. 81 °F / 27 °C Clear Humidity: 30% Dew Point: 47 °F / 8 °C Wind: 6 mph / 9 km/h / 2.6 m/s Variable Pressure: 30.40 in / 1030 hPa (Falling) Visibility: 10.0 miles / 16.1 kilometers UV: 11 out of 16 Clouds: Clear - (Above Ground Level) Elevation: 968 ft / 295 m
  19. Okay, this is my problem with Roger Waters. First let me say, he's an amazing talent. Really. Without him there would be no music since he wrote everything. But that in and of itself is the problem. After Dark Side of the Moon, no one else had writing credits. Music credits yes, writing credits no. He completely shut them out in that regard. Which is selfish and its own way, greedy. Toward the end, he began to think he was greater than the sum of his parts. In other words, "you are nothing without me, so shut up and follow along." Then he turned on the fans. I don't doubt that sometimes they could be annoying; I've been to rock concerts where I'd like to punch some of the idiots around me, too. But the fans are responsible for you being famous. We buy your records, we go see your shows....we tell other people to buy your records and see your shows. Without the fans, you're nobodies. So to turn on them and act like they're the source of your problems is asinine. I'm sure he's mellowed out over the years and he's admitted in interviews that he had a huge ego and it got out of control, but I still can't stand him.
  20. Damn me for showing up late, but no......ain't happenin'.
  21. Yeah, Pink Floyd didn't do Live 8 for money.
  22. Atom Heart Mother Suite (Live at the Fillmore West) - Pink Floyd
