  1. Too many to list here, that's for sure. However a brief smattering of them would be: Don't -talk with your mouth full -chew with your mouth open -put your elbows on the table -wear clothes that don't fit/shoes you can't walk in -discuss politics and/or religion at the dinner table -clink your fork on your teeth -be drunk in public; there is nothing more unattractive than a sloppy, loud drunk Do -wipe your feet when you come in from outside -open doors for the elderly, women with small children or people whose arms are loaded with bags/packages -eat soup with the spoon sideways rather than forward-facing to keep the soup from landing on your clothes -keep saltine and ginger ale in your pantry in case you get a stomach ache -always carry Advil/Tylenol in your purse (ladies only) along with other feminine products -write thank you cards to people who send you flowers or gifts
  2. My sister has horrid allergies, one of which is to cigarette smoke. Which is why my parents smoke outside or on the back deck, rather than in the house. When we moved and had to sell the house it took close to $1000 to get the cigarette smell out of the walls and carpets. Ridiculous.
  3. Spending the afternoon at the lake with my sister, having a picnic and talking girl talk.
  4. Hell. Yes. Not only is he gorgeous, he's whip-smart to boot. You try listening to Closer without wanting to climb into his pants.
  5. I bought David Gilmour's On An Island on vinyl a few weeks ago. I'll post some pictures of it later. 180-gram vinyl, thick jacket....my only complaint is that it's larger than standard 12-inch LPs, so my plastic sleeves don't fit it. I had to cut part of one and tape it to another so that I would have something wide enough.
  6. Shrimp chow mein from this great Chinese restaurant near the house. There's two great places, come to think of it. Cheap, filling and tasty.
  7. You're right, it's not an exclusion based on race or gender or sexual orientation or anything else of that nature. However I take issue with establishments that open that prohibit or exclude a particular group of people from patronizing it. Obviously if you're a non-smoker you're not going to want to go there anyway, but on its face it sets bad precedents. Which is something we should want to avoid. I answered this question in my answer to your first question.
  8. See, for me the issue of a "smokers-only" bar is immediately exclusionary. Non-smokers are by default, not allowed into that establishment. The people are outlawed, not their behavior. Smokers can patronize a "non-smoking" bar, they just can't smoke. Their behavior is outlawed, not the people. My $0.02.
  9. Considering the number of people who die each year in traffic accidents as a result of not wearing a seat belt, I find your attitude toward the issue very cavalier.
  10. There's a greater chance of monkeys flying out of my butt than Led Zeppelin in any incarnation getting back on the road.
  11. Spicy Italian sub from Subway. Yummy!
  12. I'm not writing anything down in which to either memorize or read off a paper. It's extemporaneous.
  13. Hell no. I've known this woman since I was 6 years old. I know everyone that is going to be invited....why would I be nervous? She deserves me at my best.
  14. I finally got my outfit to wear for my friend's wedding. Took long enough.
  15. It's the Maid/Matron of Honor who makes jokes at the bride's expense. I should know, my BFF is getting married in June and guess what my job is? The Best Man's speech can be equal parts sentimental and funny, depending on how close to the groom the guy is.
  16. In the beginning, they were into the typical stuff; pot, acid, and booze. Toward the end though....Rick was the one with the drug issues, not the rest of them. He had a well-documented cocaine problem that led to, in part, him being asked to leave the band. He just couldn't perform anymore, it had gotten that bad. The rest of them just liked to drink. David Gilmour had a cocaine habit in the late 80s-early 90s following his divorce from his first wife, but he quit that soon after meeting his current wife....probably sometime in 1992.
  17. I'll probably regret asking this, but why? To me, it's cut and dry....not everyone thinks that way, I understand that. If I run a business and the local government comes to me and says "We have a non-smoking ordinance for all _____ establishments. We ask that you comply within 30 days or lose your liquor license." If my livelihood depends on that business remaining open, why would I jeopardize that? Making money, keeping my bills paid and a roof over my head is more important than whether I personally think it's fair or not. I don't necessarily like having to drive the speed limit, especially when I'm in a hurry or there's no one on the road, but the "fairness" of the ordinance doesn't matter - I have to follow it. From the building proper or from the premises? If you have a special enclosure on the property for smokers that is not the actual establishment, but is a part of the establishment, those consumers can still patronize your bar and you can still remain in compliance with the law. Look at restaurants that have outdoor patios. Those are smoking areas because you're outdoors. It's not inside the physical premises, but it's still on the plot of land. You have non-smoking indoors and smoking outdoors. Public health would be my guess. Smoking is hazardous to the public health. Not just to the smoker but to those around the smoker. This to me would be no different than sanitation ordinances; it's to the benefit of both owner and consumer that some degree of cleanliness is expected. Some restaurants don't allow small children, some only allow them up to a certain time of the day. Babies aren't a public health hazard, unless the mother is changing a poopy diaper on your table.
  18. This is real simple; either enforce the non-smoking ban or lose your liquor license. What is more important to these business owners? Losing all their business because they can't serve alcohol anymore (which is the point of a bar/pub/nightclub) or having to adapt their business because of non-smoking ordinances? The way I see it, one allows you to continue to make money the other doesn't. And in good ole capitalist USA, making money is the name of the game. Smokers can still go to these establishments, they just can't smoke. Or they can go to the special area designated by the owners to smoke. So no one is telling them they physically must stop smoking, they are being told they must smoke in a different location on the premises than before. They can still drink, order bar food and have a good time. And the non-smokers who patronize the establishment can have a good time as well. I live with 2 smokers who have no problem with this ordinance. They don't like smelling smoke when they eat either. When they smoke they go outside, or they have a smoke before we leave the house.

  20. My sister loves Rascal Flatts. She's seen them in concert about 5 or 6 times and as a member of their fan club, she gets first dibs on seating when they come here....she's always been in the front....about 4 rows from the stage. I don't care for country whatever kind of country they call themselves, but they have a few songs I like. Now Carrie Underwood? I've seen her about 4 times. Love her.
  21. Edit: As reference, here are the signs they were talking about: You be the judge; I happen to think this one makes the most sense.
