  1. I always thought it was 'We are eagles of wonder'. I guess you learn something new everyday. I think it's a song of quiet reflection for things that have past. Maybe Robert wasn't singing about anyone in particular, but the nature of relationships and how we reflect back on how things used to be and cherish the memories. Danny, sorry, I always hear 'Then as it was, then again it will be'. Maybe you should get your ears tested for a hearing aid! Anyway, it's a beautiful song, and one of the few Zeppelin tunes that my partner actually likes and we can enjoy listening to together.
  2. My mum did some designing for Mary Quant in the late '60s. I wish my mum had kept some of her clothes then I could have inherited them!:) You should have a look at Laura Ashley.com. Their clothes are inspired by vintage fabrics and designs, are extremely well made and they have regular sales with big discounts. I have quite a few of their items in my wardrobe!

  3. What do you make of it? I've watched documentaries which suggest that the moon landing was fake, but I'm not convinced.
  4. 'The mighty arms of Atlas hold the heavens from the earth', Achilles Last Stand. When I hear that line I imagine Robert stood at the top of the Atlas mountains being inspired. 'And our time is flyin', see the candle burnin' low. Is the new world rising, from the shambles of the old?', The Rover
  5. Sorry, didn't have room to finish my comment below! I was going to say I amend some of the vintage clothes I buy with my sewing machine, or update them by changing the buttons or adding lace. My mum used to be a fashion designer so I guess I inheritied it from her!:)

  6. Thank you for the links you posted on my profile page. Yes, you get get addicted to buying clothes, but I try to restrict myself to a monthly budget, but then I see something that's so lovely and unique that I just have to have it!:) There are lots of vintage clothes shops here in the UK and even found some lovely items in charity shops. If they don't fit properly I just get my sewi...

  7. Yes, vintage is very in vogue now in terms of fashion which is good news for me because I don't do jeans or trousers! I love the 1940s style tea dresse, or any clothes that have a vintage look to them. Looking through my postcards of the actresses from the '20s and '30s, the clothes they wore were so stylish, and they were natuarlly beautiful unlike a lot of actresses today.

  8. Life by Keith Richards. It's very insightful and well written. Highly recommend.
  9. Thanks for the comments on my profile. Yes, we are the same age! I know it's a bit late now, but happy birthday!

I do like the picture on your profile, she's very pretty. I collect postcards of actresses from that era, they were all very glamorous back then and classy!

  10. Thanks for your comment on my profile. I must say that I'm loving your new backgroud paper, it looks like Victorian flocked wallper, very sophisticated. I also love your new picture on your profile. Is that woman from the '20s or '30s? Do you know who she is? I love anything vintage!:)

  11. Just dropping by to say hello Kiwi. I hope you've had a good day:)

  12. I've seen Stairway to Heaven being played in the background on that programme as well, someone on the production team must really like Zeppelin! Not that I sit around watching daytime TV. It was on a big TV in the Students Union at the university where I work. I remember the song catching my attention on my way to the Post Office and it put smile on my face to hear it. I've noticed that the BBC uses lots of Zep tunes in the advertisements for its programmes. Recently they used to Misty Mountain Hop for Lark Rise to Candleford and Battle of Evermore for a history programme about the Normans.
  13. That's such a groovy background! : )

  14. You're welcome aeonblue : ) I look forward to chatting with you on the forum.

  15. For those of you in the UK, there will be an exclusive edition of the Culture Show with Keith Richards on BBC2 on Thursday night at 7.00pm.
  16. Welcome to the forum Emily. I hope you have a good time here and meet lots of new friends.:)

  17. Wow, that is amazing. It takes finger-painting to a whole new level! Thanks for posting it Deborah.
  18. You're very welcome Kiwi. I really enjoyed listening to it again. Yes, Paul McCartney wrote it, it's on his 'greatest hits' CD I have. He got quite a bit of stick at the time and still does for writing such a 'silly' song, but, like you say, I just have even more respect for him for doing something like that for kids (and adults ). As you say, 'Side by side, hand in hand, we all stand togther' is such a lovely sentiment. I always thought we should have this song as our national anthem! In fact, I think I should write to the Queen and Prime Minister and suggest it!
  19. I thought I could do with some light relief so I looked this one up on You Tube. I used to have this on a record as a child (in fact I think my mum still has it somewhere!). I also loved Rupert Bear (and still do!). And Paul McCartney of course!
  20. It's my next door neighbour's birthday today, she's in her 60s. I made her a birthday card and gave her some flowers. She was really thrilled with them. It made me happy to see her so happy.
  21. What an amazing photo. I love astronomy. My mum has a telescope, and I vividly remember when Halley's Comet was visible on earth in 1986 all my friends coming round to my house to view it. Please keep posting the photos from your telescope.
  22. Yes it's great news that all those miners were safely rescued, isn't it Kiwi? I just hope the mine owner does the right thing now and permanently closes that mine since it's so unsafe. I've also been getting 'down and dirty' this morning - cleaning the house I mean! My old vacuum cleaner broke down earlier in the week, so I've been taking my new one for a spin around the house today. It's amazing the amount of dust in the carpet that it managed to suck up!
  23. Well the Horizon documentary was trying to answer the question 'what is nothing?' The Big Bang it was argued could be nothing more than a big sham! The scientists in the programme were suggesting that the Big Bang wasn't the start of everything but the end of something else which had been going on forever. Maybe Stephen Hawking has got it wrong! Anyway it was all very fascinating, but I'm not sure I'll ever get my head around the physics behind it all!
  24. I watch QI on the BBC here, it's very entertaining, and as you say, you always learn something new! Last night on BBC2 I watched Horizon: What was Before the Big Bang? My head is still spinning from it, but very interesting.
  25. The Rolling Stones, Ladies and Gentlemen , DVD, released today for the first time. It's ment to be one of their best lives performances, we'll see...
